My MSI P965 NEO-F crashes , means logout, if i run "About this Mac.".

System Profiler runs with no problem !

And i have no major other problems. (Sure, About this Mac crash isnt really bad, but maybe some other things can get worst)

Do you know anything about that problem.

MSI (7235) has an BIOS Option : LIMIT CPUID MaxVal to 3 / OFF )

I set it to OFF (somewere i read to do that)

IORegistry Explorer shows that there are 2 CPUs with values and 2 without - may that be an BIOS Problem ?

MSI P965 NEO-F (7235) , Chipset Intel 965 , Intel CPU E2160

BIOS: 7235v1A.zip

Here is the modified AMI bios for ECS G31T-M. Unfortunally, the newer version of the bios do not work correctly and will get "unable to load driver" for "ACPI". So I have to stick with the older version of the bios. This has been tested on a quad core. But USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE AGAINST ANY DAMAGE! PLEASE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR BOARD I REALLY CAN NOT HELP YOU.

Thanks

Thank you so much for your work! The flash went OK but unfortunately my system got very unstable and would freeze in random places during the installation. The instability, however, also appeared under Linux and Windows, so it's probably a BIOS bug, and I had to revert back to the newer BIOS.

Actually it seems ECS has released an even newer version here:

Do you think it might be worth patching too?

I think the the Quad core run better with the older version. But here is the patched version of the newer bios. Hope it works better for you.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi there,

I've been having a lot of trouble finding any references to the F3L model, specifically F3L-AP016P. Is this a rare model?

Can this BIOS please be modded?

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/F3L/F3L206AS.zip

Thanks in advance!

It is an AMIBIOS, but since I don't have that much time to debug the problem with DSDT compiliation errors, you might have to do some research yourself. I spend about total of 30 minutes on yours so far with no luck. If you intend to debug it yourself, you need the iasl.exe from Intel and do a iasl.exe -d dsdt.dsl and you will see what I mean. I am not an expert on DSDT compilation errors either, so I guess google might be our best friend.

I have attached your compiled dsdt. If you have figured out how to compile the dsdt without errors, attach the files here and I will make a rom for you.

Didn't go too well. MacOS gets a kernel panic, Vista automatically reboots and Linux somehow boots, but without ACPI. These are some dmesg messages, if you can figure out something useful from them:

Well finally I manage to get BIOS.ROM from that damn .exe QBios file!

Was a PITA!

For those who have the same phoenix .exe installer i will write a short guide to save their time and pain...

1. To extract .exe file use Universal Extractor

2. To extract .cab file use ZipScan Evaluation, select overwrite all files on destination folder, the result will be a BIOS folder and a lot of nonimportant files, go to Bios folder (save Bios folder in a safe place) you will see a file named PQVF.VFD, that file is a virtual floppy image and contain the BIOS.ROM

3. Download Virtual Floppy Drive (VFD) for Windows, install it, then create a virtual floppy using maximum size 2.8 MB(same as VFD file) assing a letter for it and mount that PQVF.VFD file. Bang! Now you can see that BIOS.ROM in mounted image/floppy drive ex. A:

4. Copy that BIOS.ROM file in a safe place and you can start playng with Phoenix BIOS Editor 2.2.0.1 for Windows 98/NT/2K/XP/VISTA(latest one i can find ;) ) @ your own risk of course, or make a request.

5. After you finish edit it (or someone for u) add/replace it back in that mounted floppy and eject/close that PQVF.VFD file, copy/replace it in Bios folder and launch/pray executable file, in my case BenQ.exe, your computer will restart and start flashing your moded bios.

I hope this miniguide will be useful b/c at least for me was a PITA to get that bios file, i have to install a lot of archive manager, hex editors, cab extractors, instalshield...etc. to figure out what to use...

For fun here is a screen shot of expensive app(~6000$) of Phoenix BIOS Editor to see what you can do:

Phoenix_BIOS_Editor.jpg

The reason for editing bios is b/c i can't boot from any usb device...so i try to figure out what can be done in bios to enable this feature and other...

All I need now is master Kabyl to teach me what to do next and why in pheonix editor ACPI editor is greyed out...

So here is my proper request:

Laptop Model: BenQ JoyBook R55v

Bios ROM file: In attachement

Know issue: can't boot from any usb device, wrong fsb detection on os x(works/detected on boot with chameleon but still reported bad on system profiler, works with Superhai smbios) and if I can unhide some bios features will be great, also some powermanagement...

Thanks,

XyZ

A bit of topic but has to do with wrong CPU detection in OS X

Maybe its easier to mod the kernel for fixing that wrong BIOS informations ?

My MSI P965 NEO-F do NOT need CPU=1 for booting (vanilla, modded kernel). OK

But ABout this Mac crashes, were System Profiler and all other things run.

Maybe others have also informations for perhaps kernel professionals to get wrong BIOS fixed in the kernel (sure then its not vanilla).

Hello, Kabyl.

I've got Asus Z7S WS board with i5400 chipset (Seaburg), one X5472 Xeon CPU and ATI X1950 Pro graphics card. The problem is that I'm unable to boot with ACPI APIC option enabled in bios (constant reboot with Jaguar's appleapic.kext/appleacpiplatform.kext or stuck at the "MAC Frame work successfully initialized" with newer kexts) and without that option I've got 0 processors and 1 core ((. Attached is the original BIOS. Thanks very much.

He Kabyl, i hope you have some time to take a look at my bios.

Im using a BTO (build to order) notebook

My cpu = core2 duo 8300 2.4 Ghz

Graphics card = nvidia 8600 gt 512 mb

it's a intel santa rosa platform

the link of the bios

ftp://ftp.n4all.nl/Drivers/15V125+%20HDMI...%20BIOS%200.29/

problem im having is when im using vanilla kernel, it can only use 1 core or it keeps rebooting at startup. No problem wit the kabyl kernel.

Hope i can use vanilla kernel, because apple uses santa rosa for some of there macbooks.

ps.. i dont know if the notebook uses a bios or efi, this because the bios says "ares efi version 0.29", but on top it says bios.
