5) Dragged 81xx kext (from Lnxs2Mac) to kext helper and installed

6) ran kext utility to fix permissions

7) rebooted. either it boots and ethernet just says self assigned IP

OR

I get the black screen on boot and fans running at 100%!

hi, I'm new here so dumb it down a little:)

I just got my SL installed on GA H55-UD3H and R5870 using #####+#####.

everything seems to be working but I cannot change the display resolution, 1024x768 is the only option.

is there a fix for this?

There is no need to use #####. Just find an Extra folder that has the write files and copy it into your install after install Chameleon.

I suggest you use the search function to find the X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 thread (I assume your board is 2.0) and then look for my post (I think #287), which has all the instructions and files to get a 100% working SL install with 10.6.4.

You will need to use Kabyl's boot instead though. Just read his instructions from the linked thread.

New user here, just to confirm, the Asus EAH5850 is able to be supported in full 64bit for a snow leopard 10.6.4 install?

I went through the process about 20 times with a ENGTX460 over the weekend only to find out it is completely unsupported.

I don't mind if it takes extra work to install all the drivers, I just want to ensure that at the end of the day, I can get it up and running with my 3x4gb of RAM and at 1920x1080 resolution..

It appears as though this is possible based on previous posts, but if anyone has ultimate confirmation can they let me know?

Thanks,

Safest way is to try #####: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/10/ibo...cs-support.html

Right, I will definitely be using ##### and ##### when I get to that point, but I'm more curious as to whether anyone can definitively say to me that yes, it is possible to get the ASUS EAH5850 (or TOP edition) to work with OSx86 given existing drivers and tools.

Only reason I'm a little gun shy is I had already bought a ENGTX460 only to find out that there's no way to get it to work with the existing drivers.

It's very hard to make sense of this because I don't really have time to look through 27 pages. From what I understand, the 5850 sometimes has problems crashing, is that correct? What about the 5870? I should think that it would work perfectly, considering that the new Mac Pros use it. Does it have any issues?

Which one would you recommend? 5870 sapphire, 5870 gigabyte o 5870 asus? mhz stock or overclocked?

(where can i see if i have installed "sleepenabler"? i can't see it but i think didn't installed)

get the cheapest of the three as they are all good cards, dont get a OCed one as you can easily do that yourself. they will all work with 10.6.5, you can go read the 10.6.5 topic in the releases forum and get mroe info, but as i have read so far you wont have any issues. if you do update to 10.6.5 try it without sleepenabler first.

sleep enabler can be found at kexts.com or here on the forum just search :(

So the 5850 should be a safe bet, then? Does everything work on it - Quartz Extreme, OpenCL, proper VSync, etc.? How is that the 5850 works on Mac OS X, anyway? I thought only cards that have been used in previous Mac Pros were compatible with Mac OS X, and as far as I know the 5850 was never in a Mac Pro.

They work the same as all other cards we have that were not in a Mac namely the drivers contained in OS X are generic to the family of cards in that series and Apple limits the cards supported to the PCIDs in the cards they ship. What mostly is done on a Hackintosh is the injecting of the non-Apple device IDs into the relevant .kext(s) to make them load for that series of card.

Hello guys, I am a new user who wants to venture into this wonderful world that is the world's apple ....

I decided to write because I need your advice ...

Before you expose my problem I give you my configuration that I will later put in the signature itself ...

my pc:

Asus p6x58d

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Toxic 1GB DDR5

12GB of DDR3 RAM

2 SATA 320 and one from a 500GB

I think I have given you the basic information of my PC, now I expose my problem ...

I installed version 10.6.2 Hazzard, I tried to upgrade to 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 but it was a total failure ...

The problem is the video card ... During installation I am going to select the generic driver and the card he sees me as a 4800 series with 256mb ram and thus causing a flicker and no ability to select a more appropriate resolution to me ...

I tried to wander around on various forums primarily foreigners but to no avail ...

My question is this, there is a driver for my card or to fix this flicker? There I'd be grateful ...

Thanks Alex

I'm facing similar issue. My old EVGA GTX 275 card went bust & i'm looking for a replacement graphics. While looking through 28 pgs of info, i can't fig out what to do.

Qn:

1) If i were to go from nVidia to Ati graphics, what are the steps i need to do? ( the Extras/Extension & DSDT tweaks)

2) If i were to stick to nVidia but change to another model say a GTX 460 1GB, what are the steps i need to do?

I understand currently there's no full support for nVidia 460 graphics, so i'm more inclined to getting an ATi 5850 or 6850 since mac is officially using 5850 for their mac pros.

Any follow through steps is greatly appreciated. :( ATM, i'm using Win7 & SL is not functioning with an old spare 7600 card.

(ps. Seems EVGA is not reliable brand. They were having durability problems with their MBoards & now i face their graphics card konk out on me in less than 1.5 yrs. I don't game & don't OC)

Hi, i have changed an 9600gt by an ati 5870 but my Snow leopard don't starts.

I try boot with "-x -v" but not start, show "kernel panic" "you must press the button to restart...."

You need to use either a 32bit ati init or Kabyl bootloader (is what I am using right now) with GraphicsEnabler set to Yes. You can find it here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1546946 it is still in beta as far as I understand but is working for me.... no sleep though
