I've got an eVGA 9600 GTX+ card with 512MB of memory and a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo. I posted a while back on a separate thread about a problem I'm having with flickering, but I haven't gotten a response there.

I've managed to do installs of Kalyway 10.5.2 and iDeneb 10.5.6. Both work quite well except for a screen flicker problem that's quite annoying. I notice it most in dark regions like the background to the iTunes album view and iPhoto event view. I can also see some faint flickering if I have a desktop background with darker areas.

It seems to affect the entire screen, so I was thinking it was a refresh rate problem. My monitor tells me it's refreshing at 60Hz, which is normal for it. Would different drivers work better? I've been using NVInject, and that seems to work the best for me aside from this problem. I've tried some other drivers, but they don't work as well--no QE/CI or no picture at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I am getting an eVGA 9800 GTX+ (supposed to be delivered tomorrow), and I have an already working install with QE/CI for my XFX 7950 GTX. What steps should I take prior to and post installation (of the new card) to avoid kernel panics or other boot issues?

Is this monitor a CRT or LCD. If this is a 60 Hertz CRT monitor, then no amount of drivers will sort that out. 60 hertz always flickers. Do you have QE & CI?

Right, should have specified. It's an LCD. I do get QE/CI with the right drivers. The flickering happens even when QE and CI are enabled.

Thank for the tutorial awesome !!

One question I have a EVGA 9800 GTX+ SC (super clocked) I generated the GFX using many different methods. (EFI Studio, osx86tools ect..)

On random times I get grey, white and red virtial lines up and down the screen and the system crashes. (no kernel panic) Do you know of any issues with the 9800 GTX + SC ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have no idea how, but upon my GFX upgrade (XFX 7950 GTX --> eVGA 9800 GTX+), when my computer restarted everything was working with full QE/CI without touching any drivers! This is what the System Profiler info looks like:

I seem to have a problem with the cursor randomly jumping around and accelerating/decelerating randomly when moved. I'll try switching to the 9800 drivers but using what I have now (my old 7950 GTX drivers), QE/CI was completely functioning on boot after upgrading to a evga 9800 GTX+

Hi Aqua-mac!

Thanks for all your help but i still have a problem with my card....

It's a XFX 9800 GTX +(PLUS) 512MB.

I have tried your method and the gfxstrings but it hasn't activated QE. I have deleted the natit.kext and the Nvinjct.kext but still nothing.

Have you got any Ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

my mainboard is Intel Bad Axe 2 and i have a Gainward 9800GTX+ (512mb).

I use only DSDT.aml and my Videocard is fully working. But it is slow.

My xbench result is:

Quatz Graphics Test: 293.02

OpenGL Graphics Test: 209.66

User Interface Test: 401.33

My old 7300gt runs faster.

Any idea?

I'm stumped here, please someone help me with mz gainward 9800gtx+

I just did a retail vanilla install onto an empty drive. Updated to 10.5.6, then installed chameleon v.2 rc1 onto the drive. Since I have a GA EP45-DQ6 board, I ran LS8s post-patch script which hopefully by default installs the appropriate .kexts. The drive booted, but no QE and windows smear. No prob, I used OSXTools to generate EFI strings, which it also pasted into the appropriate .plist. I erased the extensions cache, and rebooted, but still no QE!

this is all pretty bizarre as my other leopard install, based on iAtkos 10.5.5 which I updated to 10.5.6 works just fine with the card, pretty sure EFI_V9 is the bootloader. I just cant remember which settings i fiddled with exactly to get it to work. I dont wanna mess with these injectors I read about, as I want as vanilla as possible. And the EFI strings generated by OSXTools should work..... but why won't they work? Does chameleon not find the com.apple.Boot.plist? Or does one have to edit some other files? Like the info.plists inside the nvidia .kexts, like in NVDANV50Hal.kext? I feel like there's just one little thing that I'm missing here....

These forums can be confusing as there never seems to be enough concerning the current state of affairs, with all this old stuff just causing confusion.

thanks for your help

EDIT: Another thing, the working iAtkos install loses its QE/video drivers when I boot it after first starting from the chameleon v2/retail and then switching the boot disk within chameleon. Does this indicate that chameleon/EFI_v9 have different EFI capabilities? Why on earth does one work and not the other....

