Hi all,

Man I'm getting frustrated with this DFE boot 132 stuff. Ok When this came out about a couple months ago I tried it and was able to do a retail install (I believe) using the burnme.iso.Everything is working great. Now fast forward to today, here I am and using the same boot cd and retail copy of 10.5.0 I can't install. I type -v -f and I get a whole wack of big font text for a while and then it goes to small font textand looks like it's loading, but it doesn't. I end up getting "waiting for root device". Can anyone one tell me what the issue is? My hardware is in my sig. I haven't changed anything at all hardware wise or BIOS wise. I've tried most of the boot cd's that come close to my motherboard and all get the same error. Something is holding it back, but what??

just to clarify, now u still have the same burnme.iso boot-132 but in ur 1st install about 2 months ago, did u use the same retail copy of 10.5.0?

No one has any ideas?? Does anyone have a boot 132 disc that will work with a Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo?

You can try GA-P35-DS4 it may work with you :sorcerer:

EDIT:

I've found one for P35-DS3L :withstupid:

Good morning,

I stopped my BOOT-132 experience for some time but now I am here again. My hardware is:

Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS4 (V2.1)

CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600

I installed the retail version of Leopard 10.5.0 by using BOOT-132 but I have a problem. At the end of the installation (when the setup says that OSX was installed correctly)........then the setup is not able to restart the computer, so I have to restart it by pressing the reset button.

So I can boot OSX correcly (always by using BOOT-132 CD) but the restart of the PC does not work. I have also another problem (maybe related to AppleSMBIOS). I can not read the information about my system. It says me that there is an error when retriving the system information.

Inside my INITRD.IMG, I have the following kexts:

IOATAFamily.kext (someone suggested me to use this kext for my ICH9R chipset)

AppleACPIPlatform.kext

AppleAHCIPort.kext

AppleAPIC.kext

AppleGenericPCATA.kext

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

AppleSMBIOS.kext

dsmos.kext

IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext

Now:

1) Can someone suggest me if I need to delete any of the listed kexts or if I have to add something ?

2) Why can't I restart the computer ? Is this problem related to some kext ?

3) Do I need to add AppleSMBIOS to solve the problem related to the system informations. Which AppleSMBIOS works correctly ?

Thanks

for restart fix, kindly check that the last 4 lines of the Info.plist of your AppleACPIPlatform.kext looks like this:

<key>OSBundleRequired</key>
<string>Root</string>
</dict>
</plist>

if it is & you're still having a problem restarting, try this one (attached).

Hi mate,

thanks a lot for your help and suggestion. Now I am at work ....I will try it this evening. Do you think that I need to delete something inside my INITRD.IMG ?

Thanks

if u haven't tried the abovementioned boot-132, i guess u gotta try it 1st since it's exactly for your mobo.

OK so I was able to get a retail copy of OSX installed and updated to 10.5.4. Now this is really interesting. I burned the P35 iso to a cd and booted it up, no problems there. I then took cd out and put in the retail install dvd and then hit enter and then enter again and then F8 right away. I see large text scrolling and then after a bit it goes to small text and then my SATA dvd drive slows right down and then after about 30-40 seconds I get "still waiting for root device" and the drive is doing nothing. What gives?? I don't get it. This did work last time I did a retail copy install.

Anyway so I got to thinking that it must be my drive and decided to pull out my LG ide dvd drive from the closet and try it. I then put in the same boot cd and boot it up. I then put in the retail dvd and did the same as I listed above. Large text and then small text, but this time my dvd drive did not slow down it keep spinning. Within, I would say, 30-45 seconds I have the language screen up and I was off to install retail copy of OSX. I'm still wondering why it worked with no issues with the IDE dvd drive and not with the SATA dvd drive? Anyone care to way in?

Hey,

I have one problem, AppleAC97Audio.kext doesn't boot from my CD I need this kext to make audio work.

This extensions isn't in /System/Library/Extensions folder and I have this error:

Sep 10 02:35:23 localhost kernel[0]: Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleAC97AudioIntelICH" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0.
Sep 10 02:35:23 localhost kernel[0]: can't determine immediate dependencies for extension com.apple.driver.AppleAC97Audio
Sep 10 02:35:24 localhost kernel[0]: Can't determine dependencies for com.apple.driver.AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.
Sep 10 02:35:24 localhost kernel[0]: Couldn't alloc class "AppleAC97AudioIntelICH"

I'm booting with -f

Is there anyway to make this kext work from my boot disk without add it to my Extensions folder ?

Many Thanks in advance ;)

kindly make sure that u didn't overlook that the last 4 lines of the Info.plist of this kext looks like this:

	<key>OSBundleRequired</key>
<string>Root</string>
</dict>
</plist>

if it is & still won't load, then u got to place it in /S/L/Extensions. this is the case w/ applehda in my mobo. or u may try efi studio to add just the audio strings in your com.apple.boot.plist. this way, your leopard's /S/L/Extensions stays vanilla.

I've added OSBundleRequired on AppleAC97Audio.kext and AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext but still doesn't want to boot.

And I can't make EFI strings because I'm AC97.

Do you know what makes the kext not to load from the boot CD ?

Thanks a lot ;)

There is no way yet, to override AppleHDA.kext... i replaced mine too... the only kext replaced at my installation...

so i guess at the moment, u gotta place ur appleac97audio kexts to /S/L/Extensions & let's hope that someone could come up w/ the solution. :)

OK, I've just added it.

But I'm still vanilla :) because I didn't found it on my new vanilla installation (maybe Apple new hardware doesn't use it now ?)

so I think that there's no new AppleAC97Audio.kext will replace it again, what do you think ?

in your future apple updates, the only thing that might break in your retail leopard install are those appleac97audio kexts. when that happens, u just gotta put them back. :)
