UPDATE:

I updated the most common problems section on post#2 to reflect more changes on it... and will update the post#1 as well to add a new first paragraph for everyone to read carefully...

Hi

Got the install going. Now I get a GRUB Boot Error 17.

I know this is some kind of partition error. How do I fix this?

I'm not attempting to dual boot; I've installed OS X on a freshly formatted partition with HFS+ and MBR.

(hardware in sig)

Read post#1046 it applies to you too... you must have either problem with GRUB (linux problem) or you misconfigured your partitioning, i dont have experience with grub as much, so no help in that... unless you boot off the hdd directly setting it up as first hdd in bios to boot from...

OMG IT HAS FINALLY WORKED! I HAVE BOOTED LEOPARD. I HAVE SOUND!

Ok:

SO, to fix the boot thing I thought I'd better tell you since I did it by guesswork, and you wouldn't normally do it.

Anyway:

I have an SSE3 processor, but out of frustration I installed the SSE2 kernel (obviously it wouldn't boot), then erased the drive and reinstalled with SSE3; all boot errors fixed themselves!

did you read the guide on post#2 at all? u said it yourself, u didnt! next time read it carefully and dont do guesswork, bcoz of people do guesswork, they waste the space with unnecessary posts for not reading the guide carefully...

Ok - problem.

Installed Kalyway update, didn't restart, installed graphics package, left all as default as per your recommendation, restarted. Let it restart twice, *now* it loads Leopard, then when the bootscreen is finished loading the screen goes black and monitor goes to Power Save. Clearly a graphics error. Is it rectifiable?

have you choosen your nvinject? it says, do not change the default setting doesnt mean do not choose gfx settings at all, default settings are main things, you need to choose the additional extras for your hardwares...

you can fix things but that requires going into safe mode, i dont think you are at that stage yet?

so full reinstall? I bet you didnt read my message above for readin post#1046 regarding making 3 partitions and the reason behind it? you have a lot to read/understand before you keep doing guesswork...

OK. It all worked this time. No networking. Does anyone know of a fully-compatible 108mbps wireless usb dongle for Leopard that will require no driver install?

read the post#2 for gods sake!

thanks dude ( mysticus ), i understand why you told me to do 2 partitions exactly the same ill keep that in mind.

i followed the update part of the guide with success except for the gfx update which didnt make my 2900xt work, but looking here in the forum i followed another tutorial using natit and other stuff and it worked perfectly the GB of VRAM is detected and i have hardware acceleration on core image and full resolution of my monitor of 1440x900, still i cant figure why mac osx has locked 75hz in 1440x900, my monitor can handle it in windows at least but its just a detail no worries with that.

next of all this i enabled my internal motherboard audio and it worked perfectly i just turned on inside the bios then boot to osx and voila i have perfect output, but not input, but thats another detail that im not very worried about for now.

im very happy with this improvement made to my desktop system i own a macbook white and i always thought to use osx on my desktop system, i tried long time ago with the jas tiger but no luck that time.

anyway i appreciate your dedication and time to answer and explain this to finally make it work.

very much thanks!

glad to hear that you made it work, just curious if you have choosen the 2900xt driver or not? when you were doing the gfx update part (in customize window of the gfx update)? bcoz the driver was in the gfx update package had to be selected in order to work... did you do it?

also another tutorial? as far as I remember I did the 2900xt tutorial as well ;)

yeah i followed the tutorial selecting the ATI Radeon 2900 XT and Pro package, but when i rebooted the OSX just after the apple screen the screen goes to a unknown grey with some blue or purple pattern that repeats itself in rectangles as far as i saw.

so in the guide of the HD radeons appears to describe this screen and its due to two .kext part of nvidia gfxs that loads at start up, so i eliminated both of them to delete the extensions.kext and the .com.apple on caches after but that weird screen still appears.

then i use that tutorial i mention and it worked straight on the first attempt.

are you able to go all the way to installer window? how do you know your hdd is not recognized?

also are you sure you have iatkos r3? and where are screen shots of your problem? where is your boot process stuck what is the real problem?

if you dont describe properly we cant help you...

I understand that I'm not providing enough information. I'm sorry.

As always, my specs are in my sig.

I have a few pictures (sorry for the quality):

Now, no matter what flags I use, I get the errors pictured above. If you can't read them, just tell me and I'll post the text. Right now it seems like my hw is not supported...

@parm289: it must be your hdd that is causing the trouble? is there anything on it? or is it plain and clean?

There are 2 partitions - ubuntu linux (ext3) and winxp (ntfs i think?)

@Kilopopo: huge files sizes freezing usually happens bcoz of 4gb memory, i suggest you to take out 2gb, and run your pc with 2gb left inside, and test the same things again... and toast on some nforce mobos has trouble burning you may need to find another software, DvP had same issue (report what software you are using DvP),he then changed the software, working fine for him now... it must be related to sata drivers i guess? and do the same tests again, and report back... good luck...

