Full solution for Zotac IONITX Atom 330 for 10.6.x SL

I don't know if it would be possible (I'm sorry, Newbie here) for someone to create a step by step version of this topic (maybe updated for 10.6.5 or 10.6.6)!

I have a Zotac IONITX myself and I would really love to use it with Plex and I'm seeing bits of solution everywhere, 1 for Aspire Revo which is not exactly the same but still, 1 with #####/##### and this one but I was wondering if someone can refresh it up with a more dummy style description! ;-)

Thank you, it would be very appreciated!

Thank you, polvorito seems perfect yes but can someone tell me where can I find step by step instructions on how to modify Snow Leopard and apply those kexts, DSDT modifications and Chameleon settings?

Thank you!

EDIT: Never mind, everything is installed and working now! thanks to Polvorito!

Hallo

i have problem on my zotac ionitx c-e with atom 230 after upgrade to 10.6.6 form 10.6.4

I have problem on hdmi video output. My screen remain blue..

The hdmi output has always worked with nvcap into dsdt, but now not more.

I have tried to regenerate nvcap with vga rom and nvcap maker, and it return a value that not same of old, but this does not work also..

What is the problem?

Can you post your nvcap?

I have tried to replace nvidia driver with old version, but the system freeze when it boot up, after grey screen with apple..

Why don't You use polvorito's DSDT with newest Chameleon RC5 which detects 9400M/ION?

BTW : Sleep Enabler for 10.6.6 speeds up booting (desktop shows faster) and eliminates the blue-screen-effect (between Apple Boot Legacy Logo and Logon Screen), but sleep don't work. Screen becomes black, fans still working and only thing I can do is power off the computer. After pressing the power button (to power on the machine) I have CMOS reset effect (POST shows 960 MB RAM only). Anyone know what i Can do to eliminate this crappy thing?

I have the same problem with the configuration of porvorito..

But why do you use dsdt injection and graphicsenabler simultaneous?

My problem is random.. sometimes screen is correctly powered, but usually it remain blue..

i will downgrade to 10.6.4.. if i don't have success.. :P

OK, I got it all to work just fine. This includes the following

High-level specs:

Zotac IONITX-F-E, with 4GB 800 MHz RAM, SATA HD, SATA DVD Burner, HDMI Video, Optical Audio Out to a Receiver, 802.11N and Gigabit Ethernet, Snow Leopard 10.6.5

Working

* Sleep (Suspend to RAM and Safe Sleep)

* Wake from sleep with MCE Remote and eHome receiver

* Reboot

* Shutdown

* Audio (Optical)

* Hardware Acceleration

* Time Machine

* USB2 (EHCI, Hi-Speed, etc.)

* Power button for suspend and resume

Not Working

* HDMI Audio (I'm thinking of trying to change my system to macmini4,1 and poking around with getting my video card HDMI recognized with the existing Nvidia drivers in 10.6.5

* Sleep on idle

* I know this may be fixed by setting the sleep mode to Hibernate only, but I don't want to deal with the longer resume

* This may also be due to my use of a DVD Rom drive, as I've experienced this issue with certain SATA dvd burners

I'm using almost everything from "Update 2", almost no special bios settings, and the teateam 10.6.5 kernel. Feel free to post on this thread if you have any specific questions.

Thanks for the resources!

update 2? do you mean the second update in the first post?

i have the same configuration as you have, but, snow leopard wont works with 10.6.5 and 10.6.6, i'm using the files in the first post, i tryed to install fakesmc from polvorito's post, always freeze, i see it in verbose mode.. don't know why..with 10.6.4 all works

i have 4gb ram so i can't use polvorito's dsdt

i'm doint this steps:

1) format a partition in hfs+ (journaled)

2) install snow leopard by another partition (as the same as dvd)

3) patch partition with combo update

4) installa chameleon

5) copy extra folder ecc ecc

6) change kernel with osx86tools

7) reboot

if i do this steps with 10.6.4 all works.. with 10.6.5 and 10.6.6 it frezees, with same files ...... ye sure i change kernel with the right, i'm not using 10.6.4 patch kernel

i'm installing with an another partition, i have 2 HardDisks, 1 for snow leopard backup and you for daily use, i log in in the backup one for install snow leopard in the "main" partition

don't know why all works with 10.6.4 and freezes with the other, with the same file!!!! grrrr

I also have 4GB RAM and Polvorito's DSDT works well.

