doofoo
Problems here. Box is: ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe Pentium 940D 7600GT Video Card SATA 250GB Drive + DVDR. Using the JAS 10.4.6 DVDR with Intel mods installed, install goes completely fine. But after it's done installing I get the following error: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button" Arconis and all that was fine, it showed Unknown after the install, etc. Windows still works fine, just no OSX. Any idea's here? Thanks! jollyfatman
@dilnalomo: Your guide is SUPERB! Am natively running Mac OS X 10.4.6 Simply put: I am lovin' it Had ABSOLUTELY no problems (Mac OS X 10.4.6 install DVD Jas.iso). Installed on SATA drive (no problems recognizing primary or slave - both SATA). Install went smooth, predictable even. Sound card worked from the word go, and so did the net. Resolution set to 1024 X 768. Can't go higher on my old Samtron 55V. Still have to check DVD read / write and SCSI scanner but am optimistic. Read quiet a few posts about users installing OS X and then having nothing to do on it. Me? I'm gonna have phun ! Have loads of designing stuff I cud not do on my home PC (workplace has macs). One Question Though: When I set the screen saver to flurry, the animation is awful. Jerky and the streams do not 'flow' on the screen. Suggestions anyone? -- jollyfatman just got jollier! Rammjet
After chosing OSX with Acronis Bootselector my OSX loadingscreen shows up immediately. How can I add Boot Flags? When it boots, first the screen turns black and then goes to grey with a spinning icon. As soon as the screen turns black, start tapping the F8 key quickly and repeatedly until a command prompt appears. Type in your boot flags and hit Enter. Hoo, boy, where to start. First, instead of embedding this in the boot.plist that is hard to edit if it fails, try it as a boot option until you get it working. Then put it in the file. When you boot the computer, the screen turns black and then grey with a spinning icon. As soon as the screen turns black, start tapping the F8 key repeatedly and quickly until you get a command prompt. At the prompt, type: "Graphics Mode=1280x1024x32@60" with the quotes. Next, it is the frequency of "60" that is messing with your monitor. That is why it is saying "out of frequency". Drop the "@60" off the command. Next, you probably are not going to get 1280x1024x32 even if you type it in. Your card is running in VESA mode because video drivers are not loading. VESA mode is a fail-safe mode for displaying video and doesn't seem to support 1280x1024. It will probably fall back to 1024x768. So, how are you going to get your desired resolution of 1280x1024x32? Well, you are going to have to get some video drivers loaded. And to do that, you need to share with the group what video card you have so they can point you to where you can get some drivers, if they exist. And, if you get the drivers loaded, you won't have to embed your resolution in the boot.plist, you will be able to go to the Display systems preference and choose it from the list. cbmkgd
DO NOT INSTALL any update directly from Apple. Disable that update notification. ONLY update from hacked updates (jas or myzar or anybody else... keep eyes open on insanelymac for news when there are updates). In your case, you'll need the Myzar 10.4.7 Update for AMD + the Semjaza 10.4.7 Decrypts (never the apple update alone!). http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22465 Sorry for the big caps, but had to get your attention before you messed up your system! kess
Hello, I have a question about installing OS X on a second hard drive. I'm not familiar with the Arconis software mentioned in the article, so I'm not sure if it supports what I'm trying to. I have my Windows installed on C and in order to help keep those files safe I think it'd be a better idea to install OS X on my second hard drive. If I'm not mistaken, if I have a problem with OS X then the files on C should still be okay since all of the OS X files will be on the second drive. I also want to clarify one thing. It looks like you can have FAT32 (for OS X) and NTFS (for XP) on 1 hard drive. Can I partition my second hard drive to be half FAT32 and half NTFS so I can install OS X there, and would the Arconis software be the best tool for that? Will the Arconus boot selector feature still work if Windows is on C and OS X on a separate hard drive? Thank you. cbmkgd
@SH: People have reported success with the macvidia extension for this card. It will allow you to change resolution for now. And hopefully we'll get more eventually. So go there and get the installer. Also register there with the forum, to get news, and solutions if any problems. @kess: Wherever you install osx, make sure it's a primary partition that is before any extended partition. With acronis disk director, you can make that partition of type AF right away. You can partition any of your drives with that acronis product; i recommend you defragment those drives' partitions first. You'll then have to reduce their size, and then create a new partition. If you install on a second drive, you can tell the acronis os selector (installable from disk director) to boot the second drive first, as if it was your primary drive. To know how to use Acronis Disk Director and Acronis OS Selector, i suggest you read the manual: http://download.acronis.com/pdf/DiskDirect...e10.0_ug.en.pdf In general I suggest you take your time and read around InsanelyMac before jumping head first. Read about problems, solutions, etc. This thread has plenty of that. Also look at the OSX Installation section with many more threads, and in general at the Homebrew Macs sections. I know there's a lot to read, but this will make you avoid problems: let others' problems and solutions guide you. And the Wiki is your friend too.
