hey people, i am trying to lnstall retail on my laptop Aspire 4720Z . i have already a copy of leo on it (iAtkos 1.0i) the boot cd works but i have tried the -v and -v -f flags and i put the 81. but nothing happens it just boots in to OSx that i have on already so.... what can i do ??? my specs are :

CPU :Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz

Chipset :Intel PM965/GM965/GL960 / ICH8

video : GM6965

for more info look at the bottom of my post

if it help i am dual booting vista and OSx on a Journaled Extended portion of the same HD . and if it helps i am in Nyc (ok i know it doesn't but i thought it was a little funny :D )

instead of 81, you need to input 9f

you insert the boot cd. then once it loads and gives you the option to enter a number, replace the boot cd with the leopard dvd. then insert 9f and it should start loading the install dvd.

but i really don't know it would work on your laptop.

it's worth a try though.

Hi everyone. I have an 200GB SATA II HD only for OSX and I already managed to install it with this method.

I splited the disk in 3 partitions: Kalyway 10.5.4 on the 1st, Retail install on the second and the Retail DVD image on a 3rd partition.

I tryied to copy all the content of my Memory Card I'm using to bot with to the 2nd partition and then install Chamelon but when I reboot I got the error below:

post-5507-1216491655_thumb.jpg

I'm trying to get rid of the memory card and boot directly from the 2nd partition. Help?

Another weird thing is this error I'm getting every time I boot:

post-5507-1216491680_thumb.jpg

It started when I replaced some kexts to fix my onboard audio. I tryied restore them but the message persists.

boot up from the cd and then use osx86tools to install chameleon and fdisk the partition.

that worked for me.

Hi, Is there any chance to have on "GUID" Mac OS X and WinXP. Thanks in advance.

I have OSX, Vista, and XP on the same GUID partition map....Didn't have to do anything special either, i did however make sure sp1 vista and sp3 xp were slipstreamed into the DVD/CD i used

Hi, At the moment I'm having only one partition with Leopard "Retail" installed on it. What do I have to do, to backup my XP. I have resized with diskutiliti and bring back XP on the second partition, but after restart, I can only see that disk is mounted on Desktop. Chameleon doesn't see it at boot. Please help me whit an advise. Thanks.

afiser,

I have been trying to figure out how to create a dual boot scenario on single disk with GUID and read nothing but warnings that it can't work. Could you please maybe start another thread and give us details about how you created your setup. I have never slipstreamed anything before...sounds interesting though...

back on topic to boot-132....

My future dream for boot-132 would be that there is some way I can create a boot DVD that will boot into the chameleon bootloader(as it does now) and then look on the same DVD disc for actual OSX booting code to run and boot up. Basically I would like to create a private restore disc that I can boot up, give me a choice between booting from the HD or booting from code that is on the same DVD, choose DVD and then actually boot up some minimal OSX stuff like the OSX install DVD does, and run Disk Utility, restore to a partition a DMG that is also stored on the DVD, reboot, choose HD, install Chamelon, done. Total restoration time would be 10 minutes, all from a single disc.

I'm not sure whether boot-132 could presently handle this task through configuration or perhaps some feature enhancements might make it possible if not?

i have used generic.iso with leopard retail...........i get stuck at the apple logo on the first machine and on the second the apple logo starts and then restarts the machine ....what im i doin wrong plz help in advanced

can i install vanilla on my system ? my specs p5w dh deluxe q6600 2gb ocz 5300 xfx 8600 gt seatgate 1tb.. i current have installed leo4all v3 successfully mod kernel

i've got this installation 100% functioning except when i updated to 10.5.4 while i was expecting this, i wasn't expecting to be totally stumped as to getting qe/ci back, i've tried using my old nvinject files, tried using nvinstaller, i am at a loss, the card is a 7900gs 256mb device id 0292, if anyone could give me somewhat step by step instructions on how to get this going i would be so grateful, i've looked all over and tried everything i can think of.

One user asked if it is possible to have XP and OS X with GUID Table on samee HD.

I have OSX, Vista, and XP on the same GUID partition map....Didn't have to do anything special either, i did however make sure sp1 vista and sp3 xp were slipstreamed into the DVD/CD i used

OK.

Do you select Boot with Vista booloader (booting Vista or XP or OS X) or do you use EFI/chameleon to boot all of them ?

Vista bootloader (BCD) can do more (GUID also) than the XP booter, i heared.

But in which order did you install all that ?

I dont have/want Vista (which handles GUID ).

Maybe an Vista Install first, helps with his bootloader also XP, who cant handle GUID(or can it?!)

Thanks for detailed instructions.

boot up from the cd and then use osx86tools to install chameleon and fdisk the partition.

that worked for me.

I did installed chameleon from OSx86Tools but it didn't worked. And I haven't fdisk the partition because I'm using GUID. Fdisk works with GUID too? Because I only used fdisk with MBR partitions before, I'm afraid to fdisk it and overide my GUID with MBR.

Try this NVinject kext for 10.5.3 (that I "borrowed" from Mysticus C and modified) from my thread. It works in 10.5.4 with the GA PCIe 7300gs 256 mb and the PNY AGP 6200 256 mb, dual displays and QE working. I´d be surprised if it does´nt work with all the 7000 256 mb cards. Check out the thread on how to get either the DVI or the VGA port as your first video port. This kext is set for VGA as first port and DVI as second.

