I know i'm not doing it right. I dont know how to. I downloaded the file. It went to my download folder unzipped as a folder nameed contents. Two more folders are in there called MacOS & Resources. Were do I go from here?

If you download this on Mac OS X, then you should see the application right after you unzip the package. You then just drop the codec onto the app icon (which is a turtle, not a frog :D ). Just read the first post again.

Yup. In OSX you'll see a green turtle head (Taruga's :D). That's the patcher. don't need to decompress anything.

I'm not getting any turtle head except for an turtle icon file inside the "resources" folder. I'm running 10.5.2 if that makes any difference.

I'm downloading it from here

Thanks for the help so far.

I don't know what the hell that is. But It's not Taruga's functioning patcher (corrupted file). Get it from here: http://osxupdate.blogspot.com/

E-mailed the request. You should really delete Post #3921 if that installer is corrupt.

EDIT: Got my hands on 2.0 and 1.6. Can't find a single working dump. Trying to match the infamous 92xx C-Major HD. Can't find anything. Anyone with a Dell Dimension 5150 with the 92xx C-Major HD audio controller who got the sound to work post me a line.

EDIT2: Finally got it working last night via 5150 92xx Audio Fix (Works out of the black subwoofer port.)

EDIT3: Wiped my system last night to install a new versoin of OS X. Unfortunately it didn't work so I reverted back to the Kalyway one. Then for some reason the above fix no longer worked. I had to download the latest Patcher via http://osxupdate.blogspot.com/ then patch it with the codec_Sigma9220.txt dump from http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/ (Works out of the green normal port.)

What about version 1.6? I understand that's necessary for 10.5.5 and above. Can't find it anywhere and Taruga's site is still down.

Version 1.20 is above 1.16 - which is its correct designation.

you can find more patchers and drivers here: http://osxupdate.blogspot.com/ - providing you know what to ask for and are not a complete n00b ^_^

Well I thought I actually WAS looking for 1.6, seeing several references to it, with some positive affirmation it works with 10.5.5. Perhaps they were all typos and they meant 1.16. If 1.6 does exist, I can't find it. All I know is the AppleHDA.kext created by all versions don't work on 10.5.5 for my STAC 9205, where I used a clean codec dump created on the actual laptop under Knoppix. So I guess I have to resort to manual patching using Taruga's and the other guides here.

Thanks for the email and versions you sent btw, even if you did slap me a bit calling me a n00b. :D

Believe me, 1.6 is a typo. The last version of the patcher - not counting the V2.0 alfas - was the 1.20.

And it wasn't my intention to offend you. I am very sorry if I did. You just won't believe the questions some people ask when they email me asking for patchers and drivers. If they read the first page of this thread they wouldn't say such things :)

But, it's party time! Happy new year everybody! And especialy the big guy: Taruga.

I've been trying to figure out which model sound card I have based on the system pref output for audio. Its supposed to be a realtek high def audio but this is the output:

Intel High Definition Audio:

Device ID: 0x104D820B

Audio ID: 12

thx any help would be grateful!

I have an idea as to why I could not restore a proper codec dump in linux before:

Linux comes with a standard audio driver for my laptop which works as its supposed to but then Realtek offers linux users a driver that you have to compile. I compiled this driver successfully in the past and it worked fine (i noticed no real difference in performance really) but I wonder if a codec dump would be different now?

Realtek HDA (ALC883)

Here are the physical audio things I have on my laptop (that I know about)

Built-In Speakers, Built in Mic, Headphones Port, Mic Port, (some akward symbol thing that looks like this sorta) ((*->)

edit: Here is how to do a proper dump in linux

in linux, open a terminal and type the following

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* > ~/Desktop/SoundcardPatch.txt

Then look on the desktop for a file called SoundcardPatch.txt ..then transfer that to Mac OS X and drop it in the patcher

note that this was made on a system with one soundcard.. if you have multiple cards you may have to do something else or name the specific one.
