Give a screenshot of your kernel panic please.

So, i've just testes PC_EFI V9 right now and Deep sleep is working well on my inspiron 9400. (also GUID osx/xp dual boot with /extra support)

here the new one: http://netkas.org/

Give a screenshot of your kernel panic please.

So, i've just testes PC_EFI V9 right now and Deep sleep is working well on my inspiron 9400. (also GUID osx/xp dual boot with /extra support)

here the new one: http://netkas.org/

how do I install this thing on a dual boot with Vista. Do I replace it with my tboot or boot0 on my boot partition or do I install this into the root of the osx partition?

thanks

just copy the "boot" file onto the osx's root folder. manage it with terminal:

sudo -s
cp /Users/yourname/Downloads/boot /

that's it. It also works with dsdt patcher and chameleon files.

thanks, ohh so close. it goes to sleep, it wakes up (to my taste too fast) and shows the last desktop. However, I cannot do anything. Nothing is working, no keyboard or mouse. any idea? when I use the deepsleep widget it tells me that it cannot get powermanagement settings.

you can try to force hibernate throught terminal:

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 5

(back to sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3 for nomal mode)

I don't think 5 will work, that mode uses secure virtual memory. Netkas said that is not supported yet.

0 = suspend to ram (sleep)

1 = suspend to disk (deep sleep/hibernate)

3 = suspend to ram and disk (safe sleep)

5, 7 = same as 1 and 3 with secure vm

Give a screenshot of your kernel panic please.

Here it is...

just tried that and get an error:

pmset: internal error!

no matter what mode I chose. strange. I know this worked before just recently. wonder what got forked there. guess I have to do some more reading on this. thanks for your help!

edit 1: ok, I fixed that problem. replaced the powermanagement. bundle with the one from 10.5.4 and I can set the modes fine. when I send it to sleep it does what it's supposed to do, it seems to write the memory to disk, goes to sleep, but then wakes up with a blank screen. Just as before. I think it's still waking up on mode 3 and my darn gma950 is probably giving all kinds of other problems. I also made sure that secure VM is checked off in system settings and am using mode 1 to only write to disk (thanks Chrysaor)

edit 2: no go here so far. ready to reinstall fresh when 10.5.6 comes along.

edit 3: btw. how can I confirm that the new boot is actually working? all I see when it loads for a split second is sth about efi bootloader by ToH. that doesn't sound right to me.....

Here it is...

Your ApplePS2Controller seem's to give you some errors. So, try to replace with this one: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=24495

If you have installed EHCISleepEnabler, try to remove it.

I don't think 5 will work, that mode uses secure virtual memory. Netkas said that is not supported yet.

1 = suspend to disk (deep sleep/hibernate)

3 = suspend to ram and disk (safe sleep)

5, 7 = same as 1 and 3 with secure vm

but 5 is the default mode of deepsleep app, and it works for me. (i've patched my dsdt, so maybe it's connected...)

the chameleon version should be 1.012 in bootloader infos.

With ApplePS2Controller replaced, those errors at boot are gone, but it's the same with kernel panic. A few seconds after booting, the system freezes.

I didn't find EHCISleepEnabler so I think it's not installed, I've checked for it at system/library/extensions

Here's the verbose boot after installing the new ApplePS2Controller:

ok, backup files are stored in /dellLaptops/backup/

Files concerning you are:

- GenericCPUPowerManagement.kext (remove from System/library/Extensions/ )

- ACPIBattery.kext (remove from System/library/Extensions/ )

- ClamshellDisplay.kext (remove from System/library/Extensions/ )

- PowerManagement.bundle (restore from dellLaptops/backup/ to /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ )

reboot with -f or -x if it don't boot.

when you start sonotone's installer there is a package item "others". Under that you will find DualCore Kernels 9.2 -> 9.5. For your 10.5.2 installation you pick the 9.2 kernel.

I still have efi5 or so. chameleon will not help you get rid of the problem. the kernel should take care of the stuttering.

once you are in safe mode. go to your /System/Library/SystemConfiguration folder and delete the newly installed PowerManagement.bundle. Then copy the backed up bundle into the same folder. You may have to verify with admin password. Once done with this, go into your Utilities folder under Applications and start Disk Utility. highlight your Leopard partition on the left and then click on Repair Disk Permissions. Reboot and hopefully it will start fine.

