    XxX_OSX86 10.4.10 Install DVD

Smoke Eater, If you still have access to the JaS 10.4.8 install then try using that IONetworkingFamily.kext, I believe it is version 1.5.0. As for sound have you tried the ALC882 AppleHDA v0.4b.mpkg? That got everything working for me. Let me know if you need additional information or help. Good Luck!

    10.4.10 Upgrade Sucessful

No worries BJ! There is one other app that I've used, just couldn't think of the name last night and that's "Mac Pilot":http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php It's a shareware - $20 and is very comprehensive. Along with Pacifist, these little utilities can be very helpful when self-installing OSX86 updates like 10.4.10.

    10.4.10 Upgrade Sucessful

Hey Moose, Many system files are "invisible" to the finder so you'll need something like TinkerTool: http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html to make these files visible. This is one of several handy utilties that will enable you to fiddle with stuff under the hood, Cocktail is another and there is an AppleScript called Show\Hide Files that you can google for. Also can do this from the command line but that's not a strong suite for me, perhaps someone else can provide the code for that. You'll then need to drag the kernel to the trash (you'll be asked for your administrators password) and copy over the back up of your mach_kernel then repair permissions etc., and reboot Hope that helps.

    8-Core Mac Pro Released

Folks, I'm not quite sure what confusion is all about... We've got contributors unhappy about the price, some questioning the real need for this kind of CPU horsepower and others bemoaning the inefficiencies of their Solar PV arrays. What's the quandary? Apple has always been about differentiation (except during the "beige years" when they tried to be just like other PC's but no one wants to dwell there) and OSX+2xQuadCore=nothing-else-like-it-on-the-market. Do we need it? Most of us, no, of course not. Do we want it? Yes, of course most of us do and BTW, when can we expect the 2x8 Core Mac Pro's? Let's face it, there's not a truck load of multiprocessor aware applications out there so it's fair to assume that Apple will be announcing upgrades to their suite of professional A/V software titles in the very near future to support/justify the need for this hardware. Make no mistake, this is by design aimed at a niche market. Full disclosure: I've been a Steve Jobs/Apple/Mac/ supporter since the very early days, not because I'm a blind fanatic but because I appreciate the opportunity to approach things in a different way, getting the job done and maybe even enjoying the experience. When Apple went Intel, I lost sleep. Intel is the equivalent of mainstream [read Satan] as far as I was concerned but now that I own a MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro (Quad Core) all with Intel CPU's I've come to realize how nonsensical my insomnia really was. The Apple experience really isn't about what or how many CPU's are under the hood, it's all about getting from "here to there" whatever that means for you and for me. Let's keep hoping that Apple continues to push the desktop and workstation computing experience (hardware + software) to places and price-points still within the realm of mere mortals and even the Pro's. Take a look at what Sun Microsystems is asking for comparable configurations and I'm sure you'll understand the very long-winded point I've been trying to make. Enjoy! mac_n_cheeze.

JaS 10.4.9 Intel SSE3 Only Combo Update

JaS, Thank you! (not sure what we'd do without ya....) Just performed the update and it went flawlessly as have all the upgrades I've performed using the JaS packages. Your instructions were straight forward and spot on. A tweak of the fsb in com.apple.Boot.plist and the CPU was back to singing along at an overclocked 3.6 GHz. The MPIP103_10.4.9.SMB.CIFS.APF.FIX has given me back the ability to use Apple File Sharing, not essential as I'd employed NFS, but a bonus none-the-less. Also, thanks to track09 for the nod toward ISOhunt. Once gain, much appreciated!!!

    X-Labs Natit Forum?

Thanks for the clarification frizbot. I spent quite a bit of time on this thread and I don't recall seeing anything too provocative. If a cease & desist was issued here then I fear for the rest of the OSX86 threads. Hopefully, this is nothing more than an admin thing and when I check back in the morning, all will be restored to normal.
