Update:

I don't know why, but my Leopard system appears to be a bit unstable. Sometimes in the middle of a task (such as maximizing a YouTube video), the whole system would hang - mouse still moves (sometimes pinwheel) but none of the windows respond, and nothing is outputted to the logs in Console. Leaving the system on for hours does not resolve the issue. I don't know where to start? ;)

@elpelas (and everyone else who has ALC660)

try this driver (attached)

All credits go to maxoid for this driver, and if you want internal mic working too, AlexIT had a driver as well (see page... 7 of this thread)

ALC660_Working.zip

No way on my F9S, now I can see speakers and digital output as out devices and Mic as input device, but still have no sound at all on speakers and line out, no mic in too... :(

Max

try removing AppleAzaliaAudio.kext first...

have you tried changing device IDs? check your Device ID's on windows by going into the hardware manager and looking at the properties of your sound card, then look for DEV_ and PID_ (i think)

Thanks, I'll try it. In the meantime I reinstalled Azalia with same or worst results, no devices available.

Tested HDA Patcher by Taruga with a codec dump obtained from Linux again with no results.

Can you please point me to a detailed post/guide about what lines in Info need to be modified with my IDs ?

Another question, moving back to Azalia, do I have to remove both ALCinject.kext and AppleHDA.kext or can I remove only AppleHDA ?

Thanks again,

Max

For those of you having trouble with ALC 660 (and possibly others), try this:

@elpelas,

Sleep doesn't work on most notebooks. I heard it has something to do with AppleACPIPlatform.kext or something, not sure. I'm just glad that in Leopard my monitor turns off properly now.. lol

I can't seem to shut down/restart properly. I get a kernel panic on shutdown with the AppleHDA kext, and for reboot the screen goes off but hangs and does not reboot. Anyone got the same problem? It's really minor and I can live with it, but it still bugs me.

my webcam doesn't work at all. check your model of webcam (in windows, go to device manager, right click your camera and look in properties for brand, model, and dev_ and vid_ ... if you're lucky, Macam (google it) will support your webcam!

Ant

hi everybody,

i've updated my signature with my working/not working hardware. almost everything is working great... i also bought an usb wifi card d-link DWL-G122 revC1 and i have wireless internet... i've been installing software and everything is working ... openoffice, skype (with front mic and webcam), audacity, crossover, azureus, vlc, after effects, photoshop, shake... shake is rendering very good (it would be great to have the 2 cores) ...

i also get the hang that ant told

i think it's a vga/framework problem, as drivers we are using are beta still... thats overlay video problems i think...

i also get this when full screening a flash/divx web video... also mp4 podcast in iTunes/quicktime usually get my machine "confused".. also i've noticed that vlc is more robust and difficult to hang than iTunes/quicktime... you could install a firefox extension to play web videos in vlc player..

ant, whenever you get this hang (when you can move the mouse but nothing else works) i found a keyboard shortcut to force restart the system... in windows keys (if you have not remapped your keyboard keys) ctrl + alt + powerbutton

also shortcut to open force quit window>>> win + alt + esc...

sound is working great with alexit applehda 1.2.9a4 revion of maxoid work... i don't mind the mute problem as i can mute the software that it's playing sound...

my webcam was detected without any patch... it's a chicony uvc compliant 1.3 mpixel

have you find any way to remap the laptop FN keys?? is there any software based remapped tool??

restart is working... it get blank for 10/15 seconds and it restarts...

shutdown i dont have probed...

soooo im missing only 1 core and more stable vga/framework drivers to have a complete working os....

thanks again and again...

dani.

my webcam worked without any workaround nor patches... i just installed skype and it showed that i had a webcam...i laughed and begun to use it...

my device id is

04f2:b012 Chicony 1.3M UVC Webcam

sorry i dont know which are the kexts involved...maybe anyone...

dani.

Apple bundled UVC webcam drivers so most UVC webcams should work.

