Leo4allv3 finished and released

apowerr

Version 3 of eddie11c's popular Leo4all release has been uploaded to a private ftp, and should appear 'around' shortly. Leo4all is a 'universal' release and works on AMD and Intel. The official release notes are attached, here are the highlights:

First and most importantly is a totally rebuilt filesystem. The advantage with this is I no longer had to script a repair permissions from the DVD. This speeds install a good bit for most people. Don't worry if the timer says some outrageous time, as it does not calculate it correctly. The initial package install is very large and takes the most time, but once its done the install is almost done. I still recommend running repair permissions from Leopard once your all loaded up to fix some errors, but none of these will stop the system from booting. If you run it twice you should see zero errors on Intel and 2 SUID files on AMD. There is an install script that crashes on AMD machines causing this, but to keep everything perfect on intel I chose to leave the script intact.

This DVD now supports AHCI with more than 2 drives thanks to the updated kext's posted by Cyclonefr.

Also fixed this go around is X11 for both Intel and AMD. If, when you close it the first time, cpu usage jumps to 100% open terminal and type xeyes & to fix it. You will need to reboot after, but it should never glitch again.

There is no longer a ./RemoveVideo script, it has been updated and is now called ./options.

ACPIPlatform:

1.1.0 or 1.2.1. Included in each is ACPIPS2Nub to fix PS2 issues.

AppleSMBIOS:I put in lots of choices for different versions based on bus speed if you want it to show your proper memory speed, or if you want your hack to look like a real mac. The default install if nothing is selected is Netkas improved version 27.

Options are:

DDR667

DDR800

DDR1066

DDR1333

iMac

MacBook

MacPro

Kernel:

I have added Netkas 9.2.0 sleep kernel, and 9.2.2 binpatched kernel ny Modbin(Be warned this does not work on all AMD machines! SSE3 CPU is required!). The default install is still Netkas 9.2.0 speedstep kernel. There are also the Stock kernels(vanilla) 9.2.0/9.2.2

RemoveFireWire:

For those that have issues with FireWire, or those that just want to speed their boot time a little. This moves all of the IOFireWire kext's to /FireWire folder in the root of your install drive.

About This Mac:

This is my own little installer to customize "About this Mac" with your processor info. No it does not fix memory speed, you have to do that with AppleSMBIOS. It should work for all languages and should report overclocked CPU's properly.

Power Management:

By popular demand I added the laptop power management bundle to the install. You will still need to set it up in system preferences. This is known to have a few minor bugs. It may not report the proper time remaining or any time remaining for that matter, so use at your own risk. If you select this please do not select an ACPIPlatform, as this requires version 1.1.0.

AMD System Fix:

You will notice it is checked and greyed out by default. To take out alot of user error (people forgetting to check it for their AMD systems) I have added a script to detect the CPU and patch accordingly. When its running it will echo your processor information in the install log (if you show all). It will then skip the patch process if your on Intel or patch if its an AMD. I hope it works well for everyone!

Bootloader:

This option is checked and greyed out by default. It is Dense's script to install EFI and make the partition active. If you already have an existing bootloader (like from Vista) on the same logical drive it will not overwrite it. It will however flag the partition you installed to active, so you will have to manually set your Windows partition active again if needed.

Chipset Drivers:

(NOTE- JMicron is the only driver that always installs so please choose at least 1 option, some will have to choose 2 [if you have Marvell IDE and Intel SATA for example] ) If your not sure you can click all but 1 Nforce, as they will overwrite each other.

Nforce Old - This is the older version of Medevils Nforce(1.0.2) driver. Install this if you have issues with SATA enabled causing a panic. Known to work for some Nforce3 users.

Nforce Test- If you have a SATA DVD or do not have issues booting the DVD normally choose the NforceTest.

SiliconImage3132 - I have not found anyone that uses this specific chipset to confirm if it works.

VIA, SiS, Marvell and SB - Please install this if you are using any of these chipsets. If you have a Marvell IDE drive please install this as they should be supported. I have added many ID's here so I hope they all work! This chioce installs AppleVIAATA, AppleOnboardPCATA and AppleGenericPCATA. Confirmed working for SiS!

SAS - By request I added support for this, as of my writing this its untested. Hopefully it works.

Intel ICHx- If you have ICH7/8/9 chipsets you should install this. This is the modified version by -Dune- to support more than 2 drives and fix the over 2Gigs of RAM panics.

Audio:

These choices have not changed much, only added support for STAC9271 by request. If your not sure what chipset you have, please choose AzaliaAudio(for most HD) or AC97Audio.

Choices are:

ALC850/882/883/888/889

AC97Audio

ADI1988

STAC9271

AzaliaAudio

Graphics Drivers:

I have updated many of these packages.

