10.6.5 update available in Software Update

After update whenever I play any games, I see a red box flickering on center .... did anybody try to play games and see if they are ok?

I used Kakewalk to install 10.6 on my Gigabyte MB with a Intel Quad Core and an Nvidia 8800gt. I've upgraded all the way to 10.6.5 without any problems. I have not added any kexts myself, only what Kakewalk installed so I don't have a sleep capability, but that is a minor issue. Everything works perfectly. After just a short time in testing my system seems faster after the 10.6.5 update. As usual I downloaded the updater and applied it manually then re-booted.

Try installing the modded IOUSBFamily.kext available at:

You may also need an older IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext (I just used a backed up driver).

It works, I replaced the two files with the ones from the 10.6.4 Combo Update. (opened with pacifist)

Has anyone noticed Higher temps since applying the 10.6.5 update?

Actually, I could say the opposite. It seems slightly better to me in terms of power management. Further testing is needed of course.

But, this update drops my OpenGL score again. I guess when we reach 10.6.8, I will not be able to run a screensaver

 

I enabled graphic power management and that's why there is decrease in Open GL score. I could live with that.

Hopefully their will be a legancy Intel / AMD kernel patch, just like 10.6.3 and 10.6.4. So I wait to upgrade to 10.6.5

Mostly works on P6X58D-E using the combo update. Audio, as usual, is affected. My USB speakers still work so it looks like my USB is OK too. About this mac shows 10.6.5. I do not notice any performance increase.

Updated but don't have video anymore. I had the same problem after updating from 10.6.3 to .4 . I fixed that by injecting a MacPro880GT.rom in the bootloader but now after updating to 10.6.5 I have this blank screen problem again! But this time I don't know how to fix it so far. I hope someone has an idea.

I use a display connected via DVI to my 8800GT. The display is able to to do HDCP (via HDMI or DVI).

 

Any1 else have this problem? I updated via ComboUpdate and another try simply by SU -> both give me a blank screen :-(

I updated with software update, everything went fine, rebooted with -v -f -x, just in case, i lost my audio, but that happens everytime i update, so no biggie.

need some help , I updated and lost my USB keyboard and mouse , so I can not even log in to OX , does any body knows how I can put the kext back for the USB thru the terminal command ? I tried booting up with boot cd , but same problem , keyboard and mouse not recognized because no USB kext is loaded .

Any help would be appreciated

well the thing is, we can't replace the kext because we can't log in to replace it to begin with. maybe do it before restart? i'm not sure how that works though so... any suggestions?

Yep same problem here. I booted using -s hoping I could remove AppleHpet.kext, cuz I think thats the real problem, but the iousbfam***.kext fails to load and I can't even type anything from there. ARGHHHHH!!!!

put two kexts and pfix file on root of usb flash key name it like USB

and assume that your mac partion is mac

 

you are now on terminal

 

type first

mount -uw /

 

rm -rf /volumes/mac/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext

 

rm -rf /volumes/mac/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext

 

cp -rf /volumes/usb/IOUSBFamily.kext /volumes/mac/System/Library/Extensions

 

cp -rf /volumes/usb/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext /volumes/mac/System/Library/Extensions

 

/volumes/usb/pfix

 

and then choose mac partion to start pemission fix