I've been looking EVERYWHERE for the past day or two trying to remap my fn key, to no success. If you find anything, let me know! (so far, turning volume up and down is still annoying). Otherwise, I found out how to connect my sony ericsson phone to use as a remote for iTunes :)

I'll try AlexIT's sound kexts when I get the chance...

Still looking into webcam... been digging around ebay for days on end, trying to get a really cheap webcam (I don't use it that often, but I want to do a little bit of video recording to play around on iMovie and Final Cut Express) that works with OS X. It's hard :(

Hello F3 series Owners,

I'm new to the game, I have a F3Jc, I use the iAtkos installer in vanilla mode. Now, most things work straight out except wifi, webcam....

Audio work but only thru speakers. Discovered this thread and than tried all the ALC660.kext to try to get Audio working overall inputs and outputs but whenever I remove the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext, I ended up with no audio.

I've been using Kext Helper to do all this....

I've checked my audio device id and its definitely a 660..... so i'm a bit puzzled....

Do i need to makemkext to get the driver to load, if so where to i do this.

Any help will be much appreciated.

And any noob proof guides.

Cheers Phin

hi phin, this is my device as reported from lspci -nn

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03)

i'm also running iatkos and the audio is working great *look my sig* with alcinject and applehda kexts from alexit post 137 in page 7 of this topic. the file is called HDA_129a4.tar.gz

this is a variation of applehda from maxoid on post 129

download it, unzip it and rename hda kext to AppleHDA.kext

remove or backup your azalia/applehda/alcinject kexts from /system/library/extensios/

copy renamed AppleHDA and alcinject kexts to system/library/extensions

correct permissions on the two kexts (remember to correct at least alcinject manually with chown and chmod)

remove extensions caches

and reboot

im not using the makemkext script in leopard...

maybe sometimes i use the -f flag in the darwin boot options to force to regenerate the mkext

i think that leopard regenerates the mkext automatically... just 1 minute after i remove extensions.mkext the file reappears magically in /system/library/extensions. so i only worry about correcting permissions manually and removing mkext...

i hope this helps you *also that you understand my english*

good luck

I just noticed something today.. I was installing some Apps, and now when I open up grid view of the Applications folder from my dock, the system hangs (pinwheel or normal mouse still moves, but no response). It's either because I have 67 apps in the folder or because of Limewire. Anyone experience this? A couple people told me they are getting the same hang when dealing with some videos sometimes...

I'm getting a new wireless usb dongle (zydas chipset) shipped to me in a week or two, hope it works!! B):D

Also a new small USB ethernet that I can carry around easily!

Ant

hi ant, i can count 63 apps in my finder by now. i use very often the grid view (or what i understand you call grid view *the one with 4 rows*) and im not having this type of hang... i sometimes experience a slow response when i scroll even when i move files to the trash it takes some seconds for the trash to realize that im trying to delete files...

limewire is an p2p app, isnt it? i use azureus and it, not often but sometimes, has problems with the new interface full of videos. i havent find the preference to always boot into the now called advance mode... the old good mode... anyway i think its has something to do with vga/framework/opengl/video overlay

there is another waay i can hang my system systematicly... i have a pdf.. it has a beautiful image that fits the whole first page... ok, whenever i open and resize up and down right to left... the windows, as it try to resize dinamically the image, it hangssssssssss

if there is anyone who can tellme what debug info can i send to someone involved in the nvidia drivers project i think it could be helpful...or not...

bye..

I recounted.. I have 63 apps... not sure why this happens :S

but mine doesn't lag when going around the dock... lol

my system hanged at one specific pdf file for Preview... but not others. I used Adobe Acrobat Reader and it was fine.

Hope they fix this problem in the final driver lol...

Cheers danif, just tried it out still no luck, once i put azalia back it works again. what do you mean by Ispci -nn?

Anyone with a F3Jc model...

