Rammjet
I dont think its anything that OS X did, Im pretty sure its all in what I did by deleting that partition The fdisk -u command has nothing to do with OSX, it: "Update MBR code, preserving existing partition table." ACC0RD22
oh. well, im still getting the same error message. it gave me a list of options after I clicked that commend, should I have chosen any of those? Rammjet
it gave me a list of options after I clicked that commend, should I have chosen any of those? What options? Something like this: usage: fdisk [-ieu] [-f mbrboot] [-c cyl -h head -s sect] [-S size] [-r] [-a style] disk -i: initialize disk with new MBR -u: update MBR code, preserve partition table -e: edit MBRs on disk interactively -f: specify non-standard MBR template -chs: specify disk geometry -S: specify disk size -r: read partition specs from stdin (implies -i) -a: auto-partition with the given style -d: dump partition table -y: don't ask any questions -t: test if disk is partitioned `disk' is of the form /dev/rdisk0. auto-partition styles: boothfs 8Mb boot plus HFS+ root partition (default) bootufs 8Mb boot plus UFS root partition hfs Entire disk as one HFS+ partition ufs Entire disk as one UFS partition dos Entire disk as one DOS partition raid Entire disk as one 0xAC partition If you got that kind of response, then the command didn't happen. And there is no "clicking" in the Terminal. ACC0RD22
thast exactly what I got, except it told me that fdisk was an illegal command. sorry, not clicking, pressing enter. Rammjet
Well, the command didn't happen. You booted the install DVD to the first installation window after the languages choice, then you went to the Utilities menu and chose Terminal and then you typed: fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0 ? ACC0RD22
thast exactly what I did. Is there anything that I can do to make the command happen? Rammjet
thast exactly what I did. Is there anything that I can do to make the command happen? You are sure you didn't typo: fdisk(space)-u(space)/dev/rdisk0 where the last character is a zero. Is there an Driver for the: "Intel 3945ABG wireless network adapter" and I need someone for my "Realtek AC97" soundcard, too. macsga
You may have to start the disk utility from the DVD-ROM Menu. Then select the partition / disk you want to install OSX inside and Erase it by selecting The Journalled file system. After that close the disk utility and continue with the installation process. There should have been a green arrow showing the newly formatted partition where you will be able to install the OSX. Let me know if you managed to do it successfully. It's obvious that you cannot install the OSX on the installation DVD! I guess that the above white square on the picture identifies some hard disk you don't want to ruin, is that right? I'd advise you to connect a PATA drive (not Serial ATA) on your PC and try the procedure from scratch. It worked for me, I don't see the reason it won't for you! Keep trying! It worths it! Rammjet
I guess that the above white square on the picture identifies some hard disk you don't want to ruin, is that right? No. What samerali2 has been trying to say from the beginning is that when he goes to Disk Utility, he only sees his DVD drive and install DVD and no other. He hasn't taken his own pictures, he's using other pictures he has found. With his original post, he references a procedure saying to go to Disk Utility. Then he posts two pictures of Disk Utility. And then he says he can't get his HDD to appear there. The white block in his recent picture is to make it look like what he sees when he goes to Disk Utility. But the exchange has been entertaining...
