fredperes
I was working and just clicked 'update software'. I did it several times, so, I didnt think I would have problems. After update, I clicked 'reboot'. Now, when I try to boot the system, it crashes. It starts to load Darwin and...reboots. After 02 hours I got Jas 10.4.8 installation disc working. I tried to repair permissions, repair disk, but nothing worked. So I tried to update the system, installing it again. But now, when I boot the system, appers a message: You have to restart your machine, bla, bla, bla. I'm tryng to reinstall everything again, but, dont know why, I just stop in 'still waiting for root device'. errandwolfe
Um yeah...you can't use software update to install an OS upgrade on a Hackintosh. Normally I would say restore your kext files from your backup location and copy the kernel back from the 10.4.8 DVD, but I am going to guess if you used software update you didn't back anything up first. Sounds like it is time for you to reinstall. You may want to check this Q&A on updating to 10.4.9. errandwolfe
Fredperes, If you are running 10.4.8 make sure you have the latest kernel. If you do, you should have no reason to manually set your FSB. This has been automatic for sometime now. It is only with the bleeding edge 10.4.9 kernel that you have to set your FSB. I now something is not right: The clock is kind of crazy (running `too fast`) and, when I try to watch a dvd video, audio and video are strange. malossec
I guys. 1st, many thanks to those who did hard work on this mobo. I for myself have chosen a GA-965P-DS4. The price is close to the DS3, firewire integrated, seemed to be a good choice. DVD drive is SATA, attached to orange port (native disabled in bios) HDD (Baracuda 160GB) attached to purple sata port (onboard sata enabled, AHCI mode) I'm using JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 PPF1 Defiant Diskutil Patch880 ICH7/8. When trying to install, the dvd will boot fine, load basic stuff, create 3 ramdisks, starts crashreporter, display message about airport not being installed/available. Then, after a minute or two, it hangs (no more dvd or hdd activity). I can't figure out why except that I'm trying to install whith a legacy PCI graphic card (S3, 2MB yes, yes : 2MB), cause I'm waiting for my MSI x1600Pro. Any help would be wellcomed. Well I had this problem and it turns out I had AHCI selected in the BIOS, changed this to IDE on the JMicron ports and bam, works every time now. I guys.1st, many thanks to those who did hard work on this mobo. I for myself have chosen a GA-965P-DS4. The price is close to the DS3, firewire integrated, seemed to be a good choice. Attach your DVD drive to Purple Port 2 or 3 in think ( could be 0 or 1 sorry!!) and set to IDE in the BIOS. Connect your HDD to one of the Orange ports and again choose native IDE in the BIOS. There is no point to using AHCI since the Baracuda is not NCQ anyway...... This should solve your issues. did anyone figure out how to boot from a dvd drive on the jmicron ide? Just worked for me when I set the JMicron to IDE in the BIOS. Zulu.Walker
Just a quick question, has anybody gotten all four purple Intel ICH8 AHCI ports working? Ports-00/-01 can be "seen" by OS X, the other two (Ports-04/05) cannot. I've tried the ICH7-M method and there are still two ports, or is there any other way to "add" support for these two ports? They're just wasting away waiting for new drives. Anyone with any info on this, please do tell Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26858-gigabyte-ga-965p-ds3-thread/page/21/#findComment-345377 Share on other sites
alvin777
Orange ports Purple ports Hi. I'm using Jas 10.4.8 Intel/AMD beta 2 with hardisk (non-3Gb/s interface, 300 MB only) in orange SATA ports working but slow (Legacy mode). I think why the GA-965P-DS3 (mine is revision 3.3) orange/yellow ports won't get recognized if you switch the mode from Legacy to Native is because if you don't have a drive with a 3Gb/s interface (usually the server type hardisks), it won't boot since Native would mean its looking for a 3Gb/s hardisk. If you switch it to Legacy, it boots but it is slow because its uses legacy settings. The purple ports work better because it has an IDE mode (as opposed to the orange ports which only has Legacy and Native) which might mean its a native setting for both non 3GB/s hardisks and 3GB/s ones. OpenAL, 5.1 surround sound, ALC888 audio chip and the GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 3.3) using Jas 10.4.8 Beta The hackintosh ALC888 driver for this on this motherboard's audio chip, the ALC888 works, but only in Stereo (green Line Out port). It can do 5.1 surround but only in the Audio MIDI Setup's Configure device for testing surround speakers. It reverts back to stereo. Has anyone been able to make this hackintosh ALC888 driver work with OpenAL so that all those using this Gigabyte board can finally have 5.1 or greater surround sound for games like Quake 4. Thanks. Keyboard Mapping BTC 6300 slim keyboard (full size keyboard using laptops keys called switch-key design) I'm making the keyboard work on the Jas 10.4.8 Intel/AMD Beta 2 install using a PS/2 to USB adapter. Where is the program to map the keyboard keys? I'd like to have the End working like when you need to go to the end of what you're typing fast, not just for scrolling down. The Windows key (Option on a Mac keyboard) is mapped as the. It would be easier to undo-cute-copy-paste if the Alt keyboard is mapped as the Apple/Command