:)

i suppouse you have a zotac ionitx with atom dualcore 330 + ion, so, teach me, what do you do to install snow leopard 10.6.6 on your pc? Could you teach me how to do? Could you link me what files do you use?

i have a zotac ion itx f-e (atom 330 + ion + pci-e 16x) and i suppouse it isn't a pci-e problem, because all works with 10.6.4, why if freezes with other release?? :)

i replay, i did this:

1) log in in a backup snow leopard partition

2) install snow leopard in main partition

3) install 10.6.4 combo upgrade

4) install chameleon RC5

5) replace extra file from first post

6) replace kernel patched

7) reboot into main partition

8) all works

now, i tryed to install fakesmc from polvorito's post, than boot on backup snow leopard partition, install 1.6.6 combo upgrade, change extra files from polvorito's, change kernel, pc freezes

i tryed to do a new installation with directly 10.6.6, put fakesmc into system/library/ext*eccecc* applehda too, install chameleon, change extra folder with polvorito's, change kernel, pc freezes

i trued to install 10.6.4 with polvorito's files, all works :)

so.. how do you do to install 10.6.6 into YOUR hakkintosh?

you might need to find new files for 10.6.6.

I havent had the time to look into upgrade to 10.6.5 or 10.6.6

but I think you need to search for a ne fakesmc, new chameleon etc

a good start is to go to the links in my post to see if anything have been updated

In my opinion dsdt should not need any update.

For the ram (2 or 4 gb) newer versions of chameleon detects the amount of ram you have...

C U soon

in this same thread go to post No. 238

I posted everything for 10.6.4, you can download all the files needed, and configuration screenshots.

haven't gone any further than 10.6.4 ... no time for that anymore.

If you want to install 10.6.5 or 10.6.6 read my post anyway

there are links to where I found all the necessary files, use these links to find updates.

My files might not work for newer versions of OSX.

nevermind.. i found a solution

i use chameleon RC5 last build (the experimental on topic) + your configuration of com.apple ecc ecc.. use your DSDT

i use your extra folder, but, i put fakesmc keytext (without all plugin) into extra/extenction folder, and i install it in system/library/extenction.. so i have 2 fakesmc on my hard disk, 1 on extra/ext.. 1 on system/library/ext...

if i remove the fakesmc on extra/ext system won't boot, so, don't know but, now works

thanks to all

oh, now i have a problem.. i can't shut down the pc.. if i press command button of shutting down, all stops, hd fans ecc ecc, but, if i re-press power botton, nothing happens

if i want to switch on the pc, i have to press power button for about 8 seconds (force shut down) and re-press power botton

i may be a dsdt problem? maybe ram is already on...... ???

i don't understand what's the problem.. if i shut down with windows 7 x64, system shut at normal use, so, it's a snow leopard bug, not a bad bios configuration

.....

EDIT: FANS DOESEN'T SHUT DOWN!!, so PC is ACTIVE! HD shuts down

i'm trying to install sleepenabler

ok.. i resolved the problem

i change polvorito's DSDT with DSDT from first post.. all extra folder is from polvorito's post

now shuts down normally

1. Install iAtkos S3 (10.6.3) with atom kernel

2. Make first boot

3. Copy polvorito's files into /S/L/E and /E/E

4. Reboot

5. Install 10.6.6 update. Before reboot replace the SleepEnabler.kext with 10.6.6 Version and mach_kernel with 10.6.6 Atom Kernel.

6. Reboot

7. Voila!

Hi,

can someone with the board test if the dvi and the hdmi works at the same time?

