Hey guys. Thanks to the brains for writing this stuff. I have an x300SE PCI-e card id 5B60, the same as the one your supposed to remove. Ive installed teh patch and edited the appropriate kexts as the readme says and cleared the kextcache. It shows up in darwin at boot as 16mb vesa 2.0. I can get it to run in 1024x768 fine, but when i edit the Boot.plist and change it to 1280x1024 it displays that res,but out of freq range for my monitor. My monitor wants 75hz and all i get is a super pixely vibrating picture til i go back to 1024x768. Is there a way to change the frequency easliy? Thanks for your help guys!

Well, time to eat my words. ;) After I posted this, rebooted, and everything was fine. I rebooted a second time, again fine. After a third reboot, it hung again at the 'loading login window' message, requiring a Safe Boot to get back to the Desktop. After 20+ OS reinstalls, and trying various things, I'm plumb out of ideas.

The problem is there doesn't appear to be a cause-effect relationship. I've tried isolating the variables I outlined in a previous post, but none of them seem to be involved. There simply seems to be NO cause-effect relationship between applying the patch and getting the Desktop to load reliably with HW acceleration.

After each OS reinstall, I'd apply the patch on a completely unmodified system. Sometimes the Desktop would load reliably in the immediately next reboot, sometimes not. If it did load after the patch, it would eventually fail on subsequent tries. The only things that remained constant were 1) no matter how many times I tried after the first failure, the Desktop simply refused to load w/QE and CI thereafter (I tried hex editing the file, too, but the result was no different), and 2) HW acceleration only ever worked, when it worked, immediately after patching (and, even then, only till the Desktop failed to load).

The only thing I haven't tried yet is attempting to use the Primary Port (DVI). Thusfar I've been trying to get it working on the Secondary Port (VGA) (for technical reasons - I'll have to do some major shuffling around of HW in order to put the display connected to the VGA port onto the DVI port).

I'm going to look into this last option and see what happens. In the meantime, anyone have any ideas? :)

An update:

I thought the problem was that I was trying to get the patch to work while running off the card's Secondary Port (VGA). So, I switched over to the Primary Port (DVI), but System Profiler still reports the same Device ID (5D4D). The thing is that, according to Windows, that's the ID of the Secondary Port - the Primary Port's ID is 5D6D. So, I tried applying the patch with what is supposed to be the Primary ID... and got a kernel panic on ATIRadeon9700.kext at boot. :-/

So, there is obviously a fundamental conflict between this card and the driver. I'm thinking it's either the card's port complement - DVI and VGA (the Dev Kit didn't have DVI-out), or the firmware (or both, with the former being caused by the latter). My next moves will be to try the patch on a fresh 10.4.6 install and, failing that, downgrading the firmware to progressively earlier versions. Any ideas over and above that?

Oh, and has there been any word on the new Intel Power Macs? You know, the ones that have expansion slots in them...

I tried to use my ATI Radeon Mobility x700 (device ID: 56 53) on Jas 10.4.6.

But It works perfectly on Myzar 10.4.5, but I havn't patched to 10.4.6 for the moment.

To all guys who have the same problem as me:

use MyZar Version !

I patched whith koverg's patch

and edited com.apple.boot.plist adding resolution.

Works fine !

But I still have a little problem, some visual bugs appears on mouse, but I don't know how to fix that.

I'll take a look.

Now we have to find the difference between 10.4.5 from Myzar and 10.4.6 from Jas...

I can send kext, ask by PM.

Hello from France ! :thumbsup_anim:

So it may be that the ISO I was using was improperly patched? LMAO, well, yes, that would explain a lot of things. I should have thought of that, I guess, but was too preoccupied with the mystery of why the damn patch would work sometimes and fail others LOL. :-)

OK, well, I'll download the Myzar ISO, give it a whirl, and report back. That'll probably take a while since I can't find Myzar release on Usenet (gimme some file names BTW PPL) and so will have to Bittorrent it. Hey, maybe someone feels like being nice and will upload it to Usenet? ;-)

This is just a miserable mire of {censored}e, isn't it? :-P It's kind of difficult to figure-out what the hell is going on here if we aren't all standardized on the same "distribution" of cracked OS X. :-)

f***. Me.

So, I downloaded the Myzar ISO and installed it. Then, first thing, I applied Koverg's patch. For the first 8 reboots, everything went as expected: I booted into the Desktop with QE and CI.

