bunzybud
I'm following this guide but I'm getting stuck at 25% while installing. I have an evga 680i motherboard, E6700 2.66 ghz core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ram. I had JaS 10.4.8 installed and working, I have tried Kallyway, iATKOS, and now ToH RC2. I can get passed the initial boot of the DVD, formatting the HD for HFS Journaled using MBR partition, selecting the things I want installed and the things I don't, then proceeding to the DVD verification (which I skip), then to the main blue bar of installing OS X. My problem is that it seems to take extremely long, longer than it should, and seems like it's frozen but not completely. The blue bar gets about 25% and dosn't ever seem to go any farther, it shows estimated time of 5 hours and 30 mins to install. I've let it sit for 2 hours and still at 25% with no HD activity and no DVD activity, but the blue bar is still swirling and the mouse pointer will still move, and the ETA is still 5 and a half hours. Seems to happen with every install disc I've tried. I'm installing from an IDE DVD drive onto an IDE (PATA) HD. I've disconnected all the SATA drives, turned off the sudgesting things in the bios, and enabled the sudgested things. The install should only take about 20 mins from what I've read, and from what I remember from my experience installing JAS. I verified that my ToH iso has the correct MD5. Any ideas what could be holding my install up? Edit: I swapped out my DVD drive with a different DVD Drive and now it's up to 50% and seems like my drive for whatever reason may have been the issue. Hi Blueraven, I have exactly the same problem with the installer jamming up at 25%, and i am also using a EVGA680i MOBO and a old IDE drive, but my DVD rom is SATA so this is probably not our problem. Iatkos, did not work at all, Kalyway is jamming at 25% and I was already downloading Toh when I saw your post . Keep me posted if you found any workaroud. Things I know I may be doing wrong or that I want to try: I used a RW DVD instead of a DVD R only (did u?) I doubt that it could be the HD small buffer , it should work slower only. Letting the installer roll all night Disable a HD drive option in the bios. Trying GUID. messing with the install options. I you tried any of those, if you found the problem or if you (or anyone) have any other idea on how to solve the problem please let me know, Ill do the same . Good luck! MTWomg
is it at all possible to get stable lan connectivity with 2 cores? is wireless stable? I'm using a tulip-compatable card on a 650i chipset and unless i run 1 core any large file kills the lan connectivity, making leopard a PITA to use. muitommy
I am stuck at that point too, after getting to step 11 of the guide, right now. I think it's because the bootloader does not get installed when installing from the ToH disc, from what I gather. I thought that doing the "bootfix" step was supposed to fix this? Maybe I did something wrong in those steps? I found a "Format and Make Bootable HD" disc by kalyway that I'm about to try. I read that you possibly have to install tiger first to get a bootloader installed, then install leopard on top of that. I'm guessing that preperation disc would install a bootloader then I can install ToH on top of it. I'll let you know how that goes. My ToH took about 3 hours to install too, dont know why its taking so long, and I'm bummed that I'll have to sit thru another 3 again to try this but here goes Edit: I decided to give Kalyway another shot, it does indeed install the bootloader but I made the mistake of selecting vanilla kernel (later read that our chipset needs modified kernel) and it's stuck in a reboot loop. I'd reinstall Kalyway again without vanilla but it took over 10 hours and I don't want to wait that long again. Think I'll stick with ToH it only takes 2.5 hrs. Maybe now that the HD has a bootloader from kaly on it, I can install ToH ontop of that to get a working install. some of steps in boot fix you done may be wrong, try to follow the guide closely, some successful echo will be shown after your successfully input of commands. muitommy
@oko you should use the 10.5.2 kext with nvinject or natit to enable qe/ci, it's known that NVDAResman of previous will cause kernel panic golden kernel should come up with 10.5.1 i think Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/23/#findComment-570893 Share on other sites

JollyRogers
Hey guys, now I see that SATA is a possibility I am giving this another shot. I got it to install via pata, and I can get it to boot, but it gets to a part where it says it doesn't recognize my keyboard and does the push button next to shift key thing, then goes to the migrate from prior mac install(I select no prior install) and then it does some stuff and right back to the keyboard thing. I am using a usb keyboard and usb mouse. I am assuming it is doing this because of my keyboard. Is there an easy fix for this or should I go out and buy a mac keyboard (will that work with windows?)? I have looked around and found a "fix" for p/s2 keyboard but am not sure if that is what I need since this is a usb keyboard. Any suggestions? Once I get past that and the rest of "The GUIDE", I will install the sata fix, add the new drive and set it up and then carbon copy my install over. Pull my ide drive, and hopefully get it to boot. If successful then I can add my other sata drives with vista and ubuntu and update grub to triple boot the system. MUITOMMY, a detailed howto would be great... like where to get files or links etc, I saw medevil's sata fix requires me to pm him I think to get that... I don't think I will have any other problems other then I use wireless. I was thinking of just buying a wireless usb that is mac compatible and using that and pulling my pci card (I have 2 available, an atheros and a linksys). sys specs: E6600 P5N32E-SLI 8800 GTS 640mb 2xSATA 400G 1 for UBUNTU, 1 for VISTA Lousy PATA drive with OSX86 kinda installed PATA DVD-RW x2 Atheros 2320 PCI wireless Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/23/#findComment-573727 Share on other sites

JollyRogers
This is quoted from another thread. I did not renable my onboard LAN ports before rebooting into OSX and maybe that is the issue??? "I managed to get leopard to boot into the OS using the "-x" option at startup but after i setup my keyboard and it asks about the migration agent, it hangs for a short time and then loops back to the initial setup screen. I can't seem to get past it, does anyone have an answer? Simple. Or at least this was the fix for me: Leopard doesn't have your ethernet/airport kexts loaded. The next step in the welcome screen is network setup. Leopard tries to find your hardware, fails and restarts. Fix: boot into either a dvd terminal, or if you can, -s, and add your ethernet kext. problem solved" So possibly just enable my onboard LAN and it should work? or because it was disabled during install, I may have to figure out ethernet.kext issues?
