Yesterday brought news that Google’s Chief Executive Officer, Eric Schmidt, has been appointed to Apple’s board.

Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying “We look forward to his contributions as a member of Apple’s board of directors. Like Apple, Google is very focused on innovation and we think Eric’s insights and experience will be very valuable in helping to guide Apple in the years ahead.”

The move suggests a growing alliance between the two companies, as Schmidt joins Apple- a company he describes as “one of the companies in the world I most admire”.

Schmidt became Google CEO in 2001, after previously working for both Novell and Sun.

Gmail works with mail, and iCal can sync with gcal. Back and forth editing would be nice.

i was thinking and it would be great to have some sort of syncing with gmail so it could be used as an internet harddrive like .mac apple could really take advantage of googles massive amounts of storage..but if anything we might get to see some of their lab applications ported to google sooner

GREAT NEWS!

It really reinforces this alliance that people have been wondering about - remember the keynote:

"All they can do is copy Google and Apple"

Hmmmmm.......

A match made in heaven. Apple and Google are the innovators of "cool" new technologies, so this can only be a good thing.

I smell the scent of a .Mac replacement... Hope I'm right! With Microsoft having .Mac like abilities with their upcoming LifeDrive, free, Google have the resources and tecnology with their GMail storage etc to make a .Mac service.

Wow - I like the idea of a google .mac replacement.

Im not sure Google OS would be MacOS but perhaps it would be the first OS to be offered by Apple on a Mac other than MacOS - Who knows.