Edit2: Alright, I've figured out that chameleon want the boot.plist in /extra. But since 10.5.7 I can't even boot as far as any sort of blue screen... but that's a whole other story. So! Stick your EFI strings in the boot.plist located in your extra folder and they will hopefully go with chameleon v2 rc1.

Edit3: Remember to connect the video out closest to the mobo. The other hsa rez switching issues.. me me at least.

Hey everyone,

After four days of forumreading and some dozens of installs I have decided to ask for help.

My XFX 9800 GTX(+) only works when I install iDeneb 10.5.6. However I have installed the original retail dvd with boot132, and updated to 10.5.7. Neither in 10.5.0 or 10.5.7 I can get my card to work with resolution choice and QE. In iDeneb it worked with nvdarwin, but those drivers do not work in retail, although they are reported in system profiler. I am dual booting and have macloader installed on the first harddrive. I have come to realise that this may have something to do with everything. When I installed iDeneb I did not dual boot. Every modification I make in the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist is not properly recognized. Oddly enough: when I modify the com.apple.boot.plist file in the extra folder on the macloader drive, the modification is recognized (kernel flag that is) but strings do not work. I have Chameleon 2 installed, does that support efi strings?

So far I have tried every method on this forum: nvdarwin, kush, inject and just plain copying aquamacs kexts, repairing permission, deleting extensions.mkext. None of this makes my graphics card work. I am really desperate by now.

Does anyone have a clue what could be going on here? I don't want to go back to iDeneb because I like installing my own retail version, but the graphics just suck right now.

Rig:

Q8200@2.33Ghz

Asus p5QL PRO 4 GB RAM, modified BIOS

XFX 9800 GTX+

Chameleon dual boot with Windows 7

MACOS retail 10.5.7

BOOT132 CD was made with Slimbuild non gui, I installed all the kexts from my iDeneb extensions folder to the kexts folder in slimbuild. (somehow I feel something is wrong here too, but boot132 CD should not affect my vanilla install or should it??)

Thanks for helping if you can.

Jeff

Jeff,

Are you placing the modded strings in both the extra folder and your System config file. You need to. I have strings working fine with Chameleon 2 and retail, so that is not the problem. From your sys profiler output, your strings are not being read at all. You will always get "Display" & "32 MB" output when they are not being read.

chameleon needs the strings in the boot.plist located in the Extra folder at root level. Never heard of this macloader, but I^ve gotten my card working great with 10.5.7 vanilla & EFI strings that are read by chameleon from Extra. Maybe I have them in system/libary whatnot also, cant remember. I'm not sure if I understand whether you really use chameleon to start up the system or this macloader..

Hi there Aqua-mac,

thanks for your reply. I am assuming you mean if I have placed the strings in the comapplebootplist in both the library/prefs/sysconfig and macloader/extra/ folders? I did in fact and that did not work for some reason. I had a hard time figuring out that I needed to modify the files in both folders or at least the one in the extra folder, but eventually it doesn't seem to make a difference.

If you mean something else, then please do clarify.

Thanks!

Jeff

Hey Muckler,

I followed this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=128274. That is how I got an extra partition to substitute for having to boot from boot 132 cd. I installed macloader (which is a part of chameleon, I believe, or the other way around) and everytime I boot, I boot into chameleon's gui. I assume you do not have this additional partition then?

But something on this forum is confusing me: boot.plist and com.apple.boot.plist seem to be discussed here sometimes as being the same, nevertheless I noticed they are in fact seperate files. However efi strings seem to be applied only to com.apple.boot.plist. So which do you mean?

In any case I added strings to the com.apple.boot.plist in the extra folder of my additional partition, on which chameleon was installed and it did not work.

However I understand from your posts that it should work, so I suppose I have to find out what is making my system not work. If I in fact do not need the additional partition that would certainly make things more simple. But right now I cannot even seem to create a decent boot 132 cd. I have one other question about that (I'm sorry I only dug into this stuff four days ago and these are the only gaps in my knowledge so far), the kexts I need for the boot132, what exactly is done with them? I understood they are only needed to boot the pc so that it can boot the retail dvd. But apparently it really matters a lot which kexts you use as my retail dvd only sometimes installs properly. In order to be safe I usually copy all the kexts from my working iDeneb install to the boot132 cd, but is that the way to do it or should I just choose only particular ones?

Thanks a bunch!!

Jeff

You also have no QE/CI. We won't know what you're doing wrong unless you tell us what you did.