I also had my cards perfectly working before I updated the OS to 10.5.3 but not after so I had to find a soloution and I did. Good luck

It is possible to dual boot with XP 64 at least, I did it. You have to use cahin0 as the Darwin Boot Loader does not find XP 64 (or even Vista 64) for that matter even if it is in the partition table before OS X. Vista 64 also dual boots using cahin0. It should be possible to install XP (but I remember reading that XP 32 does not support being installed on a GPT (GUID) partition table).

I did installed chameleon from OSx86Tools but it didn't worked. And I haven't fdisk the partition because I'm using GUID. Fdisk works with GUID too? Because I only used fdisk with MBR partitions before, I'm afraid to fdisk it and overide my GUID with MBR.

you might be right. but it didnt ruin my partition. just dont do it then. i believe you need the dsmos.kext in your extensions folder. the dsmos.kext is on the boot cd.

hope that helps...

To all of those wondering what i did for the OS X/Vista/XP tri-boot. I made a GUID partition map with 3 partitions on it with the disk utility on the osx retail dvd that i booted with boot-132 CD. i installed osx on the first partition. booted with my boot-132 USB and osx worked great. so now i installed XP (i did it in this order because i wanted vista to be the boot partition and if i would of installed xp last it would of made xp the boot partition) on the 3rd and last partition (there was in all i think like 5 partitions 1 was GUID stuff, 2 was osx, 3 was an unformatted 128mbs, 4 was vista, 5 was xp). xp installed fine and booted up (no boot-132 in the usb port so it would boot the hdd). then lastly i installed vista, it booted great and i installed easybcd to edit the vista bootloader to give an option to boot the xp partition along with vista on boot up. after all of this was done my active partition on my hdd was the vista partition that boot the vista bootloader which now i had a choice to choose between either windows os's via that menu, and os x only boots when i have my boot-132 in the usb port. i understand that i rambled a lot but it can get pretty detailed but i didn't want to be too detailed.

and when i say slip streaming, i mean that i put the latest service packs on my windows discs using vlite and nlite (google, what they do is edit your vista(vlite) or xp(nlite) install disk so you can put service packs or drivers or whatever you'll need on the disc image that you will burn to a new disc.) the reason why service packs are important is because sp1 of 32 bit vista implemented the ability to use guid and i think the same happened with 32 bit xp under sp3.

got it. So basically, the only way this can work is by using a USB stick for boot-132, otherwise XP and Vista would always be unable to boot on top of EFI emulation. Right?

One thing I was not sure about was whether the XP installer would be ok installing into the GUID partition, but it sounds like XP is GUID-aware since you were able to do it.

But I guess we still need to pester the chameleon dudes to provide a way to specify for each bootable partition whether we want EFI emulation on or not. Then you wouldn't have to use your USB key to enable OSX. Right?

Also, I guess if I want to have OSX be my primary boot, then I should install XP first and OSX last. but since I have already installed OSX..do you happen to know what I would need to do after install XP to get things back so that OSX is the default OS and chameleon boot loader loads up?

I guess I could start over, install XP first and then install OSX all over again and then finally restore my backup. Kind of a pain, but that would do it too I suppose, but I'm still stuck with the issue about how to control when EFI is loaded..which you have solved with a USB stick, but I don't have that option right now.

i really appreciate everyones help here, this forum compared to the vast majority of other online communities is functional and informative because of the wonderful people who take part in it, i've always had responses to my inquiries and its always helped, i now have a completely functional retail os x with qe/ci and the works, i decided to go with efi studio for the video card instead of using kexts, and it worked perfectly. so i should be set, thanks everyone!

You can install chameleon, copy the "boot" file from the USB to your / directory, add the extension from the USB to /Extra/Extensions. Then, get the chain0 file from your OS X install and add it to your Vista boot loader. This way you can tripple boot using the Vista bootloader and not having yo use your USB drive.

been trying this. i believe i've made a modified boot-132 disc to accommodate the kexts required. the thing is, after ejecting the boot-132 disc, i type "-v" then type "80" then enter. after that, i get the grey screen w/ the error asking me to reboot (also in other languages).

any advice pls?

just a "trying-to-understand" question: why is it i'm presented w/ only 2 options, either 80 or 81, which represents my harddisks? shouldn't i be booting w/ the leopard install dvd (which is in the optical drive)?

I can't!!! and with Kalyway runs fine.

Thanks

Hello everybody.

I try to boot with the generic.iso or the original.iso with the same problem:

After the computer boot with the cd, in the screen appears for one second:

System config file ' /com.apple.boot.S/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found.

Screen changes and i can boot the dvd retail without problems but the computer freezes in a few minutes (everytime in a different step).

Any idea?

Thanks and sorry for my english.

My HD has a MBR partition, any problem with this?

Thanks

Hello,

I have booted from the generic cd and got the DVD to start loading. My problem is that it freezes at this line:

Apple16X50UARTSync1: Detected 16550AF/C/CF FIFO=16 MaxBaud=115200

I have a GA P35 DS3L mobo, quad core cpu.

Please let me know what I need to do to get it working. Thank you, in advance.
