It was not my intension to put Munky on the wrong track, it's clearly the case that there are different Zotac 9300 board's

for example my audio only works with id 662 (0x174B437B) not id 12, also not all dsdt gpu info works for all board's

So I downloaded the 10.6.3 combo update and ran it, rebooted and all seems fine so far

 

I will give updates if I find anything wrong

EDIT: I had to copy back the AppleHDA.kext that I had previously in-order to get sound out the front audio jack

hmmm tmongkol already got a patched version for AppleHDA 1.8.4fc3

I cannot tell the difference with the sound, but it is always good to have the latest version of a kext. The "sound assertions" when booting up seem to be different to the previous kext I was using, but that may be just a difference under 10.6.3 rather than the AppleHDA.kext.

 

Anyway, good to see that nothing is broken!

Here is the section containing the sound assertions that I get on boot. They are certainly different to the ones I was getting before and may not be related to the kext. Any ideas?

 

I have the same error's if hd audio in the bios is set to internal & external

If set to external error's are gone

hey guys, back again :)

 

so, couple things. firstly HDMI didnt 'just work', which is kind of irritating. my TV has VGA input, so i might just go with that. (yes, i know, its not digital, so what? :)) - sounds like HDMI might be doable (NVCap stuff, above), but might cause issues (colour problems?).

 

another option there would be using a DVI to HDMI adapter, since I know DVI out works. seems stupid though, when the board has HDMI out ;)

 

next, 10.6.3 / new audio kext - I plan to use Plex on this box - are there sound issues?

 

on the subject of Plex, and this is a long shot, is anyone here using Plex and the 4oD plugin (for UK) ? i cannot get it to start, but the BBC iPlayer plugin works fine. wondering if upgrading OS version (currently still running 10.6.0) would help? :S

 

finally, i dunno if you guys have any insight on this, being non-Zotac related, but...

 

im upgrading my main hack to Snow and i've got everything (ethernet, wifi, etc) working in 64-bit kernel and kexts except video. i use an older Radeon X1800XL 256Mb card. My device ID was already present in ATIRadeonX1000.kext. GraphicsEnabler did nothing, and I converted my Natit values to a device-properties string, but that doesnt seem to have helped. i see there's some option in Chameleon for specifying a video ROM - should I try that?

 

any help appreciated! :D

re: HDMI vs VGA... i came to the same conclusion! :D why bother, right?

 

{censored}! ive started experiencing hard lockups of the machine while using Plex (though that may be coincidental).

 

only thing thats changed is that i've given up on the little USB wifi dongle I was using (experiencing really slow transfer rates and large latency) to using the onboard ethernet plugged into a wireless access point in 'bridge' mode.

 

anyone else experienced hard lockups with the onboard ethernet? :angel:

 

EDIT: now running without the Ethernet connection, no lockups. dammit.

 

slow wireless or hangy wired seems to be my choice... :/

 

EDIT: switched back to the USB wifi. its not slow if i boot in 32-bit mode. think i've found my solution -_-

My technique is a combination of the method used over at Lifehacker for a USB build and then Gaansan's instructions detailed in Part 6 on the first page of this thread. Because I was confused about a couple of things, I thought I'd explain my process here:

 

You'll need:

 

1) At least an 8GB USB thumb drive

2) A friends Mac or other Hackintosh

3) Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD (I used 10.6)

 

For Steps 1 through 3 I would highly recommend you use the Lifehacker article (Steps 1 through 4). I'm not going to attempt to recreate what they did here because I don't want to screw it up and they've got some great screen grabs for what it should look like. I also don't want to pass the work of others off as my own. I have nothing original here, I just wanted to put it together in one place to help other people like me.

 

Step 1 (from Lifehacker here): Prep the Thumb Drive. Follow the same steps as the Lifehacker article (i.e. format your thumb drive with Mac OS Extended Journeled and GUID partition) with the exception that you do NOT make it case sensative (at least I didn't).