Greetings

yes i suppouse

guyz.. i have a problem.. i installed 10.6.6 and it is all ok, i used polvorito's files + dsdt from first post, all work, but, sometimes mouse "crash", when i close a windows, or minimize it, mouse goes everywhere.. that's the same problem who you can have if you put an optical mouse on a mirror, or, on a glass.. mouse icone moves everywhere

i have a logitech mx518 and i'm using a program witch remap button, it calls Steermouse, i tried with usb overdrive, and it has the same problem.. what could it be?

oh, i used this program in 10.6.4 too.. so.. that's an upgrade problem.. or.. polvorito's file problem

may i have to try to upgrade usbmouse kext? where i can find it?

oh.. that's not mouse problem because it works on windows 7 without bugs

oh.. i find this and this (in second one users has the same problem like first post)

so.. maybe it's a kext problem.. apple wrote kext anti-hakintosh.. i'm trying to reload the 10.6.4 files on 10.6.6

Sorry guys, I'm newbie... :(

The installation steps:

=== Installation ===

* Place /Extra files to your /Extra folder

* Edit /Extra/smbios.plist: set your memory serials if you wish, change your Mac Mini serial, if you wish

* Place “boot” into /

they mean to place these files into the Snow Leopard Retail DVD?

I've got an Asus EB1501 with ION mobo and Atom 330 CPU (as Zotac). This 'Full solution' will work for me, right? :(

Thanks in advance.

No. In the boot volume, manually from another mac.

Be aware that ymmv. Different bioses make it such that all ion / atom 330 combos are not equal. But worth a shot. user vladimirk said he had some success with these instructions.

oh.. maybe my mouse problem could be happen with overclokked sistem.. don't know why but with polvorito's file + chameleon rc5 snow leopard find my overclokked sistem @1.6 and not @2.0

other version with file from first post find it @2.0 ghz

it could be chameleon problem? i used rc4 for the 16.6.4

maybe it a spread spectrum problem for internal gpu

EDIT: yep, i suppouse it was a spread spectrum problem, i disabled only the gpu spread spectrum, and it gives up a boost performance

maybe it coulod be better with disabling cpu and sata spread spectrum, but, i don't want to corrupt the datas, and cpu is stable with overclock and spread spectrum

it's all ok now.. try to disable it

it wasn't spread spectrum problem

pfffff

it could be safari's problem? i see it happens when i use safari on facebook for long time.. system lows down and mouse get this bug

THANK YOU!

This is by far the greatest hackintosh I have ever built. I say so because I was looking for a solution (replacement for my Media Center PC) and the Zotac IONITX-F-E was the perfect and greatest solution that I have found so far after long Google search nights and study.

Running a Shuttle K45 hackintosh won't cut it. I couldn't get that machine to play my Blu-Ray rips at a decent resolution (1920 x 1080) because of the old GMA950 so it was not an option to have it hook up into my TV. The other issue was the VGA output. I needed DVI or HDMI. Anyway, I decided to test this IONITX-F-E out and not expecting any less everything worked right out of the box for me!!!!

I can play 3 Bbrips at the same time without lags, I can put the machine to Sleep, Wireless works as expected. I can finally authenticate to my Radius server (WPA2-Enterprise) and the list goes on and on...

For references I'm going to take the time to explain everything I did, hardware specs and where to buy it.

Good luck everyone!

There is no way you could go wrong with this build as a media center hackintosh. Have fun!

Hardware All from NewEgg:

Motherboard: ZOTAC IONITX-F-E

Memory RAM: G.SKILL 2 x 2GB DDR2 800

Case: Rosewill RC-CIX-01 WI

Hard Drive: WD Green 500GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

DVD Drive

Total Price: $384.94

Installation

I used an external enclosure (USB) to install Snow Leopard in the Hard Drive purchased from Newegg. NOTE: You need a Mac to do this or another machine running Snow Leopard.

Install OS X Snow Leopard from a retail DVD.

Boot into your new installation and upgrade to 10.6.2

Replace Kernel with the patched one for your Atom in / (root)

Install Chameleon 2.0-RC2-r640 (Yeah I used it myself and it is good

Replace boot in / (root)

Replace everything in the /Extra folder with the files (VERSION 2) from the first post in this topic.

post-64173-1267068646_thumb.png

Now move the hard drive into your hackintosh, boot up and have fun!

I was able to overclock the Atom 330 to 1.9GHz stable. Bumping up the FSB to 667MHz will leave the machine very unstable. Maybe playing with voltage a bit more with some time will actually allow me to hit the 2GHz... I do have the fan that came with the motherboard installed on top of the CPU and Chipset heatsink. The build is so quiet that you can't hear it running with your ear next to the box (even when the case has no cover!) That's how quiet it is!

This is what it looks like... It is so nice with the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse! You need a USB bluetooth dongle to be able to use the Magic Mouse and the wireless Keyboard.

