Hey all, (my first post!)

After two days messing with OSx86 installs and the Kalyway DVD, I finally got my system to boot. :D

Specs:

P5K Premium (P35 chipset)

Core2Quad 6600 @ 3.6Ghz :)

4GB RAM

MSI 8600GT

Maxtor 200GB IDE dedicated to OSX

Seagate 400GB SATA Vista OS

Seagate 500GB SATA Storage

Lite-on SATA DVD burner

My first attempt was to use the Brazilmac flatimage install, but that never seemed to work, so I wanted to try this Kalyway install.

Issued I had were:

DVD install started up with no extra parameters, just fire it up. Formated and partitioned the 200GB hdd, start the install. It would reboot right before getting to the 100% installed screen. (I thought it was done, never seen an osx install before)

After the reboot, it would hang at the gray screen with the circular load icon. Using -v -f looked like the nvidia drivers were failing. Re-did the install, this time, no nvidia drivers at all. It worked! Got the 100% installed screen, proper reboot, and it came up all on it's own! :)

Now my issue is I'm stuck at 1024x768. My 24" LCD native res is 1920x1200!!

How do I go about manually installing nvidia drivers??

Welcome this n00b to Kalyway! :D

*EDIT*

Looks like I need to use natit or nvinject but 8x00 support is sketchy... :(

Anyone have suggestions on a 256MB MSI 8600GT?

*EDIT 2*

I got my MSI 8600GT OC 256MB video card to finally work! Man, this looks absolutely fantastic... :)

Credit goes to this site, a nice nVidia driver package with all the necessary componets.

Again, thanks go to all the great info on this site and Kalyway and team!!

it is not due to the vanilla. All informations here come from the AppleSMBIOS.kext. And this one is the one from the EFI package. So they left hack.in.tosh, but i do not know why

Hi Dune, but maybe there is a way to change the AppleSMBIOS.kext.or maybe reinstall it,or extract it from leo dvd

ENDLESS REBBOot problem

I faced a problem :) . I have successfully installed Leopard but after the installation, on booting, Darwin boot would appear, it says press any key to enter start up option. After pressing any key, it would restart by itself. I have tried pressing -legacy, -r , cpus=1, -x, -s but the endless reboot is still there. How can I boot into leopard? Please help me, I have tried for many hours and I am really helpless :D Thanks in advance.

My comp is P4 3.0ghz with SSE2 and SSE3 support

I have installed using Mbr and I have also checked the vanilla option.

Please help :(

You cannot use the Vanilla kernel...that is only for Core based CPUs. Your P4 must use the patched kernel. Only by upgrading to a Core series CPU will you be able to use the stock kernel and have full use of Software Update.

hi kaly

happy new year

im using GMA950 and have artifacts /mouse tearing issue i want to update AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext currently using v1.4.20 and want to update to v.1.5.18

how can i do this i have read in insanely mac forum that replacing this kext can fix this issue and also read that it is the problem with post patch that causes this.

your dvd also have this problem as im using your 10.5.1 dvd pls tell me how can i fix this problem.

thanks for everything kaly the great :)

Hi Dune, but maybe there is a way to change the AppleSMBIOS.kext.or maybe reinstall it,or extract it from leo dvd

Here is mine:)

Make a copy of AppleSMBIOS.kext. Save it to somewhere safe.

Make another copy of AppleSMBIOS.kext for modification.

Right click on AppleSMBIOS.kext -> Show Package Contents. You will see a folder Contents.

Open Contents, you will see a folder MacOS.

Open folder MacOS, you will see a file AppleSMBIOS.

Use a Hex editor, read the pic2 carefully. There you will see thing like Hack.88Z.int.Oh, Mac Pro...

In pic3, that's what I edited. Make sure you match the length carefully. When you are sure, put it back into

/System/Library/Extensions. Use diskutil to repair permission. delete Extensions.mkext in /System/Library.

Reboot. You will have you very personalized Mac. :)

Hi! I have nForce 650i SLI chipset.

When i install (with vanilla kernel) Kalyway DVD after installation whan it boots up to HDD it just restarts. I have tried cpus=1 -legacy -v -x but nothing works.

AND when i boot up to DVD with vanilla switch it does the same.

Can it be the vanilla kernel will never work on my Hac?

What i have to do?

Oko

Hi Dune, but maybe there is a way to change the AppleSMBIOS.kext.or maybe reinstall it,or extract it from leo dvd

but why do you want to change it ???? this one is perfect for EFi. do not take the original one cos memory frequency and some stuffs will be reported false. This is just cosmetic. Or do like MacPaq did, but don't change this kext.

To answer razorbladex401, who had the install hang with 6 minutes remaining:

I had the same problem with an ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard (ICH8R/JMicron). I fixed it by setting the JMicron Controller to "IDE" instead of AHCI. I'm currently using the following BIOS settings:

  • Change SATA controller to "Enhanced"/"AHCI"
  • HD audio Controller - Enabled
  • JMicron: IDE (not AHCI!!)
  • Advanced -> CPU
    • Max CPUID Value Limit: Disabled
    • Vanderpool Technology: (Recommended: Disabled)
      • Note: I've been trying: Enabled seems to work too
      • Note: You can't change this from a normal reboot on a P5B. You must power off and power back on; otherwise, the Vanderpool option is grayed out.

[*] CPU TM Function - Enabled

[*] Execute Disable Bit: Enabled (VERY IMPORTANT)

    [*] Power

    [*] ACPI 2.0 Support - Enabled

    • NOTE: I may disable this, since S1 (POS only) doesn't seem to work. POS is "Power on Suspend". The Mac seems to crash if it gets suspended. S3 is "suspend to ram", which seems even riskier.
    • ACPI APIC - enabled (I can't find this option in the BIOS)

Hi all!

