ninetto Posted February 29, 2008 Share Posted February 29, 2008 Hello, now that 10.5.2 update has been out for a couple of weeks, I am curious about reports of REAL advantages over 10.5.1, irregardless of what Apple claims. I have been reading a number of complaints about things that worked in 10.5.1 not working after the update. Sure, the living-legend Netkas e.g. already has a fixed kernel that allows shutdown again with 10.5.2... but my dilemma is: if it ain't broke don't fix it? I know there is another method for updating to 5.2, but like you said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. None of the applications I run "require" 5.2, so I'm going to stick with 5.1 until 5.3 is released. I've reformatted and everything is great now. I'd be interested to know what hardware you're on optimusp due to a lot of other people saying the update worked fine. sigmaris Posted March 1, 2008 Share Posted March 1, 2008 I was on 10.5.1 with a hacked kernel that wouldn't shut down, then I upgraded to 10.5.2 with vanilla kernel + pc_efi and the machine now shuts down, restarts and sleeps properly. Also I think it fixed a buggy AppleIntel8254x network driver as I haven't been having any problems with it since I upgraded. It used to show the network adapter as unplugged for no reason sometimes. I'm sure there are other bug fixes as well. You need to do the basic stuff, repair permissions before install. And what do you mean by hosed the install? You get a black screen after the Apple logo screen for about 2 or 3 minutes before hitting the desktop, this is normal and its fixed by installing the Kalyway kernels package. The advantages are: You will notice slightly faster speeds because of recompiled Intel something (forgot what), and if you experienced any bugs in 10.5.0 and 10.5.1 they are almost sure to be fixed in 10.5.2. dacho Posted March 3, 2008 Share Posted March 3, 2008 "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" does not work on 10.5.2. Problem is it does not require password when coming back from screen saver. It worked fine on 10.5.1. Does anybody know how to fix this? I have Asrock Conroe945g-dvi with pentium d 2.8Ghz and Nvidia 7600 gt 4Gb of memory. I really miss this feature and I would like it back. 8ender Posted March 3, 2008 Share Posted March 3, 2008 I've noticed a massive speed boost between 10.5.1 and 5.2. I also switched to EFI, upgraded my nForce and ATI driver, and found a 3Com network card for sweet native network as well so I'm sure I'm seeing the cumulative effects of all of the upgrades and not just the Apple update. One thing that is nice is that my system is completely stable with this release. I was experiencing little bugs here and there and I had gotten so used to them that it was a nice surprise to see them gone. Right now my Hackintosh works just like a stock Mac Pro and its fantastic. I'm using Zepyroth 10.5.2 EFI if anyone is interested. dacho Posted March 4, 2008 Share Posted March 4, 2008 If you have airport extreme router with samsung printer attached to it printer will not work on 10.5.2 neither on real mac or hackintosh. However there is a workaround but even after workaround printer lags for about 20 to 30 seconds. It'll register, and pick up an IP, but as soon as you try to do anything network-wise, it'll freeze the system, with or without a KP. Anyone got a better driver? I have a shared media folder that contains files organized into music, movies, pictures, and so forth. The hierarchical navigation is very handy and it actually reminds me a little bit of OS 9.