ATI- there are options for:

3850

3870

2600XT(PCIE)

2600XT(AGP)

3870X2

2600PRO(PCIE)

2600PRO(AGP)

X1600(PCIE)

X1600(AGP)

X19X0

X1400 Mobility

Nvidia- I have updated the drivers to the latest available from the Mac Pro's and edited to include all Device ID's I could verify. This should cover mostly all 6XXX/7XXX/8XXX series cards. (List of ID's found in attached release notes)

NVinject- By request I have added options for different version of Nvinject(0.1.3/0.2.0/0.2.1). If your not sure choose version 0.2.1 with the proper amount of RAM your video card. I have added a modified version of 0.2.1 for 1Gig of VRAM.

GMA950 - QE/CI+resolution change with some artifacts

GMA950 - No Aritfacts QE/CI but no resolution.

GMAX3100 - suppose to give QE/CI(confirmed for device ID 0x2a02)

Network Drivers:

ForceDeth- This is compatible with most Nforce LAN.

ForceDeth-V - This is compatible with most Nforce LAN(recommended version)

Skge - Driver for most Marvell LAN cards.

RTL8187- Just as it says for Realtek 8187

Zydas USB- For the USB Wireless LAN adapter

Tiger IO80211- Some Atheros cards require this Tiger version to work. Default install is IO80211 from 10.5.2

Broadcom- WLAN driver for BCM4306/4309/4318/4320/4324

RT2500- Suppose to support Dlink WMP54G v4.0, may support some others.

ViaRhine- Just as it says, for ViaRhine chipsets

Intel 100Pro VE- Just as it says, for the Intel 100Pro VE chipset

RT2860- Driver for some chipsets like WL-181, may also work on some others.

Good Applications:

You can choose to install or not, but I do recommend many of these useful programs. They include:

Adium

AppZapper

BBEdit

CandyBar

Colloquy

FireFox

Gumby 50c

Invisibles

KCNScrew

KextHelper

Marvin's AMD Utility

MD5

Pacifist

PackageMaker version 2.1(old harder to find)

Stuffit Expander

Textmate

Transmission

TubeSock

Unison

VLC

Xbench

The Official Leo4all Wiki can be found here.

The mentionedAbout This Mac CPU information installer is an absolute gem! Thanks for all of the hard work eddie11c: I can't (and I know many of you can't either) wait to try this out :thumbsup_anim:

Hi,

Thanks for the good work for Leo4all-V3

Mobo P5e WS Pro works 95%, need assistance for the remaining 5%

I have here:

P5E WS Pro (x38) / Q6700 (2.66GHz/3.6GHz) / 4GB RAM

3 SATA HD (AHCI) / 2 PATA CD / DVD

I have installed Leo4All-V3 (Vanilla 9.2.2) with SATA-DVD (pata not successfully)

It works so far everything without problems, up to two things

1) The two pata CD/DVD are not recognized. Did i forget something with the installation?

2) Leo does not make a complete shutdown, but only "halted".

With W2k3/Vista no problem.

For me a solution with my pata CD/DVD would be important.

I would not like to buy new SATA CD/DVD.

Someone has an idea ?

Thank you for each assistance.

I think your problem is the Jmiron controller for your PATA drives. I do not know of a fix for this, perhaps someone else with the same motherboard can chime in.

:hysterical: On starting the DVD with Leo4allv3 I receive the error message: system config file'/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found.

My mobo:MSI P965 Platinum with one Ultra DMA IDE Controller and SATA II controller integrated in JMicron JMB361 . Is this the problem? What can I do about it?

The problem is being caused by that nasty jmicron controller I have a asus p5k deluxe mod with the j micron controller and it was giving me that same error. There are many solutions to the problem the best 1 being if you have an extra pc around the house and installing the Osx on it and then putting the hard drive back to the pc that has the jmicron controller once the OS is installed the jmicron controller is supported and the drivers are loaded by default this worked for me. The other options are sata connected drives most of the work if you have the hdic or something like that selected on the bios. Or usb drives they work 2. I'm not 100 percent Shure but I think that if you have a sata DVD rom you don't really need a sata hard drive because once the installer is loaded onto the ram it loads up the jmicron controller driver. My inglish sucks ass but I hope this works 4r u.

Does it Support for Nforce 560 chipsets? I had an HP Pavillon dv2715nr and all v1 and v2 did not recognize the hard drive.

Any luck? I have the same laptop and had to install previous versions to an external USB drive. I ended up not using it for this reason as I'm on the road a lot. Let me know.

Got a question, do the ACPIPlatform have anything to do with the Sleepfunction ? Or is it all Kernel dependent ?

I could wake up from sleep with leo version 1 fine, but with version 3 I only wake up to a bluescreen.

Using amd with the 9.2 sleep kernel. Any ideas? thanks.

Ahhhhhhh kitmac, thank you so much.

I brought a Netgear GA311 card today for $23 and it works perfectly.

For the first time since I used to run osx on pearpc and all the time I've spent trying to get x86 builds to work on computers throughout the last 3 years I finally have a fully working version of osx to enjoy.

Thanks again for your help.

Still trying some different things with the Nforce 560. Will post an update once some progress is made,so far not much luck.