Why is it defaulting to the Azalia.kext

Thanks

lspci is a linux command for showing your pci's device id... if you have the same audio device id 8086:284b you should get audio working with alcinject + applehda kexts...

i have found a lspci version for mac on the net... i think it was something like pcitools ... it take me sometime to finally find a mac lspci command...and i dont remember where i found it... you could also try in linux if you have any distro installed...or download a livecd... in windows you can also get this info but i dont remember exactly where...i think it was from device manager, selecting audio device and a tab called details...

or maybe just open the info.plist in azalia and find the primarymatch where you should have your device id...

if your devID is the same.. the problem should be not loading alcinject or hda kexts because of other reasons like permissions or so...

good luck

dani

hi, i've been playing with sound strings for efi to inject audio device properties...

so im now booting with this two lines added to com.apple.boot.plist and without the alcinject.kext

<key>device-properties</key>

<string>2f0100000100000001000000230100000700000002010c00d041030a0000000001010600001b7

750069006c0074002d0069006e0000000500000000</string>

do you wanna try? i think it should work for anyone with same audio device and using efi and applehda *maybe also f3sv*

just copy this two lines to the end of your com.apple.boot.plist and remove or backup alcinject.kext

if you want a howto, i followed this tutorial:

http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,104.0.html

Hey danif,

Got it to work, i had to alter the dev id to 27d8 in a couple of .plist, all is good now.

Here's a link to the altered HDA129a4 for F3Jc owners.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2mjpdidkdst

All inputs and outputs working including built in mic.

woo hoo. :D

@danif & phin

Can you please post here your results of this test kext using HDAudio5.kext.zip (HDAudio3.kext.zip doesn't work here), or a codec dump from Linux ?

I have the same HD audio controller as you, id 8086:284b but no sound at all, both with Azalia ot patched HDA.

I tested HDA129a4 from phin on my Asus F9S (ALC 660-VD) and the only working thing is internal mic.

Strange things in System Settings, I can see Internal SPK/Audio out and Digital out as available outputs, but if I try to change output device, reopening again settings, the default out is back to digital. 2 Internal MICs on input devices, one's working, the other is dead.

I'd like to check from your dump codec nodes, and try to patch HDA for this particular model (I have only 2 mini-jack connectors, line/headphones out and mic-in), perhaps changing device's node can be a solution.

Any suggestion about a working AppleAzalia kext at least for internal speakers output ?

I used the one in /System/Library/Extensions/ of the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, no audio at all....

Thanks,

Max

hi qmax, is this what you get if lspci -nn??

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03)

if this is your controller, forget applehda patch from phin, as his problem was that he had a different controller (deviceID 8086:27d8)...

so if you have the controller listed above... i paste what i think should work for you...

i'm also running iatkos and the audio is working great *look my sig* with alcinject and applehda kexts from alexit post 137 in page 7 of this topic. the file is called HDA_129a4.tar.gz

copy renamed AppleHDA and alcinject kexts to system/library/extensions

correct permissions on the two kexts (remember to correct at least alcinject manually with chown and chmod)

remove extensions caches

and reboot

use the -f flag in the darwin boot options to force to regenerate the mkext

follow carefully this steps, if you have any doubt, stop and ask here again... if you feel very lost, ask for a mini howto step by step, and i'd try to write it when i have some time...im very lazy and writting in english is such an effort...

good luck

dani

QMax,

Try this: I THINK this is the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext that gave me sound when I first installed Leopard (BrazilMac patched)

AppleAzaliaAudio.kext.zip

@All,

Just a few things I was looking at/thinking about the past two days...

1. is there any way to get the Ricoh card reader working? I was digging everywhere and nobody seemed to have it working.

2. Is it possible to get the fingerprint scanner on my F3SV to work? OSX detects it as USB "Fingerprint Sensor"... but I don't know of any drivers/software to run it... it's not a huge deal but it'd be cool to have working!

3. does anyone know how the newer ACPI and APIC extensions (don't) work and know how to fix it?

That's all for now.

Cheers,

Ant
