dougaa
The Bad Axe does not even come close to the speed & power of the new iMacs, unless you are talking about the Core2Duo ones. For a good iMac i5/i7 alternative check out this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=176155 I have a 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600 in my Bad Axe 2. I don't think that's much worse than the quad 2.66GHz i5, especially since the Q6600 can easily be overclocked to 3GHz. I certainly would use the i5 or an i7 for a new machine, but I don't think it's time to upgrade yet. peerless
For people having issues with Pentium D - just look for a modbin kernel... I'm about to try it tonight By default , vanilla kernel will not work on Intel Pentium D/Celeron D/Pentium 4 with SSE3, its because its not based on Intel Core micro-architecture series. Thus resulting a reboot. To fix this modbin has bin-patched (aka binary patched) the Vanilla kernel , so that it doesn’t perform any checks on CPU type. olav
How can I fix the BadAxe2 Lan Problem? I have to disable the onboard Lan Device in the Bios ... Otherwise I get a Kernel Panic That's strange, it works perfectly well for me in both 10.5 and 10.6, how can you be sure it's related to the ethernet card? After reading a little bit in this thread i figured out that disabling the onboard lan device is an soloution. Okay after disabling it does not bring the kernel panic and want to boot. My seccond problem was try to update from 10.6 to 10.6.2 ... i tried booth. First the Software Update and on a other new installed system the Combo Update. Same Kernel Panic for booth soloutions. My Question is now: How can I set up a with LAN working 10.6.2 System? Any Guides or HowTo's ? Try disabling/removing the IOATAFamily.kext For the record, both 32- and 64-bit vanilla kernel work; QuartzGL and Quartz Extreme are both enabled. All software updates done thru Apple Software Update utility. Let me know if you want more details. El Chupacabra
I thought that you couldn't run the 64-bit kernel on the bad axe 2 without getting random kernel panics? 64-bit works fine. Added arch=x86_64 to com.apple.Boot.plist and it boots automagically. Checks out with system_profiler and/or uname -a You do need the dsdt CMOS fix for 64-bit. Thankyou Conti. Do i have every time do the -s -f -32 (and than the Kextcacheline) process when i want to add a new driver (in System/Library/Extensions) ? What sound driver are you using ? I thought that sound issue is the main set back for 100% working SL on BA2. Do you have the rest of the system running ? (e.g. sleep, microphone, etc...). Thanks. El Chupacabra
TheG33k: There are plenty of utilities (shell scripts) that will do the job. I use pfix which was written by Conti. I also use M-Audio products (Firewire Solo w/ BX5a monitors). Leoopardoo: For on-board audio I use the VoodooHDA (recompile by Prasys) package. Don't use the microphone feature, unless it's thru a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro. Never use sleep mode. diogan: Were you able to get a 64-bit kernel working? diogan
diogan: Were you able to get a 64-bit kernel working? I haven't tried yet, actually. I was nervous about messing with my DSDT since everything is working other than 64-bit kernel. TheG33k
Yes the System is flawlessly running. I am using the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 Sound card. The Drivers are from http://www.audio-evolution.com/drivers/ and working very well under Snow Leopard (except the Sleep ... here i had to use the Sleepwatcher from http://www.bernhard-baehr.de and a little kext load / unload script) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/181410-snow-leopard-on-bad-axe-2/page/7/#findComment-1379431 Share on other sites
sir mac alot
wondering if anyone has done the DSDT IOAtafamily panic fix for badaxe2? the fix is totally different than the badaxe2 dsdt. could someone post how they patched there IDE in DSDT for the panic? is everyone still using PC EFI 10.1? is anyone using Chameleon 2 RC4 with success? RC4 seems to work for me except I get this error in chameleon after selecting the mac drive. "Errors encountered while starting up the computer. Pausing for 5 seconds..." SL loads fine and works. In Disk Utility I get no drive errors and permissions are fine. is this why 10.1 is used? kae
Hi. I'm trying to follow Tader's guide from the first page, but when I try to boot the SL install I get disk IO error (see image). I couldn't find this error in any of the other posts and I've tried to follow the guide thoroughly. Is there anything I have forgot to do ? I admit I'm not very technical of me BadAxe2, Q6600. kae
@kae -> Have you AHCI in you Drive Configuration enabled? (Bios) Yes, I have set SATA mode to AHCI in bios. Sorry, forgot to mention that. I have followed Tader's guide until the rebuild of the Extensions.mkext. I get this error when I then try to reboot without -s -f -32. ntsmkfob
To fix your ATA issue, go visit netkas and get his AppleIntelPATA fix. You can also fix it in the DSDT later.