 

Step 2 (from Lifehacker here): Create a Snow Leopard image from the DVD and drop it onto your desktop

 

Step 3 (from Lifehacker here): Restore the Snow Leopard image from your desktop onto your USB drive.

 

Here's where I simply stand on Gaansan's shoulders (among others). So refer to page one of this thread

 

Step 4: Download the Zotac_9300_ITX.zip file at the bottom of Step 6

 

Step 5: Unzip the file. There will be a folder called Bootloader Content. Run the Chameleon program in that folder. Once the installer starts the only thing you'll have to change is where you're installing to. Make sure to install it to your USB thumb drive (otherwise it will install to the computer you're using--likely messing it up!).

 

Step 6: Prep your BIOS (again I refer you to Step 6 on the first page of this thread). Including disabling the network port. I'd also set the HD Audio to External (per tinush in post #452)

 

Step 7: Plug in your USB thumb drive and install

 

Step 8: Once you're though the initial setup, I'd reboot and re-enable the network port and you should be good to go! :(

Hi, I' glad you used my way which belongs to this tread without this I would be nowhere

I had the same problem with de audio LegacyHDA.kext which allowed a vanilla install .... this is now past.

To get the sound back my first option was to delete AudioAUUC.kext could not find at the moment better a better solution but a day later reading then reading the Tinush tread (thanks a lot Tinush) talking about a new AppleHDA I downloaded it ( AppleHDA 1.8.4fc3) and lo sound was back but not only it worked but sound improved dramatically my mike input is practically noiseless also the internal speakers sound looks clean, before some low hum was also bugging me... again great ... this upgrade was very useful at least to me. Video seems also faster (it's not perfect

with Acrobat while scrolling some black traits when I use the hand but the scrolling wheel is OK so I don't bother)

I have a problem to download it.

 

I have this problem too:

 

This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.

 

This limit is reached.

 

To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.

I reinstalled my Snow yesterday from USB drive to SATA one, managed to get almost everything to work and surprisingly, my DSDT with custom NVCAP for HDMI does work without issues described previously (contrast and weird colours after restart) but i can't really get HPET to work. Does this patch need to be applied along with C-State fix or it's not required? Even if i apply HPET patch to DSDT (it compiles without an error) i still can't boot without NullCPUPowerManagament kext because i get "No HPET support for CPU" (or something similar) right after reboot. If it comes to C-State patch, it gives me a lot of errors while trying to compile DSDT. I took patches from this post.

my machine seems to be grinding to a halt over a period of 24 hours or so.

 

console.app shows a edu.mit.kerberos thingy started by launchd is crashing and being restarted every 10 seconds. anyone know anything about this?

i actually think the hdd may be dying. i'll be doing something innocuous, like looking at Console.app or something and i start to get random colourwheel of death which lasts about 1-2 mins. During this time, I cant do ANYTHING with the machine, nor will it respond to pings etc.

 

I also got 'disk0s2: I/O error' a couple times in verbose boot, and once from Software Update I got 'an error occoured during installation'.

 

why is it always your biggest disk that fails?

 

unless im missing something else obvious here? i dont think the machine is overheating (BIOS hw monitor indicates CPU and MCP are at around 65 degrees).

 

help?

{censored} you guys, i think i've solved the problem.

 

turned off 'put hard disks to sleep where possible'. the disk was sleeping and was unable to wake!

Finally my 42" lcd philips tv arrived so i can test the dvi/hdmi/vga dual screen connections

Initially i used the gaansan nvcap setting's but it only gives me dual Dvi&vga and vga is not fully working with resolution changes (works after sleep)

When using the posted nvcap by KrzychuG from a previous post, Dual screen hdmi/dvi is working with all resolution (did not test vga yet)

I do not see any color or contrast shifts, so for now it's ok

at this point my only problem is that i updated to the latest bios and lost cpu/fan throttle after sleep (it's at full speed grrr) don't know where i can find/download the previous versions!
