Hi.

Many Apple news websites have spread the rumor of an Apple event on March 24th, with new Apple machines, and even a "surprise". As many of you certainly guessed, it might be the release of Snow Leopard. It would be a great symbol, as Apple wants to stop PPC support with this release, on Mac OS X's 8th "birthday".

What are your thoughts towards this rumor?

No fucking way. Snow Leopard is still ages until release, have you even tried any of the dev builds lately? They have to have a Gold Master for quite a bit before they can release it - they've got a manufacturing process, too....

Yeah, I contribute to spread the rumor, but I'm not 100% giving credit to it because of no Quicktime X screens leaked. No, I did not tried the latest build, because I wasn't able to install it on a MBR formatted drive (don't want to screw my Vanilla install on my GPT formatted drive) and my MacBook is nearly full.

But, I think this could be a good date to release it, even if OSes are most often released late.

Since 10.5.7 is in tests right now , and has yet to be released, I doubt that snow leopard will come so soon. First 10.5.7 , then Snow Leopard ...

Not to say Snow Leopard is ready but the release of 10.5.7 has nothing to do with a major release. 10.5.7 is a free update to a existing continued supported product. Snow Leopard is a new sale. The two has nothing to do with each other. They could relese them both on the same day if they like because everyone out in the real world will not drop Leopard and go with Snow Leopard the day it is released. They still want Leopard to be the best it can be.

I have installed The 10a261 just to have a glimpse of the snow leo. I had to use a special kernel and a special bootloader and I had to replace the IOATAfamily.kext with the 10.5.6 version...

It almost looks the same with leo but extremely Unstable and it even ocationally resets my bios on shutdown and restart

I think there is no way that apple can release snow leo before the summer...

And the 10.4.11 update for Tiger was released after Leo hit the shelves.

Same {censored} , different day.

Once Apple marks something as "unknown"/"surprise" the rumor mill goes wild and people fill that gap with their utmost weirdo phantasies.

Recent keynotes were inflated the same way and people were disappointed in the end.

again and again... Same {censored} , different day.

my guess is a new beta snow build, a new macpro, maybe new imac and mini

Well, seeing as they updated the Mac Pro, iMac, and Mac Mini lines today. I don't think Apple would hold a conference for a new beta build. So hopefully, it's not another update to their iPod/iPhone line (or even the announcement that Verizon and other CDMA carriers is getting the iPhone). We can only have so many of those. Not to mention, they already updated their iWork and iLife software suites so what could be next? Hopefully, it's a new product no one knows of, or it's something to do with Os X 10.6.

Zero chance of a 3-24 release. It would have to be in final RC stages or even RTM now to make that date. Impossible. What's more likely is they will unveil new features, perhaps the new visual design, on the 24th and announced a release date for later this year.

My guess is its going to be one of these:

- Sneak peek at Snow Leopard with a probable release date and a new build

- New iPhone announcement

- iPhone software 2.3 with Push

Now this seems to be the only reasonable, err, announcements!

No but seriously though, the next iPhone update WILL (well most probably will) be tied to 10.6 since 10.6 is really introducing the Push notification thingy! I doubt that a brand new iPhone will be announced (just a tad to close to the 3g) but they might announce a new firmware release. And a release date for SL. :)

Snow Leopard needs a lot of work, yes, but if I was Apple I would be desperate to preview some killer new features of Snow that they have presumably been sitting on, as Windows 7 should be frightening them silly - we are in a recession, people want to hold off upgrading their hardware and Microsoft are saying, Hey, you don't NEED to buy new hardware to run Windows 7'. Apple need something tangible to excite their shareholders and convince them that the product refresh combined with Snow Leopard is a biggish deal.

Mostly, though, I would think this one will be about online services and the addition of some more major new bells and whistles to their downloading service.

Hardware wise, outside of what we already know about, I would think a 'new' iPhone model with a tolerable camera and larger capacity storage and further additions to its OS, none of which involve major retooling.

I think we had our excitement a few days ago! I was costing alternatives to the new Mac Mini and, even if you ramp up to a better quad core spec, how do you find a computer case that looks a tenth as good as the Mini's, which itself is very customizeable? There's just nothing like it, out there, plus it works, silently, invisibly, without hassle, with Leopard and with iLife. Hell of a niche product.

Hi, this is Detosx. I have had to create a new account because my account appears to have been deleted. If someone could get back to me on why that has happened, I would be grateful.

My name has vanished from 600 plus posts and I have lost contact with people on my Messenger I was trying to help

My post above may have been objectionable, in which case I apologize without reservation beyond that I was recycling what seems has been said by others. Though I am not a developer and have not had a chance to try out Snow, I am sure it will be great when it is ready. If an Admin could get in touch with me, please. Thank you.

If they still plan an event for the 24th, there could be about iphone market enlargement. I see many new cellproviders have signed contract with apple. Maybe announcement of wwdc09, which seem to be in late may or early june. Snow could be ready by that time, so it would be a nice date to release 10.6.

i expect to see announcement of snow leopard officially to the public on march 24.... my 2 cents: snow leopard official beta for the masses will be ready on 24 mar, the time when the craze dust about windows 7 settles down.... and the official final release date will be announced on 24 mar together with the announcement of wwdc 2009....
