munky
ok, so this might be jumping the gun a bit, but has anyone managed to perform the boris trick with a fresh install of 10.4.8 using one of the new 10.4.8 kernels (semthex or mifki/vitaliy)? gixxer_drew
Well looks like I join the ranks of those who couldnt get it to work. Sapphire 512mb 1600 PCI express. Jas 10.4.7 Screen just goes black when it would normal switch to OSX GUI and change resolution. I have a cinema display which is DVI only so I got a VGA to DVI adapter but that didnt fix it either. joneSi
Ok folks, I've just switched from an x1300 Asus card to a x1600xt Sapphire card. Everything is GEORGEOUS on this thing, but I am having troubs with the ripple effect. Other than that its great. I've installed with 3.2 installer and I'm thinking I may need to do a fresh install of 10.4.6 (jas) or .7(jas) (of which I have both) then try the manual install of this method. I've done some searching and have seen that it may make a difference. If there are any more experiences then I'm all open for input (or pointing to posts)... joneSi edit: I had/have callisto installed right now because of the old card. I think I'll start over after I get my SiL-3132 SATA card so I can run at full SATAII speeds. Any suggestions that anybody has are welcome to me. My ears are open. Siobhan
I have this extreme artifacting issue, using any version of anyone's X install disc from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8 including JaS' latest 10.4.8 full release. However, I have a 10.4.4 disc that works perfectly, using the borisbadenov method on the files from that release. As soon as I activate the X1000.kext from 10.4.6 or 10.4.8, I have green, pink and cyan squares all over my screen. If I change resolutions, I get an artifact-free blank blue screen for a second and then the artifacts are back. I have a retail boxed Radeon X1600 (0x1002:71c2) and no issues like this, outside of 10.4.6 / 10.4.8 ... Any suggestions? macintoshy
What is the best card to get for DVI output.... There was a post about this card... http://www.provantage.com/asus-eax1600xt-silent~7ASUC08R.htm Please confirm that this works with DVI... To my experience this card definitely works boths ways: DVI and VGA. I use my Asus EAX1600XT SILENT Edition with full DVI support. I only use my own patched version of ATI1000.kext files to get a fast desktop. Boris method installers did not work that perfect for me. The last 3.5 Installer gave me an awfull slow desktop. Could depend on the hacked 104.8 kernel, don't know. Sound was also bad. I will try the new 3.6 soon. I flashed my Asus card with the saphire rom for testing borisbadenov 3.3 driver, and the VGA did not work. So I return to my asus rom and worked on with my patched kext files. danzigro
I have the same problem as Stone. I know it's a new card and I have to be patient. I keep searching the threads hoping that someone made it work already, but I wasn't able to find a solution yet. I would very much appreciate a hint or two. Rammjet
Besides the installer, there is a manual method. First remove the patches that the installer made by running the uninstaller provided with the installer package (you read the instructions in the installer, right?). Then follow the Boris link in my signature for the manual method. Might work, might not.
