New Time Machine and Airport updates not safe for most hack users.

I'm an idiot. I installed this update thinking it wouldn't do anything wrong. It broke sleep support on my hackingtosh. I was really happy to have sleep with my new 8600GT but now, it's back to where I was before. Changing back to the old 9.2.0 mach_kernel didn't help at all.

Thanks for the warning, erei33. ;) I second Paranoid Marvin. Works fine on my Hac Pro and HacBook.

P.S. I realized that Apple was holding off the release of this kernel for 16 days. I wonder how much testing can be done in 16 days on a kernel.

Well, got my BIOS-based (thus, non-pcEFI) Vostro 1500 Hackintosh back up. This was a bit of a task because I had to restore several files from single-user mode.

I've been using iAKTOS v1.0i2 updated to 10.5.2 with the Kalyway patched pkg. Added to this was Netkas' most recent SpeedStep kernel and AppleSMBIOS.kext v27 (default version) from mac.nub. I figured after installing the Time Machine & Airport updater, I'd have to re-hack my the AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext plugin in IO80211Family.kext to get my wireless back, but otherwise didn't suspect the misery I was headed for.

After installing aforementioned updates, my machine booted and kernel-panicked at the bluescreen. It was only at this point that I learned the TM + Airport thing was a bad idea. Seeing notes in the post that mach_kernel was replaced, I first restored that. Machine booted fine, but I was worried about AppleSMBIOS.kext being changed. I updated this to Netkas' current one, also noted in the post about the evil TM + Airport thing. Well, that one doesn't work for me - I got the eternal bluescreen and never got to Desktop. After downloading the mac.nub default v27 AppleSMBIOS.kext to a USB flash drive and popping back into single-user land, I restored that, deleted all the usual caches, and was back up and running on next reboot.

Things feel distinctly slower than before, but at least me ol' HackBook isn't going splat anymore. Looking forward to tasty developments to come in kernel-land after this debacle...

(btw, no real difference noted in Airport performance following the re-hack for the Dell 1395)

Update: one thing I hadn't noticed when I read this was that my so-called repairs left me with screwed up peripheral arbitration. I had to reboot the machine to get newly attached USB and Firewire devices to work, as nothing was recognized when simply plugged in. I ended up doing a complete reinstall a couple of days ago. This is detailed on my blog, for those who want to check it out.

Works well for me, except the system profiler keeps crashing and it now says intel core solo in about mac... (threading works fine though(xbench) and activity monitor shows 4 cpus)

intel core 2 quad

biostar p35d2-a7

nvidia 8400gs

kalyway 10.5.1 + comboupdate

edit:

Now it boots faster and strange enough the os finally sees my monitor and I can work on it with full resolution now... still crashing system profiler though.

It worked for me.

First installed the Netkas new AppleSMBIOS.kext. then the update.

Only the memory information in the system profiler was wrong after this

so reinstalled myold AppleSMBIOS.kext.

MSI neo P965 motherboard.

Installed it, now system reboots just before the grey apple screen would appear. Canno enter in single-user mode since it does not recognize my keyboard. What kexts does this thing update, or how can i roll back my system to how it was yesterday?

I am using Kalyway 10.5.2, on an Intel Core 2 Duo hackintosh.

Works fine for me

Using Kalyway 10.5.2 vanilla plus EFIv8. Seems to have improved my boot times as well.

Spec's:

Mobo - Asus P5K Premium wifi (wifi working) P35 chipset

CPU - Q6600 @ 3.6

GFX - 8800GT Fully supported with dual monitors

First post but been lurking since the end of january. And I have based my hack on hardware proven to work from here.

I installed the update on a fresh install, before I read the news. (I was hesitant about the security-update though) but have since installed that one too, and that hasnt destroyed anything either

I got another potential problem though, with regards to my permissions, there persists these unrepairable things. se below. What can I do about that - should I worry? I have repaired numerous times i diskutil, but they are unrepairable, as the util says.

I think I should also introduce myself and my system

Intel Core2 Duo E6750

ASUS P5K-E /WiFi-Ap

2*2 GB Corsair TwinX 6400

Asus EN8600GT 256MB

Leopard 10.5.2 (kalyway)

installed from dvd without graphics GUID vanilla and efi after conbo-update and 10.5.2 kernel I installed nvinject nv.33 and all software updates available after that.

I just wanted to know if I should reinstall or repair before installing software, (cs3 suite Lightroom etc)

I have had another install before this one, but after installing Aperture 2.01 or putting an IDE-drive in it got destroyed and kernel-panicked all the time. Thus I now got two SATAII drives in it.

Best regards

As you can see from my name I had (have) a PowerMac 7600. Wonderful machine, but as expensive as the Mac Pros today.

use with caution, it DOES replace the kernel and other kexts.

new Darwin kernel

backupd

loginwindow

Atheros chipset wireless drivers

Broadcom chipset wireless drivers

IPFirewall.kext

System.kext

AppleShare afpfs.kext

DiskImage.framework

Metadata.framework (mds/aka Spotlight)

Did actually work fine for me and I wasn't on the vanilla kernel because the graphics kext would drop out, now it's fine.

Totally off the topic.

I thought I like your signature first. Then I carefully looked at them. They looked too real. Now I am confused. Should I like them or hate them? It's weird. :D
