Do you Guru?

We're looking for the few, the proud... the Gurus among us.

This week we're launching a brand new (and as far as I'm aware, unique) idea for creating discussion and assistance within our community. It's called the "Guru Project." Here's what it entails:

Nominations will be taken for outstanding members of our community. These are folks that you love to see posts from - the ones that are kind, helpful, and just fun to be around in general.

What sets these people apart is that they're passionate about something. Maybe it's Photography. Web Design. OSx86. If we've got an area of this forum dedicated to it, we want to help them channel that passion for the community.

If the nomination for a guru is accepted, their responsibility is to post as much good info as they can in order to help keep the community up-to-date with what's happening in their corner of the tech world. They'll also be available (along with the rest of the forum) to offer some help if someone needs assistance. If they love video creation, they'll post any great video creation tools, articles, or links that they come across. If they're an expert in one of the busier forums, like OSx86, their job will be to help sort information, make an FAQ, etc.

This will easily be the most prestigious position on our forum and one that will help the community a great deal (it also comes with some nice forum perks, like an unlimited PM box, etc). It's an honor that we won't give lightly. We'd like you to nominate those InsanelyMac-ers who have helped you along the way and who help keep things interesting.

As an example, let me introduce our first guru, lambsporriegetta. Since the beginning of March, lambsporriegetta has been updating a list in the Audio forum of the latest Universal audio plugins. He's also been quite helpful in other forums and has continued posting new and interesting material for months. He's one of those guys that I know by name and has earned my respect (the audio forum was his idea!). It's because he's shown a real interest in making InsanelyMac the best it can be that we confer our first title to him.

But there are many more out there who are just as deserving. We want to know who they are. PM me with your nominations and the staff will review them. If they're accepted, you'll know you've chosen wisely.

Thanks for joining us as we work to make InsanelyMac the greatest forum of its kind.

Love the idea!

Quite off-topic, but I just wanted to say a big Thank You to Mash for the vision to make this forum what it has become - a respected and recognised home for all topics Mac, way beyond anything we could have envisaged when we first started playing with OSX on our non-Apple hardware. The 'Guru' concept is just such a vision - the cachet that will give us is something special. I can't emphasise enough how impressed I am with the way we've developed in the last year, and I'm proud to be part of this - although I can't quite believe I'm part of it since my own role has been insignificant in comparison to that of the others who have made us what we are. Just to see my picture with the 'moderator' badge on this great site is quite incredible to me. We should all be proud. Well done, guys and gals, this is such an impressive achievement!

Brilliant Mash! :P

Can I suggest that you make a Front Page news about this, otherwise I don't think it will get as much attention as it deserves! :)

Indeed, SABR. Done and done. :P

Edit: I just deleted a post in this thread where someone gave their nominaitons. While we really love the nominations, it's best if you can PM or email me who you think we should consider. That way it's secret, no one's feelings get hurt if they're nominated and don't get accepted, one person's selection won't influence another, etc. It'll just make things easier and more legitimate. :)

So, please don't hesitate to PM or email me your nominations!

Let's use this thread for discussion and any questions you may have. Thanks! :)

Can you self nominate and have votes made by persons? For instance I was looking towards something like Video Editing Guru, and have posted tons and tested configs for FCP, I would be able to post a vote or something on that help forum?

Certainly - self nominations are more than welcome. If you'd like to help the forum by posting cool stuff you like and giving advice to others, we'd love to have you.

You just have to promise not to be offended if you're not accepted, since our selection requirements are pretty stringent. :dance_24:

Thanks!

I think it would be nice to give title to maxxuss, even if he doesn't uses that user anymore / disappeared form the face of the earth. Just something in his memory, and he could enjoy the benefits if he ever comes back.

most flattered!! Glad to be able to give some love back. Thanks for a great and constantly improving forum.

...those posts must have been pretty helpful, my post count isn't that high......so even bigger thanks for the title! I'll do my best to live up to it!

i'd be interested in statistics on personal folder usage, and throughput. do you have any? :)

i don't know if it's possible or not, but, when new versions of os x become available 50 messages are kind of tight, you have to make some tough choices. any chance of regular people having their inboxes doubled to 100 perhaps?

or wild thought! is there any way with this forum software to forward personal message to an email account?

Here are the areas we'd really like several Gurus, who'll help post new content and help others:

Buying Thoughts (someone who will post good deals they find, etc... ya know, the people who know all the coupon codes, etc)

OSx86 - To help with the construction of a few FAQs, common links, etc.

Mac Betas

Mac Programming and Development

Video Creation

Audio Creation

Photography

Web and Graphical Design

Mods and Overclocking

Wallpapers, Icons, Themes, and Skins

If you would like to nominate someone, including yourself, for any of these positions, send me your nomination. Of course, Gurus for the other areas are still needed. :)

Quixos -

We don't actually keep stats on personal usage or read your mail - we're all about the privacy, baby :offtopic: . However, if anyone needs a bigger mailbox, just PM me - I'll be happy to help.
