Hey guys, keep us posted on the Dell Inspiron 1520 Internal MIC

Problem, and I also want to thank marcone-xiii for simplifying the

audio fixing how to! :-)

Also for you people having trouble finding the file NVInstallerV.31.pkg

for fixing the 8600M GT 256mb here is the raw address, straight from

the server (as the site does not have a clickable link anymore)

Enjoy:

Thanks

marcone-xiii, I have installed Leo on external usb disk. I tried your method on my Vostro 1500, but restart and shutdown doesn't work. Audio works fine!!! I don't know, maybe I did something wrong. I repaired the permissions with sudo -s and sudo!!!

hey macrone i am sorry but your method does not work on dell 1520 when i used your method with v1.18 i lost sound.

so plz post tested methods only.

i have to use wake/sleep hot corner to start my display on log on and shut down problem still exists, if any body has solution to these two problems plz post here.

is mac os x 10.5.2 available and would it be better to update iatkos or will there be any other new version coming up by uphuck etc

I found a solution to this restart/shutdown problem, which should work on all Vostro 1500/Inspiron 1520 (and possibly all other Dells) with a Sigmatel 9205.

It goes like so;

1. Reinstall Leopard

(Lame, I know. I suppose you could restore all the files that Taruga's patcher changes)

2. Use Taruga's AppleHDA Patcher version 1.18 and not any other version.

AppleHDAPatcherv1.18.zip

3. Drag this codec dump onto the patcher and let it have it's way with it.

Stac9205.txt

4. Replace /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext with this one.

(Ignore any error messages stating it is unusable or corrupt, the next step fixes this)

AppleHDA.kext.zip

5. Fix permissions. Type "diskutil repairPermissions /" without the quotes, in a terminal window, as root.

Reboot and you're good.

Summary of what should be working, based on my own success:

Audio works, obviously :P

Headphones work, as does switching between speakers/headphones.

Line/Mic-in works

Mute works

Multimedia buttons work

RESTART & SHUTDOWN WORK! ;)

The only thing missing here seems to be the internal mic :D

To my best of knowledge, this is the latest kext here, which is based on the one from paulo-131. I'm sure some of you will be able to put more light on this.

Maybe one of you wicked kexters could have a look at this internal mic issue but most importantly I would like to express my sincere thanks for actually getting so far. Well done people!

Edit: Perhaps worth mentioning that I am using Kalyway on my Vostro 1500, which has bluetooth working out of the box.

1520 user here, specs in sig.

Somebody help me. No matter which version sound setups I try, I always get a crash afterwards.

I am using iATKOS_v1.0ir2

I put that on first, then I do the 10.5.2 update with the proper instructions from this site, only copying the

2 files from my backup when done, ..

cp -R /System/Library/Extensions_backup/AppleSMBIOS.kext /System/Library/Extensions

cp -R /System/Library/Extensions_backup/AppleACPIPlatform.kext /System/Library/Extensions

Up to that point everything is working find except sound and wireless.

Then Ive tried the various steps to get sound working and everytime I get a panic.

Unable to find driver for this platform ACPI

thats the first line of the panic.

Even If I try just modifying the AppleHDA.kext gives me a panic.

OK now here's the dump part that just happened as I was typing this. I had a panic screen. Decided to try booting to safe mode with the -x and it booted up into safe mode fine. Then I rebooted and I was able to boot up fine, but no sound.

I tried some mp3s and a apple .mp4 video. No sound. nothing at started, all my sliders work but no sound.

What am I doing wrong?

All of you own a 8600 m gt 256 in their laptop :

could you explain the way you managed to install it, step by step, for newbees,

which package

how to clean install (from hfs, not fat32)

how to repair permissions

how to get the same result as you

ps I got a vaio ar51su, but the 8600m gt is recognised as 32 mb, so no acceleration...

many thanks for your time

and a great viva to all participants and administrators !

What I did first was reinstall iATKOS because I screwed up a few things...

Then I deleted AppleAzaliaAudio.kext in the /System/Library/Extensions folder.

I copied Paulo's AppleHDA.kext into the /System/Library/Extensions folder and it replaced the old one.

Then I repaired and verified permissions in disk utility.

Then I used a SigmaTel 9205 codec and patched it with AppleHDAPatcherv1.20

Then I rebooted.

