Dunno, I tried his script (just for installing it on the EFI partition, nothing else) for my GA-P35-DS3L and it ruined the whole install. It KP's whenever I try booting from the HDD, and using a Chameleon 2 RC3 disc makes the screen flash and not work. Not that it's a bad script, it's just one that won't work for everyone.

 

Anyways, I was following this tutorial, and I couldn't get it to work really either. Once I got to the testing part, it would say "boot0: error". Most people said I had to mark the partition as active, and I followed the tutorial again, and no luck. I then tried another tutorial on activating partitions, and although it was basically the same thing, it then made the computer display nothing whenever I tried booting from it.

 

ok I wanna help with DD's script not working for you. I think your problem involves the smbios.plist in the extra's folder.

The two keys below represent variables that left unchecked, could make your non-core(i7) computer KP. Make sure if you dont have core-i7, that you make SMmemtype at 19. Also make sure your mac model is not MacPro4,1 which is for i7 but MacPro3,1 which is for non i7.

Hi everyone,

 

Forgive me for backtracking but I've only just stumbled into the whole retail install craze, and I'm hoping to get it working properly on Leopard 10.5.4 before I mess with Snow. I'm on the final steps and want to make sure I do this correctly.

 

I modified the boot-132 iso to include the voodoo 9.4.0 kernel/system.kext and have successfully installed Leopard and updated to 10.5.4. In addition to this thread I have been using this thread, as well as this tutorial, and have downloaded the suggested Chameleon for Hard Disk and EFI Studio. I also have the voodoo kernel release 1.0 from xnu-dev and the accompanying documentation.

 

My understanding is that I should be able to copy my Extras/ folder from my boot disk to the Chameleon installer and then install it. I should then be able to update my kernel using the xnu-dev installer package.

 

Is this correct? I feel like a noob asking, but it's taken me a long time to get to this point, and I don't want to have to reinstall AGAIN...

I 'deprecated' this method only because Chameleon 2 should be able to do everything this bootloader can do. If this one works better for some people, then of course keep using it. Software doesn't rot, after all

It looks to me like you guys did not do the $30 upgrade to Snow Leopard EFI boot edition. munky's EFI method works in Snow Leopard, you just need the new Chameleon!

 

 

Use this script to create a full munky EFI for Snow Leopard and old Leopard for any PC! AUTOMATICALLY! Link!

 

If you have a non-core-i7 chip then you need to use the script to edit your smbios.plist entry that has macpro;41 and change that to macpro;31 . You insert your kexts that you need in the folders and get others that you need from the repository.

 

Enter buildcache in -s single user mode after you restart when installing SL with old leopard.

Basically, same kext whether on boot-132 or bootloader functions the same. Are you sure that both options are exactly the same?

hey just a question, i did everything as said in the guide.

I am currently trying to get snowy work on vmware, and it does quite well with sound, networking etc.

but i am stuck on the graphicsEnabler which is possible (qe,ci).

I am stuck on the EFI installation in order to get the Boot.plist to work.

I put the kext from the darwin_snow.iso in the EFI partition but everytime I reboot the machine it ends up in VMWare telling me it is not Snow Leopard Server and Vmware will power off

any clues on what i did wrong ?

i used efi 5.1 and 6.1 no luck so far

I've followed the tuto but i got a weird problem ...

 

at boot up, i keep on getting that :

Boot0: GPT
Boot0: HFS+
Boot0: booting
Boot0: done
Non-system disk
Press any key to reboot

 

I've followed the instructions twice, but still no luck ... Any idea on how to resolve that ?

 

(ps : i'm on slow leo 10,6,4 build 10F564 and GUID partitionned)

Dear Munky, i admire a lot your domination of the mac partitions, and the conseguent ability to do what you want of them...

 

But, as an absolute noob, I started to study the differences between GPT, MBR, efi and stuff...I used to move discretely well in the win deployment, but here... gosh... everything seems to have conseguences I can't do anything about.

 

My problem (as obviously I have one ;-) )

 

installed 10.6.0 through this boot cd, which is the only on that worked with my laptop

followed your guide dozens of times... had frequently problems with unmounting the partition...

 

I even tried the automatic version, the EPOS script...

I now manage to install all the kext I need, but I can't boot from my shiny EFI, containing everything I think to need for a brilliant 5.1 macbook, with graphics and everything...

 

BUT...

 

 

every bloody time I reboot, no matter what I struggle to do,

I receive this message:

 

boot0: GPT

boot0: error

 

I know everything in the EFI partition is in order, cause I've been studying for weeks,

but I can't manage to make boot0 to read the partition and load the boot manager.

 

Please, tell me where i'm wrong. I think it had to do with mounting and unmounting, which erases the data in EFi, but how can I work on it if I don't mount?

And, other BIG problem, upon reboot I ALWAYS see the EFI partition, again, no matter waht I do.

 

I read guides since weeks now, but I can't still complete this operation.

Packard Bell TJ65 (found all the kexts, apple.com.boot, smbios and graphic ID stings I need for it)

 

640gb HDD, 2 partitions: HFS+ and FAT32 (and stupidly mounted EFI), GPT, with the intention to install win 7 in the second partition, but for now just a stupid FAT32 partition laying there...

I too use this method with the chameleon bootloader. Its nice to know what your doing incase it gets messed up with an update.

Can anyone confirm if this method will work on a 1tb internal Hdd? I used boot123 to install Snow Leopard (retail), installed chameleon bootloader v3 and all I get is boot0: gpt, boot0: testing, boot0: failed. I looked at many guides, tried different partition patterns but always the same result. I know it's my 1tb Hdd because I ran the same install on a 160gb Hdd an it worked. I'm running out of ideas and this is my last attempt so any feedback would be appreciated.

Before doing anything else, you should try a more recent version of the Chameleon boot loader.

 

Several people have reported issues with Chameleon and +1TB hard drives.

 

I haven't paid much attention because I haven't had this problem myself (I don't have any drives larger than 500GB), so all I can say is visit the VoodooProjects forum and look around in the bug reports and general forums for a solution.

 

But again, try Chameleon 2.0 RC5 first, this might have been taken care of by now. V3 is very very old.
