sp0rsk
edit:i put my windows cd in my dvd rom, reboot. then os selector loaded (passed the "loading acronis os selector..." text). i click the icon to boot with my windows install cd. when the installer loads, i hit R for repiar mode. but the install went like a normal install, i saw it copied files and stuff... and this may not apply to you, but if you are not using a genuine copy of windows, when you boot after the install, you will get locked at the logon screen. you have to activate it or ...... see i cant get passed the boot selector, i have to boot the disc before the os loader Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-121703 Share on other sites

Perchik
Well I completely reinstalled windows, used PartitionMagic to partition the drive, editited boot.ini to add chain0, then I installed OsX. When I boot I have the option to boot into windows or OsX, windows is the default. So finally its a success :-) (and no acronis used :-P ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-121976 Share on other sites

Harshboy
Ok, well, i just finished downloading the MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz iso. (Well actually, i just got back from school and it was done ) Anyway, I've got my partions made, and i'm about to install the OS Selector. My partion was already made, so i just made it FAT32, because it was a Linux Partion. So, i'm burning the DVD right now. I'm hoping for the best. Wish me luck. Oh, and thanks for the guide Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-122001 Share on other sites
Perchik
MDR error? Ok step by step EDIT// I downloaded the iso as a .rar from a torrent. The rar had an iso and chain0 file. I moved these to my external hd right away so that I did not need to worry about potentially losing them. This turned out to a good choice, as I did end up reinstalling windows and I needed chain0 First I booted from the OsX dvd I made. I ignored the whole installation, and just used disk utility. In disk utility I erased all the partitions. (Uh Im not exactly sure how I did that, it was actually a total accident ) Anyway then I booted up from the windows install cd and installed windows xp. Once in windows I proceeded to install all my drivers and stuff etc etc. Downloaded Partition magic + patcher. I resized the partition to 50gb and created a new logical partition linux ext3 type that was the remaing space. (this required a reboot) After that reboot, I went to c:/ and found boot.ini. I copied it to my documents and renamed it bootbackup.ini incase it screwed up and i needed the original. Then I edited boot.ini (in c:\) by adding the line C:\chain0="Darwin/Mac OS X at the end. Then I moved chain0 from the original download to c:\ I then booted up with the OsX dvd. When I got to the choose location screen I went through Disk Utitilty and erased the linux ext3 and made it Mac Extended Journaled. Then I chose that drive for installation, customized the install so I only had the system files, X11, and a few of the patches (ie. no print drives, languages) At the end of the install it rebooted. Now i boot to a screen that says something like Choose Os Windows XP Darwin/Mac OsX And thats that :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-122012 Share on other sites
dilnalomo
i did a similar thing you did. i originally thoguht that if get rid of acronis i would first use chain0 and edit boot.ini, then boot with osx install dvd hoping that after install i can get a boot menu. but instead i got mbr error. first i erased my osx partition in windows. then i put chain0 in c:\, edited boot.ini. then i booted with osx install dvd, installed it. after install i reboot, and the mbr error happily poped up. i think it's the partition type that casued it, my osx partiton was not a primary when i install osx. but then again, it could be a a million other things........ Ok, well, i just finished downloading the MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz iso. Oh, and thanks for the guide i am amazed that you can still find that myz iso. i got it like 3 months ago, it had less than 20 seeds then, and the torrent is still alive now..how amazing. oh, good luck to you! Harshboy
Ok, just a little note. My Acronis doesnt let me make a new partion any bigger than 7 MB (Yes, MB!!!!)...so, i want to expand my partion bigger, and it wont let me....so, is there any other software to convert Ext3 to FAT32 and then resize it? I just want to use my Ext3 partion (Used it for Linux) In the time of my last post, i was looking for a nice DVD Label for my OSX86 DVD.....anyone got any good ones? Btw, i'm 14, so if i spell bad, i'm sorry. I'm very familiar with everything Computer, so dont try and stop me or try to talk me out of trying this. Harshboy
So, i dont need to convert it to FAT32, i can just erase the Ext3 and install Mac OSX on it (Durring the install) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-122058 Share on other sites
Perchik
That is correct. I know this for a fact because I actually converted my partition to ext3 for the installation. Basically in the installation there will be a menu bar across the top, when it comes up to ask for the location to install, you should go to utitlities > disk utility. Then select the ext3 partition. Change the type to Mac Extended (Journaled) add a label if you like, and then click erase. Then you can close disk utility. Once you've done this successfully, there will be an image representing the new mac partition, just click that, a little green arrow will show up, and you'll be good. Harshboy
ok, the Ext3 is only 8 GB, is that big enough for 10.4.4? And is there a free partion resizer program that runs in Windows. Not like PartLogic.......thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/13/#findComment-122081 Share on other sites
Perchik
Well the installation if you include print drivers, and language support is 6.1gb but if you do a custom install it should only be around 3.1-ish gb. As far as partition resizer.....what do you consider free? heh. Have you looked at windows disk management? Control panel > Administrator tools > computer management > disk management. I dont know what you can accomplish with that, but its a start. Harshboy
mkay then, off to install then EDIT: It says that the OS Selector expires in 15 days....is this just for Windows, or the one that i use when i boot up my PC, or both? Or will it simply go back to my normal PC BIOS Booting screen? EDIT2: OMG! OS X installed Fine. Windows is still intact. It shows up on the bootloader, but it wont let me set it to primary. Acronis said something about how its a Trial Version, and it wont allow the selected options. What should i do? Also, when i boot it now, in LOGICAL mode, it says theres an error. Its just a One-line text. My PC hangs, and then you need to turn off, then back on. Well, hopfully someone can help me out. Perchik
i did a similar thing you did. after install i reboot, and the mbr error happily poped up. Hmm what is this mbr error? So I tried my method again...and....you win lol. I got "No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics." I'm gonna see what I can do. Next time I get it to work, I'm definitely going to stop doing tests on my laptop in the name of science lol. I made a nice 20 GB partion for OSX, and now i'm off to re-install everything...well, i'm up to the part where i install OSX...wish me luck (Again...lol) EDIT: It worked! OSX is all setup and working..well kinda. I can't access the internet, and Audio doesnt work, but thats typical. So, add me to your "It worked" list.
