Yhe reason the people buy macs is that the os and the software are integrated well. Look at your guys machenes when you first got them to run osx on your pc boxes. It took alot of time to find drivers and find the right hardware for the job. and just doing that is why most people buy macs and not do hackintoshes cause they dont want to deal with the driver isue.

yeh there is a missing link into the Apple product line .

Apple always makes 2 kind of products:

-with the first one you almost get a super-computer but what you also get is a thin...thin wallet.Or sold your car to get that one.

-the second option is for the ones who couldnt afford the first one but they are so hot for a mac that they get it anyway so they can say "i own a mac" "its cool"

but they get shrinked ram ,a hard drive that will be full by the next day and a processor that will never compet with a same price PC procesor.

and where´s the affordable tower from Apple?like something from midle range segment.

Zealot.

I use UNIX. That's my OS of choice. I'm really kind of open about how it's implemented, my Windows Partition is integrated with a POSIX API, I run Mac OS X on two systems (The Tablet and iBook) I have 64 bit True Unix boxes all over the place and linux workstatons galore. At the moment I'm particularly fond of Mac because of the amazing hardware support.

Don't look at me crazy, hear me out.

Windows, Solaris, IRIX are all fully-closed systems. If a driver doesn't exist, it's hard to make one.

Linux FreeBSD, OpenBSD, ReactOS, etc etc etc. .

They're all open source but it's impossible to code your own drivers without extreme developer skill. With OS X, basic hardware support is available, and most of the rest is a matter of tweaking plist files - Not too challenging for most things.

To the Mac hating (Er. . Blue and green?)neck Windows lover who was posting, You'll have alot of difficulty getting me back on that OS majorly. Vista is a bug ridden overpriced peice of {censored} for most people, and XP commits Some sort of ritual suicide every 3 to 4 months. It's not a good platform for stability. While I'd love to use SGI and Sun computers more, The OS is essentially non-portable (Even the open source versions) and the hardware is specific to the top-end desktop and server market. No tablets for me there. Other Free UNIX implementations (Including Darwin) Are great! OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Darwin and linux are wonderful! But their hardware support is imperfect, as is OS X's. . and fixing that hardware support is much harder. (less so Darwin, but still. . )

On the subject of the original post. . . Front-ends to youtube and similar seem usually a waste of money to me. I bought a licence for TubeSock, a YT Video downloader and encoder, but That was $15 and I tested the trial first. Woohoo, we saw a video but few people are going to bother pre ordering it. Some will buy it, sure - Because they have a good use for it. Not me, so I won't.

One guy was criticising paid software in genereal - Why pay for something you can get free? Because it helps support the economy, competition, and innovation. Alot of Open-Source software takes ideas from commercial software which wouldn't be around without people licensing it.

For example the Gimp. I love that software, and use it for any art I do. I wouldn't license PhotoShop or PSP because I don't need them, but for some people they're worth the investment and I'm all for that.

My father uses Office 2003? Why? Because it works best for him. It has features that OO.o doesn't. They're important for his work and that's great. Go him, and go Microsoft! Good company, bad software.

Let's be honest. Almost no-one who buys this sotware will preorder it. And lets be honest, most of what I just wrote had nothing to do with anything. This is because it's 10 past 1, I'm nackered and I'm going to sleep. Goodnight!

Well, Personally. I like MACS and have used them in pro audio suites, however, they do crash, just like PC's, although OSX has been the most stable.

That said, I expect that your average "joe" that can put together a PC and install hardware, software and OSX to boot is what Apple users would call IT Specialists.

2nd. Due to the minority of Apple share vs Microsoft, many PC users are always WOWED (vista, ? naaah) at things CREATED on a MAC and after playing with OSX more, I see that it is quite easy to APPEAR to be a PRO CREATOR when using templates from iLIFE of MOTION, whereas the PC has no such thing, at least not until now (Vista).

So, in a sense, MAC users are to some extent stupid on a technical side of things, however, with THAT said, I can honestly say that the MACS really are good machines now. The days though of PORTIBLE STUDIOS with a crappy G4 compliments of sweetwater or WATER COOLED G5's, were way underpowered compared to PC's - this is not the case today. They are priced fairly decent, EXCEPT the macbook and its POOR GPU, and anything under $1499.00, there is a gap that they need to fix. Todays laptops are priced much more competitive as well as desktops running duo core 2 with any GPU you want, APPLE needs to fill in that gap.

Other than that, the higher end prices are a good bang for the buck and you have to wonder with some of the VISTA requirment if APPLE will have to update the MACBOOK let alone change some of the commercials. I think it would be funny to have a MSFT commercial similar to HI I'm a MAC and have the VISTA say me too....

Why are users so stupid? Such suckers? I can't figure it out.

This is the downside of "It just works." If something "just works" and that

for over a few years, users stop using Brain 1.0.

Every Windows user becomes an expert over the years, just because there

is so much to patch, fix and optimize.

what? the average apple user is not the smart ones (although there are alot) i walk into an apple store and listen to the people and how they react to the sales pitches, and people are like WOW you can send VIDEO! (its called a webcam...) and then shes like can anyone accccess this? and can people see it all the time? and a bunch of other dumb questions.... and the same with the people who have macs and go to the genius bar (not all of them, some)

id have to say you need to know more to run xp/vista than osx, because its not dumbed down, and there are problems with it (yes thats not a good thing)

Horrible topic.. There is far too much ignorance & stupidity in the world in general, and I believe it is curable through education. Intelligence is developed through thinking & thinking is a habit that takes practice..

I think the only thing that separates the Apple using morons from the others is the fact that they can afford the hardware..

Finally, as a counterpoint to the OP.. on my recent oddysey in search of BonziBuddy, I came across several people who actually bought and paid for that software.. now there is stupidity.

I used to waste countless days and nights fixing things on Windows - especially hardware installations, struggling with dodgy drivers and over-complexified but half-arsed software. All that because of stuff I needed just to be compatible with a fellow musician or a client. Then I got back on the Mac - irritated and exhausted - and thought, blimey I could have spent that time producing a couple of tracks, editing a video or designing an album cover. Sitting there behind the Mac, I felt utterly stupid for having wasted all that time in Windows...

I always thought computer systems have the purpose to help humans accomplishing certain tasks and not the other way around. But that's probably a stupid thought.

This example of Apple could be extended to a lot of software companies. Why do they sometimes tend to think that we're such a stupid bunch of people to be ripped off so easily?

Because Apple has been doing this forever, and the Apple zealots keep buying over and over. I have a friend who has owned every version of the iPod and almost every new Mac that has come out over the last 5 or 6 years. Why? Because he needed them? No, because Steve Jobs said it was cooler and better than the previous version, so my dufus friend had to go out and buy it.

So in answer to your question, as to why Apple feels like its customers are so stupid to be ripped off so easily, it's because they have a long history of being so stupid that they could be ripped off easily.

Think about this. Apple used to say that Microsoft was the enemy, then they allied with them. Mac users were pissed for about a week, then Steve Jobs schmoozed them over in his usual lying way, and they fell back in line.

Then they switched to Intel processors. AND they started running Windows. These two things should have Mac users chasing Steve Jobs with torches after all the {censored} he has said about how bad both of these things were, and yet, after a little schmoozing, Steve talked them back into it.

So you see, Steve Jobs thinks that he can talk Mac users into anything at this point, and they'll believe it. Either they're stupid enough to believe it, or they're brainwashed enough, and either way, Jobs doesn't care.

So they'll keep making upgrades you don't need to buy, and pricing hardware and software higher than it should be, and all the Apple fans will just keep lining up to buy it and they'll do it with smiles on their faces, too.
