Azimutz
yes, fascinating indeed, especially if you go one deeper and read here:http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219 lots of the problems posted sound too familiar. and this Thanks mate.. just did some very interesting reading, specially about procedures before and after updates. http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html And the problems some people state in Apple Support, man, i didn't saw anyone here with similar problems. I had to download the update 3 times till I got the right sha1. Even after I copied the dmg somewhere else it's sha1 changed. Weird right? Strange indeed. Just for the sake of it and because i only have the Combo "pkg" (threw away the dmg), i downloaded the combo again. All the hash's match! uff no weird "sh.t" here. The Combo i have was downloaded some 8 hours after release, during dawn.. 6 min to complete as the one i downloaded now. The first update i downloaded was through "update manager", 377MB an hour or two after release and took some 15 min to complete, or more. muitommy
I have a similar experience with the upgrade to 10.5.6. The problem may be related to the video drivers. I found that if I removed the EFI strings for the graphics card the system would boot just fine - although only at 1280x1024 resolution. I also tried natit/titan injectors. If I had one of them in the system it would not boot. I got past where the loginwindow app was started, but never to the GUI. Edit: I also found that, not only is the system running, you can also login. While it was stopped on the "-v" message screen, I entered my password and saw disk activity and messages related to opening my user session. Off to do more experimenting i suppose not, that your DSDT patch was actually used. cus the freeze of installation, most probably relates to the intelcpumanagement.kext, i have the same result on my test partition, even though "i have installed DSDT", when i kextload that kext, my system still panics, installs the update, then it freezes. so i suspect it's not installed properly from the very beginning, but i don't know what to do now. clemsyn
Is there a solution for the Kernel Panics when mounting a dmg? my com.apple.plist has mach_kernel as default, which was suggested as a solution earlier, but thats not the problem for me. You need to replace the seatbelt.kext with the one from 10.5.5 and dmg panics will be gone. Goodluck! Well, yes ans no. I get first a blue screen with no cursor and then black with the cursor. My graphics card is GeForce FX5500. I have a second OS X partition which is still at 10.5.5. When I boot it, I can look at the log files from the failing partition. I see indications that the coregraphics and window server are having problems. problem is, I havn't found out why yet Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/26/#findComment-1006911 Share on other sites

Azimutz
The Voodoo kernel has some nasty kests black listed.. read the Documentation carefully!! If you use it, you don't need to bother about DSMOS, AIPcpuManagement, AppleRTC, etc.. and you don't need DSDT. I'm going to say this again and for the last time.. EVEN IF YOUR CPU SUPPORTS VANILLA KERNEL, TRY VOODOO!!! And guy's.. when i started some 4 months ago, i came across a post in some site that recommended, AT LEST A WEEK OF READING as preparation for OSx86.. i did that and in one week i went from trying JaS 10.4.8 on a Vmware to installing JaS 10.5.4 on my PC.. in the middle i passed through Kalyway 10.5.2 and iDeneb 10.5.4. AND I'M STILL READING!!! And for your sake, get space and a test partition/drive or you OSx86 experience will much more complicated! Good luck to you all.. INSTAHackintosh project is rolling again and as a tester (and a lover), i have to devote my time to it. aao_pink
why i can't gram video from dv devices if [...] ? No answer sorry, but, if you google cinelerra, or lumiera, or any of the linux video projects, you will find 1394 support for cameras seems to be one of the hard things. Even iMovie used to drop support for live record for some camera models, then pick it up again as the versions progressed. <conspiracy theory>When ppl moaned abt no firewire on new MacBooks, The Voice of Apple said: "New cameras don't have 1394, get yourself a new camera". Gotcha: I haven't found a usb camera yet that can live stream, they all mount as bulk storage device. I have a MacBook at the office, the last model with 1394. I'll update it tomorrow and report back to you.</conspiracy theory> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/26/#findComment-1007373 Share on other sites
BladeRunner
Can i view the same logs when i boots from install usb-hdd partition using the terminal? I don't see why not. Look in /Volumes/osx-10.5.6/var/log/*.log It should look something like: bash-3.2# ls -l /Volumes/Production/var/log/*.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 Dec 3 22:50 /Volumes/Production/var/log/alf.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 217857 Dec 20 05:05 /Volumes/Production/var/log/fsck_hfs.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 42579 Dec 20 05:08 /Volumes/Production/var/log/hdiejectd.log -rw-r----- 1 root admin 4262 Dec 17 12:24 /Volumes/Production/var/log/install.log -rw------- 1 root admin 71912 Dec 20 05:08 /Volumes/Production/var/log/secure.log -rw-r----- 1 root admin 8801341 Dec 20 05:08 /Volumes/Production/var/log/system.log -rw-r----- 1 root admin 87200 Dec 20 05:08 /Volumes/Production/var/log/windowserver.log -rw-r----- 1 root admin 255995 Dec 20 01:40 /Volumes/Production/var/log/windowserver_last.log You can tell from the time stamp which ones were just updated. Then use tail to look at the lase entries like this: tail -n 100 system.log | less That will show the last 100 lines of system.log and pipe the output to less so you can read it at your own pace. If you aren't sure of the command options for tail or less, there are man pages for them. The loge should give you some idea what is going on. If you have a working 10.5.5 partition on the system in question, you can boot it. Then in a terminal use this command to see whivh kext are loaded in your correctly running system. kextstat > my-kext.txt less my-kext.txt That way you can see which graphics kext are loaded. Good luck. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/26/#findComment-1007417 Share on other sites
komodo-tux
The 10.5.6 update went pretty smooth for me! My install was Retail Leopard using the boot-132 method, and a modified Munky EFI partion bootloader (I have it on a MBR HDD to dual boot, so the EFI partition is just a normal 1GB HFS+ partiton). I did not do the DSDT update, mainly because it is way over my head at this time . I just did software update from 10.5.5, it installed, did the double reboot thing, and I was up and running! It was sort of an Apple giveth and Apple taketh away thing. My wireless had been worthless before, always cutting out. Now it works great! However, now one of my USB hubs that used to work doesn't anymore. I'm trying to figure this out, but informed suggestions are always welcome! Wake from sleep never has worked, and it still dosen't. BTW, I never could have imagined being able to do the retail install without all the great directions and tutorials in this forum, so a big thank you to everyone! puzzela
The only thing you have to do for getting ps2 mouse and keyboard back is editing this file: ACPIPS2Nub.kext/Contents/Info.plist change "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" value to "1.2.4" to fit the new "AppleACPIPlattform.kext" looks like this: <key>OSBundleLibraries</key> <dict> <key>com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform</key> <string>1.2.4</string> <key>com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily</key> <string>1.2.0</string> <key>com.apple.kernel.libkern</key> <string>1.2</string> </dict> Thanks. attnck
Try to use another distro, the Kalyway ones don't work with the Time Machines backups. I use Kalyway and it works with Time Machine 100% I have booted using the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc and restored using time machine from both internal and external drives. Now for my current problem. I just installed EFI 9 and after rebooting I got an error, "No Boot Device Found -- ...." I fixed this by running fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 2 update write quit reboot This made the partition I had OSX installed on bootable again. Then after the reboot I get a black screen with a blinking cursor. (Safemode boots without error.) Restoring with Time Machine does nothing, and I'm guessing I could just re-install and backup from Time Machine but that would not take me forward only back. Anyone have any ideas why I'm having this problem? I uploaded a photo of the boot error. I haven't done anything else, not updated or anything just applied PC_EFIv9 using UOI. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I've been searching the forums for the last 12 hours lol but I'm learning so much I'm almost glad this happened. I'm also working on something for the community that once ready I believe will be of great help.
