you have to enable sata native on bios and plug it to first yellow port. All this under 10.4.8 with ICH8 installed.

Ok, thank, I'll give this a try...

Gigabyte Ds3/4 pack update!

Especially designed to work on Semthex's "Nebukadnezar" 10.4.8 kernel.

version 1.2:

Added New Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 driver as the old Yukon network driver doesnt work on new Semthex's "Nebukadnezar" 10.4.8 kernel.

Added Ps/2 port fix for 10.4.8

gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg

Thanks Pion - I managed to download it this time. Muchos gracias! :(

Well, when I have SATA-Native 0-3 Enabled in my BIOS, it causes OSx86 to reset system preferences, such as my Command key (which I set to Ctrl) switches back to the Windows key.

Also, when booting, I get a 'diskarb failed to load' error. This makes booting 30 seconds longer...

All this goes away once I plug my HDD into the Purple SATA ports, and disable SATA Native.

I did an XBench test with my HDD plugged into ICH8 and JMB363 SATA ports, and the results varied by one point (161.31 and 162.24).

No performance increase here...

will the ich8 and jmicron patches work for a different mobo? i have a msi p965 neo-f, and i am wondering if i can patch a 10.4.8 disk to use the sata controllers and the jmicron ide.

ICH8 works on anything with a 965 chipset. the Jmicron fix depends on if your board has the chipset.

All my drives are hooked to the yellow ICH8 ports. I personally saw a few extra points on my xbench score (can't recall exactly what atm).

I also get the Diskarb errors, there's something in the AppleSMBios.kext and IOATAFamily.kext causing it.

I thought I saw someone said you have to account for using DDR 1 or 2. Which means with our systems I think we should take our FSB setting (mines at 380) and double it. Thought I'm not really sure.

Well, I don't think a few points (unless it's around 10+) should suggest a performance increase. But anyway...

Just so you know, if you get annoyed with the DiskArb errors (they certainly annoy me - an extra 30 seconds to boot!) just plug it into the JMB363 ports, and turn off SATA Native. :)

I´m installed 10.4.6 by Jas in my pc (E6300 + DS3) with a IDE/USB adapter.

Everything worked great - exception for my wirelless keyboard. But

that´s not the problem.

After using the PC for 2 hours, I booted the system. Now I´m having the "Still waiting for root device" message!

What should I do?

Thank you!

Fredperes, are you saying it just stopped working? Surely you must have done something to it. Have you installed Pion's DS3 package?

SABR, I did not install this package; I was trying to make my 1600xt work well. So, I tried a method posted here in the forum (some russian guy, I think). I made some modifications in ATI´s drivers and thats it. Now I´m still waiting for root device...

Well, whatever you did, it made it do that...

You will have to reinstall OS X, or, find out which files you need to delete/backup in order to recover your installation.

I would recommend you try the Neopheus installers: www.installers.dl.am

SABR.

the P965 Neo-F has the JMicron JMB361 Chipset. Is it the same as the pkg that has been posted in this thread?

I would take this info with a grain of salt but...

I think the jbm361 is quite different. The pkg Pion posted is setup for the 363 and won't work, though there is a chance if you change the .plist files that normally we would have to.

I took the liberty of digging up some of the info.

With pions package installed do a open up in nano or pico or whatever you like to use for editing "AppleVIAATA.kext/contents/info.plist"
then search for "0x2363197B" (no quotes)
change it to "0x2361197B" (no quotes)
save it.

Then edit "AppleAHCIPort.kext/Contents/Info.plist" the same way you did previously
then search for "0x2363197B" (no quotes)
change it to "0x2361197B" (no quotes)
save it.

run "diskutil repairpermissions /" (no quotes)
and reboot.

Essentially what you're doing is taking anything we with DS3's put as "0x2363197b" and making it "0x2361197B"

If it works, let us know.

Added for search reasons: It also seems those with JMB360, JMB361, JMB363, JMB365, JMB366 can do the same. Only needing to change the underlined portions above to the number matching their model chipset.

Well, whatever you did, it made it do that...

Reinstall complete; status: everthing working!

Sound ok!

Saphire 1600xt ok!

One question: OSX dont recognise my wireless keyboard; every time I boot I need to reconect tha keyboard`s cable. This happens only with me?

Last one: wich method is the best to fix boot/reboot issues?

Thanks!!!

I would recommend you update to JaS's 10.4.8. He releases new kernels every now and then, and the latest has fixed the reboot/shutdown problems.

Can`t get my DVD burner functional: I`ve got a LG DVD-RW, connected as IDE, but it don`t work.

Do I have to edit the editet /System/Library/Extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext/contents/info.plist ??

If I do have, how to do it? Reading the tutorial, it seems I have to insert vendor and device ID. Where do I find it?

Thanks!

I tried it and it is even slower. What could possibly be missing?

Here is what I get with the HD connected to the first ICH8 (orange) port:

Disk only Results 36.37

ok, now here is something really interesting: If I use -v platform=X86PC fsb=680 (though my fsb is really set to 340), I get these results: (why? :hysterical: and are they really true?)

I get the same, around 36 with fsb=266 and over 150 with fsb=532. But i doubt these are the true numbers. Also, my Hackintosh acts strangely with fsb=532, some things get faster, other slower. For example, movies will play about 20% faster, no idea why.

I get the diskarb error too and I also question myself about any advantage of using the ich8 at this point for the HDD.

For your FSb, take your Bus Speed (as reported in the system profiler and divide it by 4 or take you memory speed and divide by 2)

those are two different numbers and the results on Xbench also will be greater with the higher fsb of the two. It just fascinates me the fact that the results change so drastically and even at stock setting using the -v platform affects the end results. I am seeing for sure that the results for the Xbench can be altered what shows me that the program is not that accurate on non apple machines. Is there a way to make the -v platform permanent or do we have to enter it every time we start the system?

Thanks!

It is pretty curious, don't you think? Unfortunately I don't understand the system enough to know why and to know what would be the ideal set up.

You need to edit the Boot.plist:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...he_boot_options

The above link tells you how to do it. This is the part you need to enter into the Boot.plist to put in switches (-v, -x, -s, etc):

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-v</string>

Hope this helps :thumbsup_anim:

So, the ONLY thing not working is Audio Input. I've been searching around, I've tried editing and adding AppleHDA.kext into the extensions folder - doesn't seem to help...

What do we need to do in order ot get ALC883 working? I could really do with a Audio Input...

Those who are running 10.4.8, how did you install?

I am running 10.4.7 and interested in running 10.4.8.

System Specs:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

WD HD (could that be problem?)

I cannot get the Jas 10.4.8 DVD to boot. I get a "waiting for root device error."

People with 10.4.8: Did you use the DVD or upgrade? Could you detail the process?

I ran the DVD and performed a full install. However, the upgrade should work too. You need to have the HDD on the ICH8 (yellow) SATA Ports, have SATA Native 0-3 disabled, and have Onboard SATA/IDE set to IDE.

Then boot off the disc. It should work. If not, I don't know what the problem could be. You will have to use a IDE => SATA converter for the DVD drive though, since you want to boot off the DVD, it won't have the edited kext files for ICH8 compatibility.

Download JAS DVD 10.4.8 and install from a USB dvd-rom.

If you plan to use OSX get a second HD only for OSX.

Once you're done with the install get pion's package (2 or 3 pages back), this will have everything up and working. Then you just need to install Titan kext for QE/CI and download the latest kernel from irc.
