cbmkgd
Well, after succesfully using Acronis OS Selector (aoss) for many days, yesterday I got the same problem as sp0rsk posted here: "loading acronis os selector... press esc to enter menu press f6 to skip menu. and no matter what i press or if i press nothing it just sits there and does nothing." Trying to reboot did not solve the problem. So I rebooted with the Acronis Rescue Disk that could be burned from the Disk Director installation, and there was an option to repair the OS Selector. Opting for this, and rebooting (after removing cd), I could get the AOSS working again. I hope this can help sp0rsk at least. In general, I would strongly recommand users to create the bootable Acronis Rescue Disk after installing Disk Director, it might be quite helpfull. This disc includes Disk Director itself, it can install AOSS on another machine without DiskDirector, and it can attempt to repair AOSSelector when it bugger's up... As for me, aoss seems too buggy yet, reminding me problems with previous versions, although v.10 was promising as a standalone boot manager. Will return with the chain0 method which worked well from the begining, and will think again about the grub option. mediabob
i was wondering if i could use my AMD Athlond XP cpu to install os X. Quoting cpu-z my instructions are "MMX (+), 3DNow! (+) and SSE." In the installation guide, it says SSE2, SSE 3 etc, but i dont want to screw up my comp if SSE just isnt support. Does anyone know 100% sure if SSE is or is not compatible with this? Harshboy
I like to take risks, you may not. When i looked at the page, my P4 wasnt even on there. So, i had no idea, and just went ahead with it. It works fine. I just cant get Audio and networking working. GCY
YEA!!!!!!! I finally managed to get it to work using osx86_10.4.5_amd-intel_sse2-3 after taking dilnalomo advice of getting a new iso. The first installation I used, MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso, I can't get past the gary background. But using this iso, everything runs smoothly throughout the installation. This guide is extremely helpful, everything is exactly as described and pictured. Thanks dilnalomo. Now my other problem is getting the internet and audio to work. Any suggestions?? btw....my machine is a Dell E510/5150 with dual core 2.8 ghz. Seems it work just fine in Dual core. Perchik
Ahoy and Welcome to the world of OsX on a Dell Gcy I'd suggest searching the forums, as there are a ton of posts about audio and wireless issues. First you needto determine the type of audio and type of wireless card you have. (Because you're on a dell, I'd suggest going to dell's current system configuration wizard here As far as some posts, heres a few that might get you started http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=15474&hl= http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=11856&hl= http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=17665&hl= Good luck mate! Harshboy
Ok, i need help with the following: 1) Get Audio to work -Whenever i try to backup the AC97 Audio file(cant remember name) it cant find it. When i try to "cd" to the place in the tutorial, it says it does not exist. So, if you guys could try to help, that'd be great 2) Get My Network card working, and Internet up. -I just plain dont get how to do this. I cant compile the Tulip file. Any noob friendly help would be great. My network card is a Linksys NC100 3) Get resolutions to Change -For this, i tried Macvidia, i installed and restarted. Now i need to edit the etc/rc file. The instructions say to put the two lines of text in the top of the etc/rc file. Well, if someone could take a screenshot of where you put it, that would help. Btw, i used the MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz iso. When installing it said something about a 10.4.5 update or something. So i might have 10.4.5. Also, on a side note. I have a wireless card (Linksys WMP54GS v1.2) Maybe i could make this my "Airport" Card. Could i do the hack, and then connect to my router, then to the internet? In Mac OS X, it doesnt recognize the card. So, any help? Please.....if you do respond, please make your info noob friendly. I have no idea how to compile....or use the Terminal, but i can type exactly what you guys type (I needed to use terminal once b4 for Ipod Linux, i just typed what the guide said.) dilnalomo
Ok, so all i do is "sudo -s" and it will log me in as root? And, if i *get* iLife 06, can i install it without harming my OSX? Because, i want to try GarageBand. i dont think installing iLife 06 will harm your osx. Well, after succesfully using Acronis OS Selector (aoss) for many days, yesterday I got the same problem as sp0rsk posted here:Trying to reboot did not solve the problem. ultrasoul
I tried using the MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso (I burned it onto a DVD+RW) to start the installation on my Inspiron 6000 (GMA 900) but to no avail. Error message is repeated 6 to 7 times one after another: "EBIOS read error. Media error. ZBlock 5886. Sectors 64". Same message also occured when I tried to boot it from this DVD+RW on my desktop (P 2.8c Ghz, Asus P4P-800VM). Appreciate any help/ comments. Cheers. PS: There's no problem with the DVD (it's a DVD+RW). Drives on both the Inspiron and Desktop are DVD+/-R. Rechecked torrent and it seems no corrupted sectors downloaded, i.e. image is perfect.