But, I just realized that sonotone's installer doesn't mess with that file at all. Under the PowerManagement package only things like speedstep enabler, battery meter, lid sleep ... are listed. I am pretty sure that the IntelSpeedStepEnhancer.kext and SpeedStep application is your problem for the kernel panic. you need to get rid of these. The kext is in the /System/Library/Extensions folder. The app maybe under autostart. go to system preferences/accounts and pick your account. check the tab login items to the right and delete the entry for the speedstep application.

advice for next time. only choose one item in from the installer and make sure it works before choosing several and then not knowing which one caused the problem.... Also, if your system has speedstep enabled in the bios you can use superhai's kext

good luck.

Thanks you very much it works 100%. Wow I can boot into my Dell now with both cores and its runs smoothly and much faster.

Thanks to you Sonotone and all that worked so hard for us Dell Laptop users. Its people like you that make things great to look forward to.

Thanks Again!!

It seems that the problem was the GenericCPUPowerManagement.kext. I first removed only this and the problem is gone.

Any idea for making this kext work in my setup? I know there are a couple of users with the same laptop that installed it without problems. Maybe is the OS version? I'm on Kalyway 10.5.2

Anyway, thanks for the time and help!

/edit/

I'm running a Studio 1535 with a Core2Duo T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)

the chameleon version should be 1.012 in bootloader infos.

I think there is my problem. I don't see this anywhere. I used to see efi..., but now I don't see anything on boot. I even recorded the entire boot and there is no mention anywhere of efi or chameleon. I looked at the boot log but that doesn't say anything either, it is in fact too short to be meaningful. I am afraid that I don't have the bootloader active at the moment. I will start a new install on my spare hdd and start entirely from scratch and see where that goes.

very good. works perfectly in my Dell Inspiron 1252 (GMA X3100).

But, after i install i can't change my desktop picture.. only works if i change my resolution to 1024 and returns to 1280. And when i reboot the screen is blue, without the picture. Please see the image below.

What wrong am i doing?

I think I've replied just recently to sb else here with almost identical problem. This happened to me when I had autologin enabled or didn't use a password to login. when this happened to me a quick logoff/login fixed the problem. it went away after I got rid of autologin. apparently some script that doesn't run properly when autologin is enabled.

I've posted a few other places but since Sonotone has a 9400 and he wrote the installation package I was wondering if anyone else on here with the 9400 is experience issues with dropping on the 440x Broadcom LAN card? I doubt but figured I would ask in case Sonotone or someone figured it out. Thanks!

has anyone else had an issue with using the ATI x1400 driver on there dell e1505?

Im getting an completely blank screen after rebooting.

i have a dell inspiron e1505

ati x1400

80gb HD

sigtel HD audio

standard dvd + - rw drive.

Hi Sonotone,

Thanks for the install package. Everything seems to be working now but when my xps 1530 wakes from sleep my xbench score is half of what it was before the sleep.... is there a fix for this loss of performance?

Hope you can help

yes! is this. i disable the autologin and works. thanks the great deceiver

I think there is my problem.

Ok, I did a complete reinstall with a retail dvd 10.5.4 and sonotone's inspiron dfe iso and harddisk dmg compilations from first page. everything worked as advertised. I did this on a spare hdd I had around.

I can boot the system only to an external monitor. then I can apply the dell patcher and the gma950 drivers. on reboot my laptop monitor shows fine, however only one display res 1024x768, no qe. I then force it into 1280x800 in com.apple.boot.plist. After reboot I get full graphics capabilities including other resolutions and qe all on the laptop display.

in other words: the gma950 drivers in the patcher work but need some extra help to get the laptop monitor recognized.

using netkas deepsleep efi/chameleon I can get the E1505 to deep sleep as well.

starting hibernate - wake kernel! and desktop comes back. I am using hibernatemode 1 btw. yohooo!

thanks again for all your help sonotone and others.

edit1: now got dual boot with Vista back following this nice guide:

has anyone else had an issue with using the ATI x1400 driver on there dell e1505?

Since new apple updates, X1400 have many problems, and now i doubt that someone will works on it. (try to ask to the menber called slice, or find a way by yourself).

I've made a micro application whit Applescript to put the system in hibernate mode (to have an access via the dock and use s4, witch is fastest than deepsleep's s5).

The only thing you have to do is to set your password to prevent the app ask for it each time you run it.

So, download the file, open it with Script editor, set your password to the right place, save (command+s).

You can also switch hibernate mode to 2,3...etc.

Only for PC_EFi V9.

PS: glad you finally got sleep working TGD :dev: after many years in pain... ;)

To skip the sleep image at boot, type:

-nowake

when you patch your dsdt, make sure you type

-newHPET

as explained in patcher readme.

And you have to install chameleon before, then replace boot file by netkas one as explained above.
