gtzpower, yea I did everything but the remove part and it didnt work. Once i did the remove and then loaded those two files with kexthelper it worked. I nearly fainted..haha

Oh man, now you have me captivated and excited!!! I can't wait to get home (now this afternoon will seem last forever though)

No luck, same issue. Black screen on the internal monitor, and on an external monitor, I get a blue screen. I tried (for the first time) switching from external display to the internal display (fn+f8), and that got the intermal display to come on, but it was nothing but horizontal white lines. I hit it again, and the external monitor came on with white horizontal lines, but a little thicker. On the external display, I could see a reaction to mouse movement (not a cursor, but an extra torn case of mouse tearing).

Maybe this is a clue?

are u sure you have GMA X3100?/Maybe you have GMA 3100 which are 2 diff models

Thats what was happening to me before, when i connected an external monitor. Try it a few more times, remember to repair permissions and double check that you went through all the steps and that the files are removed. Use terminal to sudo rm -rf the files specified. If you have a GMA 950 then these instructions probably wont work, but make sure that your about this mac says GMA X3100 and the device ID matches up properly.

Other than that, maybe you can post what happens with different things, or through PM so taht this topic isnt cluttered.

Here is a direct copy and paste of my system profiler. This has to be the x3100 based on the info here right? Plus, when I bought this laptop, it said x3100 (though there could have been an error in the listing, the profiler doesn't lie... right??). I am going to give it another try using rm -rf (i was deleting in the GUI)

Sorry, I am new to video stuff, I tried to compress these and got them to about 1/4 the size, but they are still big. If you want to, watch first hand what I am doing and let me know if I am doing something wrong.

Updating Kexts video (40ish mb)

The Reboot (also 40ish mb)

The kexts getting installed are from AJ.Allens zip, and the Graphics update comes directly from Apple.com.

Feel free to respond via PM, and if you need any info from me at all, (SSN anyone?) just let me know. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get this going (as long as it costs less than a 17" 1920x1200 MBP I want the full keyboard too though.

gtzpower, do an ls command after youre all done with the sudo rm -rf AppleIntelGMAX3100FB* command. and one more after sudo rm -rf Natit* copy the output of each of those to here. also, did you make sure you set the active corner properly? other than that everything looks okay..EDIT: nevermind, just watched the second vid, ignore the active corner comment

do you have a password required on bootup? if so, get rid of it. maybe try leaving it in the bottom right corner for 10 seconds or something?

EDIT: just tried leaving the cursor in the bottom right for a good count of 10. no luck. I should note, the backlight is out and everything. Don't know if that matters, cant have too much info though.

No request to login on boot. I am removing ALL x3100 kexts to boot, but once I am booted I install the graphics update and only remove the 3100FB and Natit. Here's my terminal output (3 ls calls, one before, during, and after):

what i would suggest is try removing other things, maybe try some other suggestions in these recent topics about x3100....other than that, i did exactly what you did and got the thing working magically. not sure if i was just lucky or what, but its about damn time i get lucky with mac haha

try the kalyway release by the way, that might do it

EDIT: An interesting development... I removed the 3100GL kext ONLY just for giggles and rebooted. It wakes up now at full resloution and I see the Icon bar across the bottom, but no menu bar at the top. There is cursor tearing, and the system is entirely unresponsive. I also noticed that my hot corner takes about 12 seconds to activate the sleep (good to know)

hmm, i think i read that was a problem with someone else in another thread. I'd use google to search this forum though, the forum search can be a pain.

Try reintalling the GL kext from the zip using the kextloader?

I tried the GL file from the zip wback to reading. ith no luck. I stripped out all 3100* kexts except for the 3100.kext and the 3100FB, and now I am booted into an operational 1920x1200 os x No QE/CI, but then again, I don't even know what that gives you. Soo, I would like to get QE/CI working, but at least graphics is no longer a show stopper I am experiencing mouse tearing and no audio, but those could use some research still.

If anyone has any tips for QE/CI, I would love to hear them. I am going to try replacing all of the kexts i deleted with the ones from AJ's zip. I will let you know how that goes.

EDIT: that didn't go so well... Well, I am off to do some reading for now

kerms, this solution you gave for me still doesnt work

If i press FN and F5 (change display) I get a small frozen apple bootloader (frozen spinning) and it just stays at that but if I slide the volume control I can hear the sound and Alt+F5 gives me voice over which I can hear.

ALSO: All my ID's are same apart from revisions number which is 3 not c

Hope someone can help me sort this out.

EDIT: Got some more info if u want. Its an integrated chip and and vista reports it as a Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset.

Anyone on this thread know how to get external display working correctly? Specifically for Dell laptops? I have the GMAx3100 and it works with the internal display with iATKOS 1.0, but external display is scrambled.

Same here. Old iATKOS 1.0ir2 works fine with QE/CI on internel 1280x800. Is there any driver for external display? Having Dell XPS1330 and both VGA + HDMI out.

I see many going back from 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 drivers to older 10.5.1 and before ones, so is there really no improved in those?

Deleting AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext, losing QE/CI and using SwitchResX doesn't sound appealling to me either.

Plus, when I bought this laptop, it said x3100 (though there could have been an error in the listing, the profiler doesn't lie... right??). I am going to give it another try using rm -rf (i was deleting in the GUI)

GimmeRed had me try lowering my resolution, and so long as I go to 1680x1050 or lower, I have QE/CI. So the drivers are working with my card, just not at the 1920x1200 resolution I so desire. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do from here? Do I need some kexts from a 1920x1200 MBP?

We might want to check to see if a Mac with the X3100 will even run @ 1920x1200. That may be where the bug is from.

When you have this working as well as it can you might want to write a guide for what you needed to do for the next person who has this combination.

Now I am not sure if this means it cannot do that resolution on the internal display, or if that statement is commonly made because no 1920x1200 screens (MackBook Pro's only?) were ever paired with the x3100. The OS is capable of producing that resolution with this card though

i have a gateway T6321 it has a Intel T2370 and 3gb of ram it also has a X3100.. i am to install Leopard but whenever it turns on it hangs up on the grey apple screen it spins for like 1 minute or less then freezes im thinking it's caused by the video card.

That makes sense that it wouldn't support it. Well kind of anyway. To be honest I didn't know it would run at 1920x1200 at all.

Actually in this setup both display 1280 x 800 and 1920 x 1200 are used side by side. The iATKOS is installed WITHOUT having selected the X3100 in "customize ...". Therefore I assume it's the stock 10.5.1 driver.

The external display is connected by means of the analog VGA connector and sleep trick is in place (hot corner) to get the display (especially the internal one) working.

The Dell XPS M1330 I'm using features a HDMI connector. I also tried using the HDMI connector, but this never worked out. And I don't think this will change anytime soon. The reason is that intel uses the SDVO/ADD2+ interface. And there are various interface components connected to this interface. Each of these needs a special driver (list taken vom intel IEGD 8.0 driver):

It's very unlikely Mac OS ships with all various drivers for those devices.

Additionally the Dell XPS M1330 uses a different one namely the Silicon Image SiI174 (and is there any Mac with HDMI at all?). It's even that special that intel had quite a lot of problems preparing a driver for this HDMI transmitter for Linux. Like those two bugs:

nVidia drivers do not have that problem. The DVI/HDMI transmitter is part of the nvidia chipset and therefore there's just one to support.