Then, on the 9th boot, it hung at 'loading login window'. I tried rebooting, like, 5 times after that, to no avail.

This is really frustrating. What could possibly be happening here that would be causing this behavior? I've tried every possible angle I can think of, and guess it's about time to break-down and just get an x1600. I'll give a 10.4.6 release a whirl, but have no reason to think, at this point, the outcome will be any different.

This is just nuts...

Weirder and weirder.

So, I posted that last comment from within Windows. I just tried booting into OS X, and QE/CI are working fine now.

I'm sad more than anything - this is not a reliable platform for testing things like Omni's patch and stuff like games (that, and this OS X install can't be trusted to be reliable, day-day, with koverg's patch applied...). :-( Oh well, such is the reality of this stuff. Still sux tho...

Anyone know if there are drivers compatible or at least a way to change my resolution on my Sapphire X800 XT? (PCI-E 256mb)... Im hoping to get hardware acceleration tho.. Ive read through a few pages in this threadand havent seen my card mentioned anywheres..

Cheers!

JEB

I got all the steps to work and am now down to:

5. put your desire Res at "com.apple.Boot.plist" is not posible select at System Preferences

When I put in my resolution and try to save the file is says permission denied. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks :)

EDIT: I did a chmod to 777 and was ablle to add 1680x1050x32 but the laptop still boots into 1280x1024. I have a mobility radeon X600 device id 3150 any ideas??

I am sorry if this question is in the wrong thread. I have an acer Travelmate 8104 WLMi and though a newbie managed to boot my laptop with Jas 10.4.6. So i have a partially working MAC OS now. I now have to figure out how to make other stuff work. But first my Lan card or wireless. Can someone please help me with "how to" or guide me to the page where i can find it. Thank you guys.

I'm thrilled, CG working is so great, so I wonder what would it be like to have also QE working, and after some research, I'm hoping someone could help me on this here.

I got an ATI X800 XL (0x554d1002), on an Abit An8-SLi (nForce4).

I used all kexts from 10.4.6, yes, I copied them from /System/Library/Extensions_10.4.6_Disabled/, including IOGraphicsFamily and IONDRV.

Applied koverg's patch and got CG working, but not QE.

So, any ideas?

Thanks

What does your lan card or wireless have to do with graphics on an ATI card? Dont just post in random forums.

Some positive reply - working perfectly for me. I can even get 30FPS on World of Warcraft Intel Binary! This is a long way from anything that Apple would provide retail but it's a great step in the right direction!

System spec below.

PS.. Any chance of getting rid of these mouse artifacts? I tried that mouse program of yours, and albeit it removes the artifacts when I activate it, but using a little flashlight around my cursor in daily use just isn't practical, and it's annoying. Would be great to have this driver working perfecto minus the artifacting!

Otherwise though, good job!

May seem like a stupid question, but does your laptop support this '1680x1050' res?

Also, I was burning the 3am oil -.- and made some mistakes when doing config:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x1024x32</key>

My point is, make sure the syntax is correct. Even if the syntax was screwed the laptop would boot into 1024x768, not 1280x1024 =/

Really don't know enough about this area of computing to give ya much help.. maybe one of the other OS X expert folks will post ^^

Hi,

This is all new to me. I also would like to install OsX on my lappy.

I have a Acer8103 (intel) with ATI X700 mobility card. I've downloaded the JAS 10.4.6 ISO. Do I also need the 'JaS 10.4.6 install dvd ppf (ATI ATA /b0 fix)' patch?

In order to get my x700card working do I need to apply an extra patch (koverge patch) on version 10.4.6?

Thanks, hope somebody can help me...

Hi, I´ve read a lot of this thread but didnt find the answer: I get this in terminal when i do the "sudo ./patch9700.sh HI LO" step:

Patching to device id: 0x5653

mkdir: /Users/aleszylder/Documents/originals: File exists

/patch9700.sh: line 11: ./binmay: No such file or directory

What should I do? Anybody knows??? Thanx..

OK, ive worked that out but still need help with this step:

I open the file but don't know where to type the RES... ?

i have the same problem. i read somewhere that editing patch9700.sh to change "./binmay" to "/binmay" could fix it, but it didn't work for me. i'm using JaS 10.4.6.
