Update was succesfull, but QE/CI are not working anymore after updating. You can see my specs below.

What shall I do now?

I guess it is something related to agp. Myzar had problems with it too. I'll look in to it. For now you can revert back to .9 ati kexts.

Just a word of caution - this AMD package did not work for me. Installation went fine until I rebooted causing a kernel panic. I rebooted again using the '-f' flag which worked, allowing the system get to the grey Apple boot screen. A minute or so later the system automatically rebooted itself (which is common for updates), but now it continuously hangs at the boot screen. Booting in verbose mode shows a very rapid scrolling error for "launch services error..../System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/contents/..." - but its too fast to see what is actually being shown - but it seems that the loginwindow might be the culprit.

I'm going to use another hard drive to install OS X onto, then copy the loginwindow.app over to my current install and see if that recifies the problem. However, PascalW kindly suggested on IRC to enter single user mode and copy the loginwindow off of a USB thumb drive, but to be honest my command line skills really aren't that great and even though I've googled for some simple help I'd rather not waste more time ambiguously trawling through google when installing OS X and copying a file will only take 30mins or so.

Anyway, hopefully I can resolve this problem and then I'll post back later when I've fixed the problem for future reference.

If you have somewhere a copy of your loginwindow.app I can tell you the terminal commands to copy your backup over your current loginwindow.

You say I have to copy all ATI*.kext from 10.4.9 into my Extensions folder?

Thanks, although I know how to back it up whilst in the OS itself via the terminal - just not in Single User Mode off of a thumb drive, which incidentally, will it need to be HFS formatted or will MSDOS be okay?

I suggest MSDOS musst be ok, but never tried it.

//Edit: Got QE/CI working with 10.4.9 kext's. Hope there will be a fix to use 10.4.10 kext's in future.

Downloading the 10.4.10 Intel package now, will report as necessary...

*EDIT*

Now typing this from Intel 10.4.10. The package works fine! I backed up my modified kexts, restored them, and had to install the 10.4.4 loginwindow (About this mac crashed), other than that everything seems A-Okay!

Thanks very much Pascal!

you can access terminal from a instalation dvd, as long as you have usb working with the instalation dvd you should be able to access your usb drive.
I didn't think of that :| , thanks for the tip delish!

Presumably it'd just be a case of entering the appropriate device ID into the kext(s) again wouldn't it?

Hey Moose,

Many system files are "invisible" to the finder so you'll need something like TinkerTool: http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html to make these files visible. This is one of several handy utilties that will enable you to fiddle with stuff under the hood, Cocktail is another and there is an AppleScript called Show\Hide Files that you can google for. Also can do this from the command line but that's not a strong suite for me, perhaps someone else can provide the code for that.

You'll then need to drag the kernel to the trash (you'll be asked for your administrators password) and copy over the back up of your mach_kernel then repair permissions etc., and reboot

Hope that helps.

Hi Mac-n-Cheeze, thanks for the info. I'm kind of new to the mac side of things, but have all the 'tinker toys' for the pc. I've been looking for stuff like TinkerTool and Cocktail to play around with in OSX. Thanks again.

No worries BJ! There is one other app that I've used, just couldn't think of the name last night and that's "Mac Pilot":http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php

It's a shareware - $20 and is very comprehensive. Along with Pacifist, these little utilities can be very helpful when self-installing OSX86 updates like 10.4.10.

The update on Intel works good. On the first boot, it hangs on grey apple.. but then i've restarted all seems to be ok. The only thing is that I've to edit my com.apple.Boot.plist to have 1280x1024x32 resolution on my Intel GMA950. Do you another solution for this graphic card? At the end, I've to applied the loginwindow 10.4.4 patch.

Thanks PascalW :thumbsup_anim:

EDIT: Now macdrive says the goddamn thing is corrupt! what is this {censored}?

EDIT: my little brother formatted my DVD-RW with porno so i can't recover!

EDIT: formatting the disk to NTFS and installing Virus Issues Switch To Apple Software on it. then i will download the ISO again.... and then yet another time install OSX86.

EDIT: installed vista and now downloading the isos for osx again....

I've installed 10.4.10 by following the traditional steps (replacing the kernel with the old one, some extentions, etc.).

It hanged at the first boot and I got a panic at the second one!

Does anybody know why?

Could it be related to my NVidia 7600GT?

Thanks in advance.
