  1. Asus P5Q PRO

Need a BIOS mod to work best. Read this thread. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112033
  2. 8800GS/9600GSO

8800GS works flawlessly. No need for nvinject or nvinstaller or nvkush. All you need is Leopard 10.5.2 (at least) with Leopard graphics update here. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/leo...csupdate10.html After that run EFI Studio and voila! http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=26
  3. Sure, like this? I don't know why the above are not 1920x1200. I think tinypic host resized it. I put this one on imageshack.
  4. 1920x1200 1.3MB The burning letters and numbers were premade by someone else. I made the Apple logo and incorporated them together into these wallpapers.
  5. Get a P45 motherboard instead. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16813128344 For the RAM, it is better to go for this. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16820231184
  6. I would say Gigabyte P45 motherboards are quite hackintosh friendly. You need a modded BIOS with an Asus. Kalyway recommends Gigabyte boards for this reason. GA-EP45-DS3 series seems to be good.
  7. It doesn't take much to beat a Mac Pro 8-core. They are really not that fast, 8 cores spread over two CPU's, using very average performing RAM (FBDIMMS) offers only reasonable performance. The cheap RAM you get over the counter performs better. The only situations a Mac Pro 8-core would have an advantage over a good quadcore is in 3D rendering and intense video encoding. You need good applications that can multithread very well. There isn't many around. I ran a couple of real world photoshop benchmarks over at Macrumors, if you check out the times, my Quadcore is way faster than 8-core Mac Pros, easily 20% faster with four less cores. http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p...p;postcount=791 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php...593&page=32 As far as video work goes, I am not sure how a Mac Pro performs in Handbrake, but mine gets 280fps average, ripping a dvd to h.264 mp4. I'd like to see a Mac Pro at-least match that, or come reasonably close to that...if anyone has a genuine Mac Pro and would like to test. All P45 motherboards should run 16GB of RAM, but it is massively overkill, 8GB is more than enough, and DDR2 800 ram is sufficient. Don't fall for Apple's marketing BS, you don't need 32GB of RAM. Anyone who tells you they need 16GB or 32GB of RAM is either doing some massive commercial/studio project or is a BS artist. Gigabyte P45 boards work pretty well, Asus' work best with modded BIOS'. The Q9550 is a good CPU, if you can stretch the budget a little, a Q9650 is even better.
  8. Will you still buy the real deal?

Macbook, yes. Desktop such as iMac and Mac Pro's, NO WAY! They are slow and overpriced.
  9. My Hackintosh running Retouch Artists' Photoshop Speed Test benchmark. 19.2 seconds with Timer and scree recording running in the background. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=dWRfjKE-Z3g
  10. i-Bench to test your Mac

Wrong thread! Xbench results go here. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=1395

  12. Steve Jobs Patents "The Dock"

I think the Windows taskbar is better, it doesn't really matter. I truly hope Microsoft dont't go anywhere near the dock. But what will Apple do to stop these: http://rocketdock.com/ http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/ http://www.technospot.net/blogs/circular-d...tively-desktop/
  13. Vista really isn't all that bad

Vista is great for video editing, encoding and transcoding work. Much faster than Leopard 10.5.5. There are not many useful tools on OS X, there are a ton of great tools on Vista (and XP) like megui, avisynth, vdub etc.