Then it wasn't working so I copied Paulo's AppleHDA.kext into the /System/Library/Extensions folder and replaced the one I previously put even though they are exactly the same.

Then I repaired and verified permissions in disk utility and rebooted.

Now I have the internal speakers working with output and input.

Hope this helps, although I basically did what everyone else has been doing... nothing really different. :afro:

I could kiss you man. Man I really like tinkering around with this but it really helps when people post good instructions. Because sometimes it doesnt work the first time. I been struggling with audio over the last few days, but this one post led me straight to a solution. So for that, you get my gratitude.

Hi There,

This is what you are looking for the

256MB 8600M GT: h**p://scottdangel.com/files/NVInstallerV.31.pkg

The original link was deleted of the site.

I hope this works.

Thanks

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a few days, reading through the posts and trying every single method, and I am still unable to get my audio working. The tricky part about my situation is that I actually have a Gateway E155c (tablet) with the sigmatel 9205. I tried using all the dell codec dumps, as well as the gateway one that popped up on page 4. I have been using the HDApatcher to install these codecs.

I also tried going into linux and dumping my codec from there, but that was unsuccessful too. I have attached that dump, and I would appreciate any help that may be offered!

The codec.txt is my dump from linux, and the gatewaycodec was the codec that was posted in page 4, just for comparison.

Thanks

Hi , well , im kinda new with installing OS X in a Vostro 1700 . I got everything running except Audio, Card Reader and Reboot.

If someone could write a tutorial on how to set up the audio would be great. Since I dont know even how to manage KEXT.

Thanks a lot in advance , after i get the audio working I'll write a tutorial on how did I installed it with a Windows XP partition

My config is

Core 2 Duo 1.4 Ghx

2 Gb Ram

Nvidia 8400M

Dell Wireless 1390

Ethernet Broadcom 440x

Hello marcone-xiii,

Your AppleHDA.kext file is great but for some reason it doesn't work 100% for my laptop (Gateway m6816). Everything works but sound. The icon's sound appears in the toolbar, i can set all the configurations in system preferences/sound but the sound doesn't work. I've tested another AppleHDA.kext and the sound works perfect but the mute button and the shutdown process don't work.

Do you think you could adapt the functions from your AppleHDA.kext to the one i've attached in this post?

Thank you very much for any help,

Check out my post one page back. If you have the sigmatel 9205 it should work for u too. Because I thought I did everything perfect and my sound wasnt working but then I read the post I quoted and did the steps exactly like he said and it worked. Everything but mute that is, but I dont mind that small issue.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I have a Vostro 1500, so I have Stigmatel 9205. But I have had no luck getting the audio to work. It says HD Audio in the system preferences and I have the audio icon. All the buttons seem to function, but there is no sound.

When I drag Stac9205.txt into the patcher, it reports back "Unsupported Sigmatel codec". Any suggestions?

I've been ploughing though the forum in search of a working solution for the sound on my Vostro 1500...

Although I've got the same Stac9205 dump as gkrangers (checked with "diff") my sound refuses to work!

I must say in the end it get's a bit confusing... Al the different kext versions, Stac dumps etc...

@gkrangers Could you tell which versions from HDApatchers, and kext you've used to get the sound working??

Thanks!!

codec.txt

I have an intel 945GNT motherboard. Intel lists the onboard sound as Sigmatel 92xx - either 9200 or 9223.

I dowloaded a codec dump for a 9223 card & ran that with Tarugas applehda patcher 1.20 & got sound out working in stereo. it detects the line in & my digital out. i havnt tested the digital out or the line in yet. I have the volume control on the task bar & it works correctly.

i've attached the codec dump i used.

Sigmatel9223CodecDump_2.txt

New version :

- Speakers and jack output should work

- Jack input should work (tested with a simple mic)

To install :

- Copy the AppleHDA.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

- repair permissions

You should also maybe remove AppleAzalia.kext

If doesn′t work : try to first use HdaPatcher with whatever codec file, and then retry to install the AppleHDA.kext

If it still doesn t work, try to get your codec file, i ll try to see what doesn t work :)

My 1720 works with sound now.

This method is useful.

Thanks a lot.

this method worked for me too!! Gateway M-6816 with the 9205 with built in stereo and pluged in external. Built in Mic works as well! sweet! I love this place man. 1 down....2 more to go. Power saver (no battery detected) and Wireless (3945)