I tried to install this with vanilla kernel on my system, which should support vanilla (specs in signature). I chose to partition as mbr (the hdd is empty), select only Vanilla_kernel, vanilla_acpi_fix and boot_efi_mbr; it installs well, but it just keeps rebooting imediately after starting.

Started with -v, imediately paused the screen and managed to take the attached picture.

If I try to boot the dvd with -vanilla option, there is almost the same error; the first lines are different.

In BIOS, I have cpuid max to disabled, execute disable bit to enabled. As for acpi 2.0 and acpi apic options, they aren't present.

I'm trying now to install without vanilla, but it won't be enough for me; I want vanilla kernel! :D If anyoane can advise, please do so.

I managed shutdown on Gigabyte 965P DS3 - it works for me and for my friend too...

Use netkas sleep kernel and during boot just press F8 and write cpus=2 if you have dual core CPU.

If you don't want still pressing F8, edit your com.apple.Boot.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Under section "Kernel flags" write cpus=2 save and reboot. If you let kernel recognize amount of cpus by itself, the shutdown won't work.

Finally it works without any danger of kernel panic!

Found Kalyway 10.5.1 zip at PB and it's uploaded by kalyway, but hash is different to that quoted. Also found the rant below

kgulaalex at 2008-01-09 20:07 CET:

DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL

i have succesfully installed leopard on

Sempron64 2600 2x512 ram ati9550 256mb

IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR HARD DRIVE

IT HAPPENED TO ME. IT IS NOT A JOKE. THIS WILL CRIPPLE YOUR BOOT FILES:

"invalid partition table"

WITH LUCK YOU CAN INSTALL VISTA BUT NO XP

if you have already installed... leopard is stuck on 60hz refresh rate with no ati drivers and it is IMPOSSIBLE OT RUN WINDOWS APPS ON IT. You will get error.

.

.

.

YOU RISK PERMANENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER WITH ANY LEOPARD INSTALLATION.

I am not a n00b and i will not touch os x again after what happened. I AM STILL UNABLE TO INSTALL XP and writing from vista

"invalid partition table" at boot. BEWARE AND DO NOT DOWNLOAD. i had a perfect case install and still...

DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL ON YOUR OWN RISK. COMPUTER PERMANENTLY DAMAGED WITH ANY LEOPARD NOT JUST THIS ONE. it`s because of hfs.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

i wrote this to prevent otherf from experiencing what i have gone through.

If kgulaalex is this outlandish and feels a need to say "I am not a n00b," he/she apparently is one...or is a total moron. Dammit! I can't run Windows apps on my Leopard install either! WTF??? ;-)

Maybe it's an anti-OSx86 advocate trying to scare people from it. I certainly agree that it's not for everyone to mess around with (e.g. the whiners who spam the forums with the same ignorant demands for help over and over). I kinda think as the installers have become easier and easier to use and news of OSx86 spreads wider and wider, too many...uh...less-than-intermediate users are trying it and expecting it to be the same experience as an actual Mac (if they've even used one!).

Having HP pavilion laptop SSE2,pentium M.have installed sucessfully many time. But the problem is it doesnt always boot .hangs in blue screen.have to restart many time to boot. any idea? i did not try no vanilaa since my system is sse2. I have choosen efi Mbr and sse2 from the options while installing .

Don't work for me. I'm still using cpus=1 to boot with vanilla kernel. i don't now if there is the same issue with patched kernel.
Hi sonotone, did you repair permissions after removing that kext? I think possibly the problem is that you are using the Vanilla kernel rather than the patched one, I don't know, but I do know there are problems with some Dell laptops and GMA X3100. errandwolfe set up a thread which might be worth looking into. At the time of writing this is the url

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry508694

If that url changes, the name of the thread is: Leopard Laptops with NON-working GMA X3100, This is a place for people who can't get their GMA X3100 Working

Best of luck. :thumbsup_anim:

I did, but still the same problem. I can't try with a patched kernel cause i get KP at startup. Thank for the lik, but i'm not using GMA x3100.

Maybe this prob is connected with Efi bootloader.

Well I'm stumped. I've now tried 3 different burners, Samsung Writemaster, Apple Superdrive, a Sony DVD-DL, 3 different types of media, Ritek DVD+R, Maxell DVD-R, Verbatim DVD+R, redownloaded the image using Azureus instead of uTorrent, verified MD5s, used different burning programs, IMGBURN, CDBurnerXP, Nero, Disk Utility, Disco, always at lowest burn rate available. NOTHING will install on 3 PCs I've tried (my below gaming rig, my AMD HTPC, and a Dell GX270 at work.) I've wasted about a dozen recordable DVDs now.

I got the torrent from TPB...should I have gotten it elsewhere? Or what could I possibly be doing wrong?

On the discs that actually boot up and get to the installer, I first erase the drive I want to use with Disk Utility, make it MBR partitioned with a single large Mac HFS+ Journaled partition, then I select Vanilla + ACPI, and MBR Boot Loader, then I skip disc check. EVERYTIME after that...it goes for a few minutes, then fails at "failed to verify BasePackage."

This is driving me insane. About a month ago, I was trying to install Leopard that I had downloaded on my Mac Mini. I had the exact same error! Over and over! I ended up just copying Leopard from a Mac at work.

Please!!! Someone tell me what the :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: I'm doing wrong!

I have this problem also, and cannot get a straight answer as to why it's happening.

Here's some things you can try, but did not work for me:

1. Try without stock kernel.

2. Try MBR and GUID partition scheme both, if one fails, try the other.

3. Constantly move your mouse during install.

None of those tips worked for me. :(

It´s probably just a bios problem. Look for Dune31´s Bios-Settings in this thread.
