frenetic1amnesic
argh ok just thought it was worth an try. I'm probably going to end up getting a Linksys or D-Link wireless ethernet adapter and use it with a spare PCI ethernet card. Tried the PCI card with a really long ethernet cord from router to computer, and it seems stable. frenetic1amnesic
the drivers rendered Leopard useless in normal mode, and not too great in safe mode. Normal mode goes into blank screen; monitor is on, though. Safe mode gives lots of screen artifacts all over. Weird. Would it have been a bad idea to install the new drivers on top of the drivers from your graphics update package? bmags73
I do not have any of the required hardware nor did I install this version of iATKOS. I did however read through your thread and found it to be VERY informative and extremely well laid out. I thank you for your time and what you have brought to us nubz. I will use what you have taught me on my hackintosh. Again, thank you very much, I am very impressed (I'm sure you get that all the time ). --Mags Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87901-nforce-chipsets-how-to-install-leo-easy-and-fast-with-iatkos-v10i-r3-nforce-edition-or-kalyway-1052-dvd/page/40/#findComment-702817 Share on other sites

Zephyroth for AMD 10.5.2 is the DVD you should be looking for, bcoz iatkos is mainly for Intel... search the forum topic, to find relevant information.... you will find all the guides and information regarding your system... although you have nforce chipset, things may not work very easy for your system... I will send you a PM but do not ask any more questions regarding your system if iatkos doesnt work, bcoz iatkos is for intel cpus in the first place ok? it may/may not work on your system... so better to look for Zephyroth first... darkstormcr
hey mysticus... reporting that iATKOS is working good! I had to give up my Realtek ethernet card, so until I get a new one I have no Mac internet (stuck with onboard lan). I know they are like $5 but whatever lol. I've had three problems: 1) Sleeping issues; the hard drive klacks really loud and turns back on when MacOS tries to put it to sleep. Can be rememdied by making the comp never sleep in system prefs of course. I never sleep the computer anyways. 2) Mouse (this one still drives me nuts); I have a Logitech S 510 desktop set (wireless). If you lift the mouse off the desk by accident, the invisible optic goes on and OS X screws up the mouse. It starts to lag, as if it's low on battery life, and then it will race across the screen and eventually lock up. As long as I keep the mouse on the mousepad, it's good. 3) Internet: Realtek will go out during torrents or heavy downloading, waiting for a fix. Other than that, I'm happy to say things are working good! Thanks for all your help man. Mysticus C*
@waldfee: not much i can do about hdd lock ups/panics... you know the driver is not an official driver... you can try PATA hdd... I had the same lock ups when i used nforceata driver... if you want to test something, take 1 gb memory off and run your system with 3 gb memory left in the slots... and do the same usual things that creates panics... see if it will have any effect? and report back... @darkstorm: like mui said, disable the sleep function if sleep doesnt work on your system... I disabled mine bcoz sleep never worked on my mobo... for the mouse problem, i ve a guess that it is caused by network drivers... dont think it is mouse itself... DvP had that problem many times... network drops... he got the Netgear wireless nic (see my post#2 in the first page for details...), and also with 3 gb ram, no more freezes with mouse thing, or network drops at all when DvP puts back 1 gb to complete 4gb, he starts getting freezes, and he also moved to PATA drive... hope it helps some of you... Envying
1. Check with my signature, I can sleep and wake up with netkas' nonhpet kernel, but cpus=1. With kaybl's kernel, I can't sleep and wakeup, but not need to use cpus=1. 2. For Rtl8139 drop off, I think it's caused by Leopard Network Framework, which prevents flow control for RTL8139. Don't know why! But, there is a temporary solution for drop off: Sudo -s cd /system/library/extensions/ionetworkingfamily.kext/content/plugins kextunload applertl8139ethernet.kext kextload applertl8139ethernet.kext I switched to Viarhine based DLink DFE538TX for a while, I also had problem with it, it was even worse, some times it will freeze the system. Anyways, hopefully it's a bit of help for you guys. Mysticus C*
I think you dont read this topic too often... the problem is not that simple... in my theory (bcoz i have checked the source code of the 8139 as well), the problem is most likely caused by flushing buffers/caches! and if you look for the drivers for old NICs, they are all written for 10.4.8 or earlier... what does it imply? it means that 10.4.8 was the last version also to work without too much tinkering around the kernel, and also the last kernel before apple changed the flushing the caches function in the kernel... that is how the problem of using cpus=1 problem started... and how kabyl found the solution... by replacing the old scheduler (this is the one flushing the caches/buffers) with the new one... but this is only a temporary solution right now as kernel becomes duct taped together... and network drop is very parallel to this problem... if flow was the problem, i used flow disabled driver and had the same results... it s not the flow, but how the network works... everything you receive in the network, is framed into small packets, and these packets later brought together with network protocols and makes the full pieces... while doing this, things has to be cached/buffered and put together later for meaningful big piece... this is where the problem lies... when the caches/buffers are full, you need to flush them in order to continue operating, but somehow this flushing function is not operating as it should... restarting or reloading the drivers is the only way at the moment to flush the network buffers/caches (reloading also doesnt work on some mobos)... I explained this many times already in this topic... for the sleep function, i already added update package with the kernels (kabyl's nohpet and netkas's sleep kernel both work w/o cpus=1) and drivers on the post#2, please read the post#2 regulary as I update it time to time to reflect more frequent problems/concerns and questions and also drivers/updates.... 1. Check with my signature, I can sleep and wake up with netkas' nonhpet kernel, but cpus=1. With kaybl's kernel, I can't sleep and wakeup, but not need to use cpus=1.2. For Rtl8139 drop off, I think it's caused by Leopard Network Framework, which prevents flow control for RTL8139. Don't know why! Envying
Mysticus, I have to agree with you somehow on the NIC driver issue, maybe I haven't really looked it into with much detail. But I did quickly go through tiger 8139 and Leo 8139 source, there are some differences. Cause Tiger version doesn't have any code for displaying flow control, but Leo does. But even Tiger version kext wouldn't work on Leo, that's why I thought it might be something related to network.framework, or it could be as you said related Kernel. I am not exactly sure. For sleep and wake up, like I said before, I am using kabyl's nforce Kernel with both cores working, but it can't function well on it. If you have another kernel which can run with both cores and sleep/wakeup well, could you please post a link for dl? Really appreciate what you have done on Nforce chipset mobo, and to the OSX86 community as well. I am still learning, glad to have you to discuss, keep up the good work. And Kabyl helps me a lot on this as well, many thanks to him! Mysticus C*
you can get the kernels from irc? or you can download the update package on my post#2, I told you to check/read the post#2 did you do it? if not do it, now, looks like you didnt read it yet... the driver you are using for 8139, is from tiger, there is one told to be recompiled for leo, same result either... driver itself has buffering/caching/flushing functions, they are teh ones needs to be studied i think, as this is not only 8139 issue, any old card that has old drivers (if you see all the network drivers are made around 10.4.8 or earlier) on nforce has this same issues... Edit: There is a possibility that you may be right as well, problem may in the network frameworks as well, I dont know... but two drivers that are identified on the post#2 works w/o problems... thats why i keep saying it is in the drivers...