And this is a QuickTime recording of the machine...

I love this! I have an HP mini 311-1000nr netbook running Snow 10.6.2 and it runs awesome. Video is only limited by the single core, despite it's two threads. This mobo has the extra core for a total of 4 threads, from what I can tell. Please correct or affirm this for me.

The only drawback I have on the mini 311 is that I cannot run iMovie and videos, especially from sites like youtube, don't play well. Please tell me that those are not issues with the Zotac IONITX Atom 330. [praying]

Also, how much power would be needed to run with a slot-load slim dvd with 4GB as I'm looking at a case that only has 110watts. I'll get what I need to get since this is a desktop and not a laptop.

thx

i have a zotac ion f-e with 4gb ram, overclokked at 2ghz (atom 330.. 2 core 4 thread By hyper trading) and i can run full hd from youtube, and from quicktime, don't know about imovie because i don't have that program

i can tell you that atom 330 can "decode" 720p videos from youtube and "divx" or mkv ecc ecc

atom CAN'T play fullhd video, but, in my board there's a ion chipset, witch have an nvidia geforce 9400m.. this gpu can play full hd video as normaly as can do a faster pc, so, it's ALL OK

right, you have to install apps witch can use h264 decode by gpu.. vlc can't do that, so, you can't play full hd from vlc, because this program can't redirect video code on gpu, and atom 330 isn't so fast for a full hd..

browsing is ok, i can open "200" tabs on firefox ;)

for power consuption, atom 330 needs 8W, 22-25 on ION (gpu + chipset), 7W for HD 1-4W for fan/s, 10W? for dvd?

it's about... mmm... 60-70W at full load

Big thank you folks. I followed first Eugene's post and then others and got both 10.6.3 retail installed and then 10.6.6 installed. Followed the basic technique of sticking the boot disk first into another Mac/Hack system and Erasing/Formating as MacOS GUID partition Journalled, and then ran the vanilla Mac OS X 10.6.3 installer and the copying over the various boot, mach_kernel_atom and other kexts.

OOTB, the Atheros WiFi works, I get some warnings on boot about processor state but sleep works with Eugene's v2 of the ionitx boot files, although, like many, the fan continues to spin. Total power with PicoPSU and Active PFC 12VDC brick is 28 Watts average and 7 watts idle. Under other Linux, solaris the fan is still turning. Haven't tried the pmset of the hibernate mode to 1. Apple HD Audio default in 10.6.3 seems to no like anything with ALCxxx codecs. The ALC662.kext bundled by Eugene had symbol misalignment warnings during boot and no audio. I simply installed a 10.6.2 version of AppleHDA.kext from the shuttle k45 GUIDE (search the archives for Eliade's posts) and that worked like a charm.

There is some website that posts all the kernel versions that support mach_kernel from SL 10.6.2 to SL 10.6.6. I was using the 10.6.3 version for mine and it was fine, and Chameleon2 RC5-r643 seems to get the boot just fine.

Had to add arch=i386 to get some apps like VLC 1.1.7 and DVD Player to not suddenly crash.

WARNING: Unless you have the EXACT versions of all boot and 10.6.6 mach_kernel_atom installed on the disk, do NOT do a combo update to 10.6.6 or, if you're a glutton for punishment like me, I tried it twice and it simply doesn't boot nice and hangs. The 10.6.6 mach_kernel_atom I downloaded from mediafire.com and is a file called mach_kernel_atom_10.6.0_xnu-1504.9.26~3.zip (and the 10.6.0 version is for 10.6.6 update...) results in nastiness. System hangs badly. The kernel debug output doesn't reveal much, except it's a killer on filesystem access and I had effectively back out the 10.6.6 update.

Notes: If you don't have an AHCI/SATA mac/hack to stick your disk and pre-install with that first and then insert into your ION ITX A-E, I was able to test a hypothesis that I can use IDE/SATA compat mode on another hackintosh, install chameleon 2 rc5, install software, kexts, boot, mach_kernel_atom, then move it over to IONITX box, hook it up, and it actually will work under AHCI! (I did this because the case on that hackintosh system was a bit hard to get into).

Otherwise, love this build. Thanks SO MUCH for the instructions and files. It's working pretty awesome right now and very low power.
