A Thanksgiving Freeze

Numberzz

It's Thanksgiving again, and we all know what that means! Yes, users have started complaining about two very significant bugs in the Leopard (supposedly) operating system. One of them is something that I have had a problem with in the past, with the older betas of Mac OS X Leopard. Many laptops' keyboards are freezing randomly. That means that when there is no keyboard connected to the computer, the internal keyboard randomly shuts off, making itself disappear from the USB Devices list. The next issue has to do with battery life, and it's sudden drop when users install Leopard. Some users are even reporting that the battery has gone from above 3 hours to below 2. Neither of these issues Apple has fixed yet, but they are replacing the keyboards on the computers affected by the glitch, which seems a little extreme.

I am having the under 2 hour battery on Leopard for my Macbook. I am sure Apple is fixing all the bugs.

I have not have the keyboard freeze yet on my macbook or any of my other macs with leopard.

Interestingly, my MBP 2.2 GHz has not exhibited any of these problems UNLESS I am using Spaces actively.

It is also only using spaces that my Bluetooth Kbd and mouse randomly disconnected.

I am however having wireless problems were introduced with Leopard, as well, independently of Spaces.

Just one more data point ...

I was experiencing this keyboard drop-out thing last night for the first time, thought it was a hick-up and restarted my MacBook. But know it seems that a whole bunch of people are having the same problem. I like to see Apple take care of this most annoying problem really soon.

Yeah my battery life hasn't seemed the same since I upgraded but it hasn't been a problem. Actually I haven't really thought about it until I read the article. My keyboard has been fine and my airport has been fine too, Actually it's been better than ever. I almost always have all four bars and my router is upstairs on the other side of the house.

As far as the battery life issue, people should check in System Profiler under the Power tab. I started using beta builds of Leopard and noticed the short battery life. Then I was looking in System Profiler and noticed that my full capacity of the battery went from about 5300mAh down to 3300mAh. I had to get a new battery under warranty which solved my problem. Basically my runtime went from about 2:30 hours to 3:30-4:00 hrs on my Macbook Pro with wireless on. Worth a shot.

My Macbook Pro's battery is acting funky. I let it drain once to give it a full cycle, but when it started charging, it got to around 80% and started flashing Charged/not Charging continuously, i let it charge all night, but it never finished and was halted at 99%. I ran off the battery and said it had about 2 hours left :-/. Not to mention the whole system shut off at around 21%. Im running 10.5.1, so Im assuming something is up with Leopard as it was working fine before.

Just called up Apple, after waiting in the Queue for an hour they replaced my battery.

2 weeks ago I contacted apple about my battery (total charge dropped from 100% to 94% in 1 month, they said they were sending me a replacement in 2-3 days. Like i said, it has been 2 weeks and still no battery.

just got back from the Apple Store, they replaced my battery for free as it was under warranty and they said it was probably a defective battery chip ;). Score 1 for hopefully it wasn't Leopard that screwed things up.
