Hehe, the number of people saying "leave omni alone, don't ask" and that seems to outweigh the number of people actually asking. Of course people are going to ask, that's natural. Omni doesn't have to (and I'm sure doesn't) read their requests - unless they're PMs, of course, which is perhaps nasty.
Omni: please create a new thread when the alpha driver is released, so everyone will be able to see it quite clearly without sifting through masses of junk.

Actually I do know where the driver will be, and I will post a link to the site once I put some pages up. That site will be the only point of contact for it and I will stop posting here anything related to the driver or answer any future questions about it. It will also be the only intended location to download it from as well.

Why not have a thread that is marked read only and oly omni or other ati driver project contributors can post news? This is the way for all the people that need to know what is the current status of development without having to read all the wishes and whining. Go to forums read the damn read-only thread containing useful info, end of story.
@omni : the web site idea is just great. Post the news there if any - thats it.

I'm going to see if I can annoy a certain *somebody* to test drive this driver. I was able to test JaS's original alpha skeleton ATi driver. I'm not a total idiot.

Once again, I still cannot believe the behavior of some of the people on these forums.
Omni is working his butt off to get something done for us for free...and you're bashing him for not doing it the way you want it to be done.
He is NOT going to release the source code to the driver he has made. He has explained time and time again for why he isn't releasing the code. I wish you guys would just grow up and read an entire thread. After all, this thread is (currently) at only 8 pages, unlike other threads like X700 and other PCIE ATI Radeon Finally Works, which, by the way, is an excellent guide of how you can get your card to work.
I am among a wide base of people who are eagerly awaiting Omni's driver...but you don't see me spamming the forum with "plz release the alpha driver omni plz. and you're an idiot for not giving us your source code." Your spam won't speed up the driver release...unless you really want a buggy driver.

I love "really buggy driver" or unfinished and hate to start from scratch this is why I made and release the P-ATA UDMA6 driver for NVIDIA and ATI chipset based on the EXCELLLENT work of Scousi...

ok:
1) omni's reasons for not releasing his source have been outlined many times in this thread alone.
2) his reasons are his own, and he has every right to keep his source to himself. actually he has every right to keep the binaries to himself, too. I'm hoping this doesnt happen.
3) if this doesnt stop, i'm going to close this thread. its serving very little purpose, as omni has already stated he wont post any updates here.

For all the MacOSX specialists. Sometimes my macosx boots in safe mode. I have an ati card which has the tearing with a normal boot, but when i'm in safe mode there is no tearing in sight. Has this to do with graphical systems(QE,CI) not being loaded?
Otherwise this could somehow help in a simple tearing fix while omni hasn't released the driver.
I'm too unfamiliar with macosx to find this out myself.
Omni, thx for the great work on the driver!

Koen it's normal = mouse tearing disappear when no QE+CI
the workaround already exist : Mouseposé or Mouselocator

Zappadoc: No offense, but if you want to help people get a driver so badly, why not dedicate a little time to making one yourself. Omni proved that it isn't impossible for somebody to read up and get results over time.
This topic has 8 pages of spam and maybe one or two useful posts within the mix. It's serving little purpose and becomming a constant chore for moderators to clean it out. I know Omni was trying to extend a bit of gentlemanly courtesy in allowing people to freely criticize him with their impatient attitudes, but enough is enough.
As Omni stated, the driver release will be announced. It'll be available at one specific source. I think that's all that needs to be said at this point.

Takuro: As you may notice in Zappadoc's sig, he has in fact created and released a chipset driver, based on Darwin sources. Thus he *has* dedicated time to creating a driver, and understands what its like for driver writers within this community.
Zappadoc: Nothing you can do or say (short of writing your own driver) can help people get omni's driver any faster. He has already decided he does not want to release the source. As a driver writer yourself, you have to respect that decision. You may not agree with it, but there's certainly no need to suggest closing the forum, or of 'giving up'. Releasing the source has been suggested to omni many times, the benefits have been pointed out to him, and he's decided against it. There is no value in raising that question again and again.
My post about closing this thread was not aimed specifically at you, nor was it a reaction to the question of releasing source. Mostly, it was about people asking the same questions which have already been answered time and time again in this very thread.
No need to take things personally man. Your input is valued here, as is everyone's, but you must understand that we're trying to keep a friendly, readable and interesting forum here, and moderating that can be trying at times.

It's sad to see this kind of discussion.
We are a community, trying to go the same way. I do respect Omni work, even if I haven't any clue about what he is doing.
If he want to release, so do he... If he release nothing, we haven't lost anything at all.
It would be nice to have an ATI drivers project under GNU licencing, it's not... ok.
It isn't a reason to close this forum anyway.
Perhaps, others ATI drivers projects will rise one day or another.
