Rosetta and Driver Upgrades; New Build is Leaked

We've received unconfirmed reports concerning a few interesting new toys under the hood of OSx86 10.4.3, including a vastly improved Rosetta and brand new ATI drivers - each far more complete than in previous builds.

First, the Rosetta emulation platform in 10.4.3 build 8F1111A has been upgraded to feature full G4 support, including Altivec. This not only adds a new layer of compatibility to Rosetta, but also improved speed for Altivec-equipped applications. This upgrade is reportedly available as a small downloadable update to build 8F1111.

Also, new ATI drivers available in 10.4.3 seem to offer much greater support for PC ATI graphics chipsets. Preliminary reports indicate that they may support most of the 9000 line, and parts of the X series, including mobile chipsets. Apparently NVIDIA systems have not been given this treatment. Is this discrepancy simply due to the pace of driver porting at Apple, or will ATI graphics hold a special place in the Mactel world?

On a side note, the weekend brought a newly leaked copy of OSx86 10.4.3 build 8F1111, the most recent seed from Apple. This seed, with its universal binary of iTunes, is a newer version than the build which was recently cracked.

can someone please post the ati drivers... i dont want to get the new build a i have 10.4.1 with the 10.4.3 framework working perfectly

The 10.4.3 drivers will not work on the 10.4.1 kernel. You need the full 10.4.3 if you want the new ATi support.

I have 8F1099 and can post it, but where are they located ?

Essentials.pkg

But as I say, it's pointless trying to use them on 10.4.1.

i am a little confused and seeking some help. i installed the deadmoo on a vmware partition with little problems. i installed the changes from maxxus and dd'd the image to another drive. this drive booted without a hitch on a thinkpad T30 and a hp pavilion zt3000. i tried to install from the cd for 1099 with no luck. i just completed a download of 1111 and i am anxious to help out with some of the porting stuff. i have read the stuff for 1111 and maxxus working on the changes to make a bootable cd image. i was wondering if it is possible to mount my drive from the laptop to my g5 through usb and copy off the stuff from the dmg? once this is done i want to find out what it would take to setup the drivers to support my 1920x1200 resolution. i would be very grateful to anyone who could assist.

So what is the deal with Rossetta supporting Altivec now? Is this unconfirmed or what?

Is anybody else surprised to see Apple trying to do this?

My developer said that he tested Altivec apps and they did not run with Altivec and XBench didn't show any improvements while running in Rosetta in the Altivec portion of the test. So basically someone made up a HUGE hoax that Rosetta supported Altivec, which means no it's not true.

Can you verify if 8f1111A could be an internal MAC release?

Here's the ATI Radeon 9700 drivers from 8f1111. [Removed for DMCA compliance]

HI

Can you post the driver for radeon 9800 too?

I have updated the 10.4.1 to the 10.4.3 and then I've deleted all the ati*.kext file and put the ati.kext from jas. But I think I have made a big mistake doing this.

Does apple ever append a letter to the end? Typically an update would be like 8f1112 or they'd restart at 8g....

Anyway.

Yes Apple appends an A to the end of minor updates, but there is NO 8F1111A as far as my dev or I knows.

I've been testing 8F1111 with Maxxus's patched oah750 and oah750d taken from build 8F1099.

My impression is : It looks stable, however, iTunes won't start up (it pops up an 'unknown error -50' message) and several x86 applications (not the ones bundled with the OS) crash unexpectedly due to

BAD_INSTRUCTION or BAD_ACCESS followed by a hex digit. (At least that's what it says in the CrashReporter). Anybody experiencing the same problems ?

How did you go about installing 8f111 with those old patches? I have the dmg file... what do I do from there?

I know why... You didn't install your OS in english :)

If you read the informations of the file "iTunes" in the folder applications, go to langages and uncheck all of the langages, and just keep english.

Then iTunes will work :(

Thank you very much Tetu! Infact I installed OSX in a language different from english.

Well this certainly makes more sense to me than Rosetta supporting Altivec. Do to the fact that Atlivec beats the {censored} out of SSE3, it really makes no sense to emulate it and that logic likely applies to automatic translation as well. Furthermore, Apple had seemed to make it clear that Altivec was dead as far as OS X is concerned and otherwise only G3 emulation by Rosseta.

ya, patching 1111 directly after converting it makes it unbootable. vmware gives this error in debug mode:

*** VMware Workstation internal monitor error ***

vcpu-0:ASSERT vmcore/vmm/cpu/segment.h:444 bugNr=19580

There is a problem in this version of VMware Workstation.

We rely on your feedback to improve the quality of our product. Please submit a support request that describes the problem at our Web page "http://www.vmware.com/info?id=8".
