ok.. i gave XBMC Live a try today...

well seems to play 1080p nearly perfect. some realy rare short distortions. perhaps just a little configuration thing.

as long as nobody finds a soulution for gpudecoding i think i will stick to XBMC.

Perhaps in the future with plex :(

What size 1080p files are you playing? I can play 10GB 1080p files fine in Plex. Still wish there would be a Plex Live, but that could be impossible since OSX isn't open source.

1080p @16mb works perfectly in my mini 311c with xbmc.

that's why I wanted to go to media center on osx, migrate from linux to osx, on the zotac.. but I have no luck with the installation... :(

and if xbmc not work, we must understand why, it must work!

can someone write a detailed guide for installation? about the 311c are "spoiled" by mowglibook, LeMaurien19 and friends. But despite years of playing with OSX, I did not understand what is causing my problem unfortunately.

OK, I've tried all methods presented in this thread with no luck with boot Snow Leopard. Now I'm trying with iAtkos S3 (previously I used retail 10.6.3, many BootCDs, BootUSBs and installing from other installation of MacOS) but I'm still failing... Anyone have any suggestions about cutom options in iAtkos S3 for IONITX A-E? My BIOS settings are taken from Polvorito.

polvorito & eugene k2 thanks for providing the kexts and dsdt.

Everything works on my asus eb1501.

Most 1080p mkv's work in plex. Unfortunately not in 24p. But maybe that is an plex issue i will test later on with xbmc if they work perfect there.

Unfortunately shutdown and sleep doesn't work (light stays on and the fan keeps spinning) because of usb 2.0. I don't have the feature to enable usb 1.1 in my bios. So i hope there will be a fix for it soon. Because i tried al the chameleon flags for usb.

For the rest it is perfect. My hackintosh is faster then i hoped and with remote buddy and plex installed it is a perfect htpc.

OK, my Snow Leopard 10.6.4 is installed on ION and boots correctly. VGA is detected correctly (AzeleBLN BootLoader). Only disadvantage is no sound (AppleHDA 10.6.2 - maybe VoodooHDA solve the problem) and USB devices aren't detected. Any ideas?

USB works if you switch it from High Speed to full Speed in bios. IMHO they work then still in Highspeed, if I copy from a SD card to disk I get 10MByte/s and more. This USB High Speed, isn't it?

sound sometimes for me also does not work. I usually use kext utitlity then to make sure all permissions are good, and after next boot it works (no VoodooHDA).

Anybody eSATA hotplug working?

I am not sure, but I believe when I was in 10.6.0 I could use the eSATA hot pluggable. Now I always have to reboot if I connect a HD to eSATA. not as itis supposed to be.

Any hints welcome...

Thanks

Joey

Thanks to all you guys! That's my first Hackingtosh that nearly works perfect so far and I quite like that little board :).

At the moment I am still using the OSX version 10.6.2 (with the extra files from the first post) and I have a view questions.

For me it's not possible to get a 5.1 Signal from the digital out. I tried it playing a 720p movie on Plex. The Source is definitely 5.1. because of the fact that it is working with my macbook's digital out. But I have seriously no idea whats the matter when I use the Zotac's.

Is there a possibility to get the 5.1. working via the digital out jack?

At the moment I am quiet happy with the OSX, but actually I was thinking of using the OSX Server.

I installed it on a separate partition, with the already mentioned installation instruction of this thread.

Mount your Server Install Disk. Now to install the server packages. Mount your Server Install DVD and then Cmd+Shift+G in Finder. Type /Volumes/Mac OS X Server Install Disc/System/Installation/Packages to navigate to the individual packages. Install in this order onto your intended partition.

Install 5 packages, this time, in this order:

a) OSInstall.mpkg

b.) ServerEssentials.pkg

c) ServerAdminTools.pkg

d) ServerSetup.pkg

e) QuicktimeStreamingServer.pkg (if you need it)

Make sure you have a working internet connection via ethernet before proceeding to install. On reboot via usb stick, set your server up as per normal.

Afterwards I installed:

- OSX Server Combo update to 10.6.2

- Chameleon 2 RC3

- mach kernel for 10.6.2

and copied the extra folder

The problem that I am facing right now is that my system is hanging at the grey apple screen (without the loading symbol).

Did I do anything wrong?

Does anybody know if there is a better way to install OSX Server on the Zotac IONITX?

Thanks

Keks :)

What is the status of this guys?

I have a IONITX F board that is currently running Ubuntu, but it needs a reinstall and I would really like OSX.

Is it usable to play 720p movies in Plex without any lagging? Does it use the GPU for playback?

Best Regards

Kenneth

Hi Guys,

I just found something interesting.

http://elan.plexapp.com/2010/04/27/hardwar...coding-on-plex/

They say that hardware acceleration has been added in 10.6.4 for IONs.

At the moment I'm still running the 10.6.2 so an update may improve the performance for 1080p movies.

I'll be back after the break!

Maybe with some (good) News :)

As promised I'm back with some news.

After installing the 10.6.4 Update I compared two 1080p movies that were jiggling @ 10.6.2.

The Update seriously did the trick!

Now with the 10.6.4 Update and activated Hardware Encoding in Plex everything works much better! :)

No jiggling, smooth playback!

Current System:

OSX Server 10.6.4

Zotac IONITX A-E (@ 2.1Ghz)

4GB Ram

----

Now I'm only facing one problem since I installed the update my server does not find any output devices.

Do I have to add new *.kext files for 10.6.4? At the moment I have the kexts from the first post installed!

Initial I installed the 10.6.2 from a regular Snow Leopard Install Disc + the 10.6.2 ComboUpdate.

Today I simply Installed the 10.6.4 ComboUpdate and added the required mach kernel.

