New version :

- Speakers and jack output should work

- Jack input should work (tested with a simple mic)

To install :

- Copy the AppleHDA.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

- repair permissions

You should also maybe remove AppleAzalia.kext

If doesn′t work : try to first use HdaPatcher with whatever codec file, and then retry to install the AppleHDA.kext

If it still doesn t work, try to get your codec file, i ll try to see what doesn t work ;)

This works for me on my Inspiron 1520 C2D with 10.5.1 for Sigmatel 9205. I do have a few problems, though sound in general works.. First.. The machine goes through the powerdown process, (screen off and everything) but it doesn't actually turn off now until I hold the power button for 10 seconds. Second.. The Mute button doesn't work, it gives me the onscreen overlay Icon with the grey speaker and the slashed out circle, which is the same icon I get if no audio drivers are installed. The volume up and down do work, however. Something tells me there is still a little work to be done ... but off to a good start :)

Still no success on my vostro 1700 :( AppleAzaliaAudio didnt exist.Im gonna try hda patcher and then apply the new kexts and/or the plist.info!How did you get the codec-dump? With Tarugas Patcher2.0 kexts or with linux?
I downloaded livecd from sidux.com .. it was really easy - boot - enable soundcard - make a dump with the command from the first page of this thread..

Ok, I've made a progress.. :) I've installed Paulo's kext and when I go to sound > output options and I choose headphones, i CAN her the sound in it! I was really happy to hear my favourite christmas song! :P

But speakers doesn't work. I can't try mic.. Mute doesn't work too (i can see in leo, that it's mute, but it's not working)..Anyway, thank you very much Paulo!

New Version :

I added automatic switch between Headphones and Speakers :)

Mute stil doesn′t work.

It s a bit difficult for me to explain how i do that.

In fact, I only modify the info.plist, i take example on the 9200 one which work well.

It seems that the codec file describes ″nodes″ in the sound card :

From my codec :

Node 0x0d [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x400181: Stereo
 Pincap 0x083f: IN OUT HP Detect
 Pin Default 0x90170310: [Fixed] Speaker at Int N/A
Conn = Analog, Color = Unknown
 Pin-ctls: 0x00:
 Connection: 1
 0x10

Node 0x10 [Audio Output] wcaps 0xd0c05: Stereo Amp-Out
 Amp-Out caps: N/A
 Amp-Out vals:  [0x44 0x44]
 Power: 0x0

Some nodes have connections (like 0x0d) to others.

It seems that in Info.plist, we have to describ how to connect those nodes.

For example, to have speakers work, i have to connect the speaker node (0x0d) to an Audio Output node.

Thus, i have info.plist with that

<dict>
								<key>NodeID</key>
								<integer>13</integer>
							</dict>
							<dict>
								<key>Amp</key>
								<dict>
									<key>Channels</key>
									<array>
										<dict>
											<key>Bind</key>
											<integer>1</integer>
											<key>Channel</key>
											<integer>1</integer>
										</dict>
										<dict>
											<key>Bind</key>
											<integer>2</integer>
											<key>Channel</key>
											<integer>2</integer>
										</dict>
									</array>
									<key>MuteInputAmp</key>
									<true/>
									<key>PublishMute</key>
									<true/>
									<key>PublishVolume</key>
									<true/>
									<key>VolumeInputAmp</key>
									<false/>
								</dict>
								<key>NodeID</key>
								<integer>16</integer>
							</dict>

I don t really know what are all the parameters in the codec file :thumbsup_anim:

That s the same for Input and headphones.

Hope it will help some people :D

It's great, the automatic switch works! I really appreciate your help!!!

But my internal speakers doesn't work.. i looked on my codec dump and yours and they're a little bit different.. but a little bit..

but i don't think that it's important for info.plist..

difference is in

Pin Default 0x400000fa: [N/A] Line Out at Ext N/A

Conn = Unknown

Pin-ctls: 0x24: IN

is it important for info.plist? Can i get them working somehow?

Hi!

I got my vostro 1700 Working!

How i did it:

I made my own codec with sidux live-cd.

Then i used the HDAPatcher 1.20 but with no success.

Then i tried the latest kext of paulo - voila - works fine. Autodetection is workin!

Speakers - working

headphone-jack - working

everything else - not tested

Could you provide a step-by-step of what you did to make this work? Thanks

What I did first was reinstall iATKOS because I screwed up a few things...

Then I deleted AppleAzaliaAudio.kext in the /System/Library/Extensions folder.

I copied Paulo's AppleHDA.kext into the /System/Library/Extensions folder and it replaced the old one.

Then I repaired and verified permissions in disk utility.

Then I used a SigmaTel 9205 codec and patched it with AppleHDAPatcherv1.20

Then I rebooted.

Then it wasn't working so I copied Paulo's AppleHDA.kext into the /System/Library/Extensions folder and replaced the one I previously put even though they are exactly the same.

Then I repaired and verified permissions in disk utility and rebooted.

Now I have the internal speakers working with output and input.

Hope this helps, although I basically did what everyone else has been doing... nothing really different. :)

Thank you so much! I repeated your steps and it started working for me. I really really appreciate you taking the time to list what you did :-)

I tested the new kext of paulo:

line-in works fine! I cant adjust sensitivity - but its okay!

Switchin between internal speakers and external output works perfectly.

volume control also working

mute-button not working

internal mic not working

I attached my Codec-file maybe thats helping you!?

Saepe, I also have a Vostro 1700, but have not been able to get the line-in working, or switch between heaphone and speaker properly. What is the"nex kext"? Can you tell me which method you used to patch this? Thanks.

Got it. Confirmed: Paulo's latest kext works brilliantly on a Vostro 1700. I had so many appleHDA.kext files that I got them mixed up!

Line-in working, no adjustment possible, but the level seems workable for recording.

Perfect switching between built-in speakers and headphones.

Unrelated thought: my Vostro 1700 has two hard drive bays, one of which is empty. I might try to install add a subwoofer in the empty bay, and hook it up to the built-in speaker lines!

I use the preview patch of the AppleHDA.kext of paulo and work with volume control but no mute . But then i install the new update of yesterday and then nothing works it controls but there no sound so I get back to the other version and everything works again. I dont know why it does not work the switch part .