key (Clover key) and the Windows key as the Option. Please post thread (could be from other sites) or your workarounds. E4300 Digital Thermal Sensor and Temperature The only program that seems to detect the CPU's sensor is the CoreDue Temp program. This detects only one core and may be giving a false reading because it's reading the temperature as a CoreDuo not a Core 2 (I think its adding 10 Celsius). It's nice I found a program that can detect the CPU's sensors but it'd be great to have the use other OS X temperature sensors softwares that support Core 2 Duo E4300 itself as well as detect this mobo's fans speeds. Does anyone know of a hack for the hackintosh (again mine's Jas 10.4.8 Intel/AMD Beta 2) for it to detect 965P-DS3's sensors as if it was had Mac Pro or an iMac or a mini (since it has Core 2 Duo too) sensors and fans? Does anyone know the manufacturer and model of Apple's fans and sensors- maybe their IDs could be used in the AppleHWSensor.kext if this extension is where Apple's sensors are identified. malossec
Issues I met regarding orange/purple ports : In legacy mode, orange port allows sata DVD to boot, HD to be seen during install. I had to install ICH8 patch after main install (patched jas 10.4.8 DVD for ICH7/8 would see 128GB drive) HD wouldn't boot in legacy mode (i had to boot dvd & bless drive at each restart) So I put orange sata back in native mode, it fixed the HD reboot problem but prevented DVD from booting. I chose to change DVD drive to purple port in IDE mode & both DVD & CD are now booting well except that it's slow at finding system folder on HD. BTW, I previously posted here about install trouble. I had the good guess : do not even try to install with PCI graphic card. Regarding audio, I'm happy with stereo + mic/line. I seem to be able to configure the other channels (having installed ALC888), but VLC & other player dont seem to use the "composited" device. About CPU temperature, I'm using "Tempearture Monitor" which I found here . I have exactly the same reading problem as alvin777 (+10°C). And to finish, a direct question to Zulu.Walker : I see you've been overclocking up to 3 GHz. Could you tell us what are your voltage settings ? Do you thing I could go a little further w/o changing my current DDR2 (Kingston PC 5300 2x512MB) [EDIT] Keyboard mapping is of course ok (original Apple keyboard) except for eject button which doesn't work any more. Any idea regarding that issue (BTW, volume control key are working perfectly well) [/EDIT] All in all, I'm pretty happy with my new hackintosh. Many thanx to all contributers. punkrockml13
does anyone know the status of Western Digital SATA drives on this motherboard? I know theyve had some problems in the past, but do they still hold true? Which would be preferable to be using, a Western Digital SATA or a Seagate SATA, as far as operability and working hardware go. I own IDE drives of each, but I'd like to know what works best with this board and OS X. Thank You! I'm running my E6300 at 1.3375V, RAM at 2V, +0.1V to FSB and (G)MCH. Your PC-5300 DDR2-RAM might be able to run at faster speeds but I'm not so sure how high, and there won't be much headroom for clocking it higher (unless you like running your RAM with "slow"/relaxed timings). I just set my JMicron and ICH8 SATA controllers to IDE/legacy mode and everything's working. Most likely it'll stay that way until Intel fixes its AHCI implementation on my mobo. Regarding the Eject key, it should work if your DVD drive is directly connected through IDE/SATA, it won't work if it's connected some other way (in my case, if I connect my DVD drive using an external USB controller, it won't eject). Hardware Monitor posts my temperatures with an additional +35°C, but I've learned how to live with that. OS X definitely rocks, even without the extensive game support. punkrockml13
Can someone please tell me what to set my bios settings to as far as options concerning hard drives? Anyone else out there running this kind of a set up on a p965-ds3 board? I just can't find a definitive answer anywhere on this board. Please Help. Thanks. alvin777
At Punkrockml13. After shutting down the PC, the drive you plan to boot OS X from should be in the purple SATA II ports. I have not set it up to AHCI in the BIOS, just IDE. You could also use the orange SATA II ports with its BIOS setting set to Legacy but the downside is, if your drive is faster than 1.5 Mb/s it will be slower. To be sure, just use the purple ports. Other SATA drives connected to the orange ports could be seen even even if its BIOS setting is set at IDE, if it's not going to be the boot drive. tuk
NOTE: DO NOT BUY HW-629 SATA to PATA/IDE converters - they will not work! You need HW-628's, like this: However, just to be sure, I will be able to confirm compatibility on the 9th of September. Hi SABR, i got the same convertor as urs. Can I check with u. do u plug in the 4 pin molex to the hard disk too ? so total are 3 plug (sata and the power to the convertor, 1 power to the hard disk). I have tried with and without, but the system doesnt detect the drive. What i did was, 80gig WD IDE hard disk, plug the convertor, connect to the 1st top purple sata port. DVD rom also use the convertor, plug to the 1st orange port. doesnt seems to work I did follow the instruction (change of bios) in the first page Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26858-gigabyte-ga-965p-ds3-thread/page/21/#findComment-361758 Share on other sites