Hey Mysticus using the 2gb only fixed my huge file size freezing. will there be a fixed later on so that i can use my 4gb of memory? also is there a kernel flag for using memory thanks.

@Kilopopo - did you use mysticus' tutorial to install leopard? I see you have a similar motherboard and HD (assuming yours is SATA of course) to mine - I have a regular P5NSLI, while you have the P5N-E SLI. did you use iAtkos r3? Did you have any problems installing? Thanks, and sorry for asking so many questions.

i think most likely your problem is caused by linux? if you dont have too much too loose, i would suggest completely wipe your hdd, and start reinstalling one by one...

and boot of the dvd once you wiped everything, and go to utilities/disk utility

and make the appropriate partitioning scheme! according to your liking... make sure you first plan how you want to use your hdd... like how many OSs you will use (windows linux osx etc..) and decide to choose partitioning and partition formats based on that...

and make fresh install with iatkos first, then you can continue installing other OSs one by one... i would suggest; osx, windows, linux last...

@kilopopo: I dont know of a fix about 4gb issue, might be related to nforce, might be 64/32 bit issue vise versa... i dont think i m able to make a fix for this kind of thing... but will ask some other people...

there is a flag to be able to use for memory and I mentioned it some posts back... it is maxmem use search the topic to find out..., later i may add it to the post#2 for frequent problems section...

good luck...

Hi, so im new here, i just installed iatkos 10.5.1 r2 right now on a PATA, after a few tries, anywho i cant upgrade to r3 yet, i dont have proper internet connection, connected to wireless through an open netowrk, downloading takes forever, anyways i tried to go throuh as many posts as possible but 54 couldnt make it thoruh it all yet, anyways was just looking for someone who could point me in the right direction to getting my wireless card to work if possible, its a d-link dwl g520 rev. b, the chipset is atheros and i believe it is ar5212, its 2 am had a long day working and what not so ah, just hoping for a link to a driver if there is a driver and i can work on installing it my self,

@parm289 - i did not follow Mysticus setup i did use iATKOS r3. I did not have any problems installing. I installed r3 to the best of my knowledge on my hardware and options on the r3 dvd.

@Mysticus - i hope there would be a fix for the 4gb crash with huge filesize in iATKOS so i can use all 4gbs

was able to play World of warcraft in os x :) yippey

i believe you didnt read the title and the post#2, bcoz you are talking about R2, read the title first. Secondly, this is chipset discussion not the individual hardware workaround... known facts are written on the post#2, if info is not there, you have to search through IM forum, not this topic... This topic is mainly for installing OSX (iatkos R3 in this case) to nforce chipsets. Individual hardwares if known, is mentioned on the post#2 already. If not mentioned, like i said, search through the forum...

@kilopopo: glad you are able to make your own decisions without messing up like others. But do not talk like I didnt follow and did it with my own experience to newbies, as it will only lead them to make their own judgements in their first attempts, hence will make life a lot more diffucult for people who are trying to help! Whatever you did on your own, I guarantee you it is 99% is the same as the guide, so mention like you did on your own, but it was same or similar to guide. Unless you want to open up your own topic and give your own suggestions. I m not telling you this to show off my skills, but to show you what will happen (already some people not following the guide and they are wasting huge amount of space from the beginning) in the future for the topic, and people who wants to help. The guide is out there with the MUST-HAVE selections for not just newbies but for osx to work correctly on nforce chipset! When the guide is followed, it will work 99% of the time, if correct hardware is in place, and correct partitioning is done.

Also I m not the one making drivers here. I m just collecting information together for people to conveniently find and use it. Therefore, your 4gb issue is out of my focus right now, and I dont really know what causes it exactly, but my guess is drivers are not correctly written to work in 64 bit mode! bcoz large files issue doesnt exist in 32 bit systems i think?, and if drivers written in 32 bit form that would make sense.

First of all, I want to be completely sure that the problem is caused by linux before i wipe that partition. I can't wipe my entire hard drive right now though, only my linux one if needed.

In other words, I want to be sure it's not the actual hardware that's the problem, but I think I might give this up, because I'm not going out and buying hardware for this. My attempt was more of a "see if i can get this to work with what i have" thing. Oh well...

well it is hard to try and find out if you dont wanna sacrafise... unless you have too much to lose on your computer, but then why would you risk of trying all these if you have so much to loose? i guess choice is up to you... good luck...

Mysticus: Did you try Kalyway 10.5.2 out? For some reason, I cannot get my Realtek 8139 card working with any driver. But I never have this problem when I use iATKOS... I wonder if there is some substancial difference between the two causing my card to not work.