Hi Eddie, strange thing is the old kext can recognize and read NTFS v3.01 with out video/system hang. It does not support any other file system even FAT32. I try to re-partiton my HD and using USB HD leopard system to run and the system hang after every partition I click to access to it (I had 2 NTFS partitions, so system hang 2 times when I click to access to those partitions) after that the system works normally.

A cent's info. if it could help you to find a solution for Nforce 560. Thx!

That would be great for the nforce 560 users :P As I said before, I have it installed on an external USB drive, but having to have that drive on a laptop defeats the purpose as I am on a plane or in an airport twice a week.

Well, I am hard-headed and tried it again.... just ran it with little or no add ins and it came up. Yay :)

However, no sure how to correct the few problems left...no audio (Creative audicy 2zs), no network (intel pro100v), and no setup for display (verto 7300gs nvidia).

Any assistance would be appreciated.

BTW Eric, nice job on this, I'm just slow :P I'll try to find the info on the above problems. Kinda new to Linux-based stuff.

Best regards

Hey Will

Sound like we have the same configuration - but I dont have the Nvidia card - mine is an ATI X300SE, we have similar problems.

Eddie was kind enough to point me in the right direction, you'll need to load the right chipset drivers for the system, in my case it was VIA-SB and the Intel drivers (via 3rd party in customization menu).

There is supposedly a fix floating around here for the Broadcomm onboard nic, I spent a couple of hours reading today, and in the end decided to stop rotting my time and to buy a compatible network card. Cost me all of $7.99, the sound card is a lost cause as well, so I got myself a USB sound card for $11.99.

Of course it didn't stop there, the kid in the candy store took over and approx $125 later...

I know as someone else pointed out "where is the fun in that" meaning getting a workaround product - the same question could be asked of bashing your head up against a wall.

HI!

Know what you mean about the candy store.... Well I now have the video working. Looks good. However, no joy on the ethernet card or the sound card (the Audigy 2 ZS is incompatible as far as I have been able to determine). So your solution would probably work. Wondered what ethernet card you purchased. I'll check and see which ones will work.

Thanks!

Hey Eddie....I really have to thank you for this Wonderful release..just installed ....most things are working great...

The few that aren't are here:

1. If I have my USB mouse connected WHILE I am booting then it doesnt work. (while booting it tells me "couldn't get device to stop within 100ms") This was the issue that was there with the v2 release as well.

2. The same problem with my Wacom Tablet (I guess the root of this issue is the same as above 'cause the the Tablet is detected as a HID/mouse at boot).

3. Nvidia card isn't working fully (gives me full rez options but doesn't detect secondary monitor on my dual monitor setup) or sometimes just doesn't work and keeps the rez stuck at 1024x768.

4. My SoundMAX audio isn't working fully (with Azilla audio my Mic In port is detected as the Audio out). Others who have no audio check your speakers at different ports coz the drivers my have the ports swapped.

My Ethernet card (VIA Rhine) is finally working (I am so happy :thumbsup_anim: ). It took me time to figure out my settings (I have never networked on mac).

well if any one else is having that problem ...here's the solution ...if not ...well... good for you...

I have a NetGEAR WGR614 v7 Ethernet+Wireless router. When I set my comp to receive the settings via DHCP, my router provided useless settings (my ip was given as 169.128.154.0) so I put it manual settings and put these settings

IP: 192.168.1.(anything between 2-255)

Subnet mask: 255.255."255".0

Router: the ip of your router (usually 192.168.0.1/192.168.1.1)

DNS Server: the DNS settings provided by your ISP

and ITS AHHLLIIVE....:lol

Hey if anyone could help me with the usb mouse problem i'd be greatful coz I use my Tablet all the time and would love it to work ...

Thanks a million again eddie...love your work...

Ciao.

:o Success!!! I got the baby working using a 3Com 905B NIC and an old iMic for sound. Thanks Eric!

I do have a strange error. I am using the digital output of my nvidia 7300gs and the system reports that there is no monitor attached. I also cannot get the unit to play DVDs. It says it has no valid display to show the movie. It will play downloads, however. Any ideas?

Again, thanks Eric!

Hi all !

This would be a great release... but i have some minor problems with it. My config is Intel t2310 with 2 gigs of ram, its an HP 6720 ethernet is intel 82562gt wifi is 3945ABG, graf x3100, vista 32bit sp1. So after the install i got to the registration and it loops and would not get to the desktop, only repeats the registration process. Any solution could be great. And does anybody know if my ethernet could work on it too?

HI!

Ran into the same problem.... I had turned off the Firewire (don't have one with my mobo)... The system asks if you want to copy from another Mac.... then restarts the registration.... :)

Redid the distro with the firewire left on. Problem went away.

Hope this helps!

I... LOVE... YOU...

Finally have audio working on my Abit IP35Pro. Everything's working like a charm except sleep. I installed with the sleep kernel, but it won't wake. The computer seems to wake, but the screen, keyboard, and mouse are MIA. I'm running a Q6600, 4 gigs of ram at 800mhz, sata hdd and dvd, and a Geforce 8600 256 with the aforementioned mobo. Anybody know if this is a kext thing or a bios thing?