By the way I use the "Snow Leopard Server", don't know if that makes a huge difference regarding to updating problems.

Worked fine except the Sound issue.

----

Edit:

- Copied again the kext files (first post v2)

- Installed myHack 1.1

- (successfully) repaired permissions using kextutility

- Restart

still no Wifi :(

still no sound :(

I actually don't give a ... about the Wifi..

but some sound would be nice :/

any ideas?

I've updated iAtkos S3 (10.6.3) to 10.6.4 using Combo Update and replacing the mach_kernel with chown 0:0. Effects? Quartz GL is finally works, which means (I think), that 10.6.4 adds GPU acceleration for ION.

PS : I still don't have sound - I was trying place ALC662.kext in /E/E with no effect and trying to place AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.2 to /S/L/E with no effect too. What should I do? Any ideas? Thanks for Your help!

Sound Problem solved!

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t215309.html <- thanks to this thread.

Hit Terminal, enter:

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x85\x08\xec\x10|\x62\x06\xec\x10|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDA

Restart.

Solved my sound Problem!

Best regards :(

P.s. This fixed ALSO!!! my DTS Problem from Plex! :(

10.6.4 fixed the Problem with the Hardware Acceleration using the builtin ION.

This Terminal Command fixed my Sound and DTS problems.

...

Today was a good day :)

einKeks : Have You tried Atheros Kext which is included in iAtkos S3? It works fine for my IONITX A-E - Atheros card is seen as Airport!

Thanks for information.

Maybe I'm kind of dumb.

But I cant find the iAktos S3 image on a - for me - reachable source.

Would you mind to attach the kext in a post?

I think I'm not the only one with Wifi issues here ;)

Are any further customizations required? Or simple copy the kext into the /Extra/Extension/ folder?

Best regards

Keks

btw:

did the terminal command fix your sound issue?

The commandfix doesn't work for me ;-(... I'm losing my mind now to solve this problem and don't know what to do...

Here's the AtherosFix Kext - have fun :-)!

In my /E/E folder are also :

AppleNForceATA.kext

Disabler.kext

ElliottForceLegacyRTC.kext

fakesmc.kext

OpenHaltRestart.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

SleepEnabler,kext

AtherosFix.kext.zip

hi, does anyone install sl patch 10.6.5?

i tryed but it will freeze my sl when it loads audio 'drivers', i see it in verbose mode. I don't know why but it feezes, i can't press any key, thus, i have to restart the pc

it can be file problem?

it's all ok with 10.6.4

Thanks man! You're awesome :D Wifi also working properly now.

einkeks or someone else who has a fully working system, would you mind giving a short write-up of the steps you have taken to get it working?

I have an urge to kill my Ubuntu/XBMC installation veeery soon! :-)

I can give you an overview of the steps I performed to get OSX Server 10.6.4 running for 1080p playpack (using Plex) and DTS sound via the DigitalOut jack.

I’m a completely osx86 newbie, so it can be that some of my steps are completely unnecessary.

In Post #308 I already mentioned my solution to get my OSX running with version 10.6.2

Now I will add the steps I performed to get it running on 10.6.4.

If you want to have the hardware acceleration feature for 1080p playback you need to update, due to the fact that this feature was not present in version 10.6.2 (see post: http://elan.plexapp.com/2010/04/27/hardwar...coding-on-plex/ )

Performed Steps:

- Installed 10.6.4 comboupdate

- Added the kernel file for that osx version

Result: System running so far. Working 1080p playback. No sound (no output selection in system settings)

I didn’t had any clue why the sound is not working...

So I installed

- myHack Installer 1.1

- repaired file permissions with KextUtility v.2.3.2

Result: still no sound

In a different thread (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t215309.html) I found a terminal command which finally fixed my sound problem.

“sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x85\x08\xec\x10|\x62\x06\xec\x10|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDA”

- executed Terminal command

Result: Working sound (It worked for me, but not for Maxavelli)

Finally the final problem to solve was the Wifi

- Installed AtherosFix.kext (see post #318)

Result: Working Wifi

If someone need I can also send my "Extra"-Folder it's to large for forum-upload :<

Hope this post helps you!

Best regards from Germany! :)

Next days/weeks (sorry, I'm busy next days) I reinstall from zero to another harddisc

IONITX P-E runs now 10.6.5 with default kernel :D But I don't have time and knowledge to make a proper DSDT: no sleep, no wake-on-lan, no switch-off. But everything else is ok, even sound :) Don't know about Wifi because I sold the card.

I installed Snow Leopard on IONITX P-E completely without any help from a 2nd Mac! I just used VMware with Snow Leopard running, so you need a 2nd PC.

Maybe I found next weeks free time again to get proper knowledge to make my custom DSDT. Then it's time for an howto.

What kind of method You have used to install retail without replacing the kernel? ##### + #####?

No, IONITX P-E use a Celeron SU cpu, which don't need a patched kernel. An small overview what I've done last saturday:

 • installed Snow Leopard in VMware
 • made a 2nd copy
 • prepared one SL with 10.6.5 update, /Extra/Extensions, Chameleon, AppleHDA from 10.6.2
 • inserted this (virtual) harddrive to the other (virtual) SL installation
 • have done a sector copy with Carbon Copy to a (real) USB harddrive
 • swapped from USB case into my IONITX P-E
 • booted and have fun with 10.6.5

This is a small version of the story. I found some quirks (VMware, bad old harddrive, Chameleon version, sector copy strategy, testing another AppleHDA solution...) to point out. Now, the steps are easy and straightforward. It takes 2-3 hours into a fresh new Snow Leopard installation on IONITX P-E. Without a real Mac.

I hope I get one or two free days next weeks to read and try everything about DSDT. But I'm busy at work ;)
