thanks a lot!

has anyone tried to use the recommended gear on remote-buddy's website, without remote buddy?

i was thinking that it might just work anyway..

is there a driver for the apple remote singled out from the leo image, so that it can be used in windows as well?

cheers,

:laser:

Hi.

I have a microsoft eHome reciever (no trouble)

and a Logitech 525 Harmony remote, programmed as apple remote.

Works fine, with apple remote as well.

The Logitech response is a little slower than the apple remote, but it operates everything.

Mira seems ok for the software.

Mira seems ok for the software.

From http://twistedmelon.com/mira/hardware.html

Requirements

  • Any Mac with USB
  • Mac OS X 10.4.x
  • Apple Remote or SiK Rex
  • IR Receiver*

Could you please confirm it's working under Leopard?

I already have a microsoft eHome reciever and microsoft remote.

I have to buy an Apple Remote and Mira, riight?! Thank you!

Ciao,

Works fine in my iAtkos leopard.

You can try the Mira demo software, after 15 days or so it reduces the number of programs you can control with your remote, until you buy.

Thank you Minnie! I've just bought an Apple Remote for 12€ ;)

P.S.: I loooove Melbourne!!!

why dont you just buy the apple irda and wire it to a internal USB port! 100% working - just make sure you get the right board.

You mean Apple Part No. 922-3585 ?

I don't know, i already have the Microsoft ehome irda, the imon reciever integrated in my case (Silverstone lc10m) and this would be the third...

The apple irda has an 8 pin connector and the mainboard has 9 pin connector... do i have to change connectors or will it fit anyway?

  • 2 weeks later...

i got the Keyspan RF remote for front row. Being RF it works anywhere in my house

it is nice and small

it has 9 buttons. it has buttons equivalent to the 4 arrow keys, then one to open front row. Also has one to pause and start (enter?) It has a mute volume key. (in front row, up and down arrow raise and lower volume). It has an eject key, to eject dvd drive (f12). and finally, it has a sleep key. I am sure the sleep button would work if my computer could sleep

It seems like the possibility of using a real Apple IRDA board is unlikely. I just bought one of those Keyspan remotes for $13 on eBay. The description blurb says it's used, but the body/typed description says new.

There are two left (Keyspan RF Remote Front Row Control For Mac ER-RF1 New). Seems like a good price outside of clearance deals, since I remember this design Keyspan remote from ages ago.

I got my Keyspan remote today and it works as advertised. Something to note is that the volume +/- is just up arrow/down arrow, so it won't control volume outside of Front Row like a regular multimedia keyboard would.

Menu/sleep/eject all work, and mute works outside of Front Row. Otherwise, the directions are just arrow keys, and play/pause is just space. It will also wake the computer from sleep.

Hm I saw this and thought, "that'd be cool if..."

so...I have an HP dv2000 SE. Came with a remote for media center (not the most comfortable remote. it's small like the mac remote but not as nice to hold, odd shape).

Anyway....the laptop does have a built in IR and this remote...and it works! woah. Crazy.

Although I can't seem to find the button that brings up the menu. The up/down just scrolls up/down in browser. Back in browser history as well. The volume up/down/mute works.

Ok..and as I just was afraid to push (but found out anyway) the "power" button on the remote puts the computer to sleep. When I saw it go black I was like {censored}..but the lights were still on so pressed again and voila.

not to be off topic but the buttons along the top of the laptop also work to change volume and such.

So since I have some inactive buttons....is there any application that can assign those frequencies? So I can map out the missing functions?

The reason it probably works is because it's all hardware-based. The multimedia keys on the keyboard work the same as those on USB keyboards (without needing drivers). I don't know if there's any way to make the other remote functions work. Maybe remap the menu (CMD+Esc) to whatever the remote sends. This is assuming it's not using Apple's IR kext.

ok, maybe someone with the keyspan front row remote can help me out.

the remote is supposed to be able to start up front row but mine doesnt allow me to do this. i have to manually go open the program using apple-esc or clicking on the program in the dock.

once im in the program, everything works fine. am i missing something?

thanks.
