Finally, got 10.5 installed in my 2 month old system (see sig.) with a 80GB SATA HDD. Fixed the video with

BIOS settings for SATA is AHCI enabled, JMicron PATA/SATA controller disabled or else I get the "still looking for root device" message during install and boot. Used the NVinject.pkg for the 8800GTS 640mb. Ethernet (LAN2) used for internet connection , haven't check my Wireless LAN yet.

Still need to fix, will have to look around for solutions that are available here.

1. Boot without ToH x86 9A581 RC2 DVD inside SATA DVD+R.

2. Core2Duo quad core recognized as a Core 2 Solo.

2. Audio - afraid to try the p5kefix.sh

3. Time Machine.

4. Shut down/restart, worked in my first install will have to check my BIOS settings.

5. 2 SATA drives (NTFS formatted) don't mount.

Thanks to all. :P

i have been messing with this a bit

it dose work just not all of the time. i have installed it with tigher 10.4.1 about ten times just use it the most basic install that has worked 3 times with no fail, but this is only i wipe my disk from with-in vista and re-install 10.4.1 the 10.5 the updates sound and video with ati 1950 patcher and cl888 patcher and net work with the rine 2 drivers it all work untill i trid to install efi 7 and the apple simbios caused the system to hang at boot up. gunna do it some more and see is why it works some times and not others.

Update i think i might have figured out what goes wrong. Something in the script.sh "drive Name" on the toh 10.5 Disk creates an error in my Master boot record and when i do a disk fix after the install of 10.5 is almost always works. was easier to use the 10.4.1 tiger disc as it booted quicker :P hope this helps some one

Iam a new bie to leopard osx86, i tried to install ToH like this:

My laptop Toshiba M35X, celeron 1.6ghz, RAM 1 GB, 60 GB internal hard disk, partition C drive - 20 Gb XP loaded, D drive - 10 Gb primary FAT32 for Leopard and extended partition for programs.

When i tried boot ToH DVD, script runs fast and ended up with small font script and stops at the end saying" RAID driver not responding", it stops for hours nothing moves on.

what could be the problem?

Pl help

I just installed ToH on my 945GNT motherboard with a Pentium D 930 processor with 4 gigs of RAM...

Problems:

1. Unable to boot unless I have the CD in the drive,

2. The finder menu seems transparent or faded...

3. About this Mac shows only 1 core operating...

What do I need to to to fix these issues?

Ok, an update on my situation. I have been using -legacy to run with no problems. The interesting thing is that if I JUST use -f it runs fine and boots fine for about 8 minutes then gives a kernel panic when I'm in the middle of web browsing.

Since -legacy works I tried tweaking my bios as suggested numerous times throughout this thread. But nothing worked, it kernel panics during boot every time unless I use the -legacy option.

Again I don't mind editing my boot.plist to include -legacy, but am I missing out on any functionality?

Also this board has gma900. The super interesting thing is that I tried to use the gma900 driver from my JaS 10.4.8 disc. It didn't work and stays pretty much on the grey apple logo screen on reboot...but interestingly enough it gets further into the boot process with no -legacy option.

So... could the -legacy and kernel panics all be related to the video driver?

OH! and also, -x works instead of -legacy as well. This makes me think it might not be bios at all, but perhaps some driver or kext is causing me problems. Any ideas?

Hi! I am new here to the InsanelyMac forums. I have the X86 Leopard MAC OSX release but i can not get it to work on my PC.

I have four hard drives in my PC, one has a Windows XP Pro Installation (aint touching that) and the other has a Windows Vista Ultimate installation, the other two are data storage.

I aquired the X86 leopard release and i decided to give Vista a big F U and install OSX instead. But i came across some problems which i help someone can help me out with here.

I put the CD in and it loads the Kernal then when it comes to the installation GUI, it displays a black screen with some colourfull lines which change colour when i move the mouse. I have come to the conclusion that maybe it does not like my Graphics card. Below are my system specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700

Corsair 2x1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 XMS2 5-5-5-12

WD200GB IDE

WD250GB IDE

WD120GB SATA

WD250GB SATA

XpertVision HD2900XT 512MB @512-bit

So maybe mac does not like ATI cards.... can anyone help me around this problem?

Cheers,

- Vio

Ok i'm having a weird problem that no one else seems to have encountered. Everything went fine, it boots allright and i'll get the choose language, register etc dialogs... After the "do you want to transfer files from another mac" thingie, i'll get the cool os X welcome animation thing, but... instead of going to desktop i'll get all those language choosing dialogs again. And again and again. Always after the welcome animations. What to do ?

Hi,

I got the same problem. I google it and found out that it try to initialized network card and when it failed, it will go back to the welcome video. Since I know my network card & wireless card are not supported in OSX, so I just plug-in my USB wireless card and start new fresh install. I can complete the post-install process after that.

The FIXBOOT patch is not working either for me. I have to leave the Leo DVD in the drive to boot.

That script (/usr/misc/script.sh) also didn't work for me. I use Disk Utility to verify the leopard partition and it reported that there is some error, so I repair it. I run again the script. Before reboot, I verify again the partition using Disk Utility. It reported the same error, and I repair it again. I figured there is something wrong with the script, so I just reboot to see what will happen and my leopard successfully boot without using the installer DVD.

I open that script with an editor and compare it with this post. There is some differences:-

script.sh : dd if=/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/$PART bs=1 count=512

this post : dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsx bs=512 count=1

Do you guys know which one is correct?

Hi,I have fixed the boot issue with the y0eremy trick!!thx!!Now I still have a problem... When I wanna shutdown the computer...I cannot do it properly.. I hear the disk it's shutting down, and the dock, and the finder too...but still the backround image and computer freeze. I must shutdown keeping pressed the start button...Somebody have an ideas?I have asus p5b mobo ICH8R ...I have used the fix for ICH8/Jmicron of tiger and work fine.oh, I forgot, Power saving don't work too!! If computer go in sleep it will freeze also!!oh, I forgot, Power saving don't work too!! If computer go in sleep it will freeze also!!

I honestly Can't figure this out.

I have an IBM T42 that I have a perfect working copy of 10.4.8. I even swapped out the wireless on this laptop so I could get that working and it does..

Using the TOH DVD Of Leopard results in a lot of txt scrolling down the screen like in (-v) mode.. then finally.. REBOOTS. THank you have a nice day.. It'll continue to loop in this manner for eternity..

Now,. If I use a properly patched BrazilMac DVD. It actually gets to the grey screen with the spinning icon in the lower middle. That eventually will just sit there forever.. No further drive/CD Activity.

Why would Leopard not work on a Machine that runs 10.4.8 PERFECT?

This is a good install -- it works! But it's also REALLY, REALLY touchy! I've installed and re-installed and re-re-reinstalled this sucker no less than 6 times already because of various errors and problems and mistakes (as I'm an OSx86 noob). But maybe this will help some people.

So far, I've experienced a number of the same problem others have experienced -- and here's what I've done to resolve them.

1) Endless reboot cycle... After installing Leopard and removing the DVD, Darwin loads and the machine reboots right after, over and over and over again. Cause? Not running the script.sh as described in the instructions, or forgetting to cd /Volumes/ and umount <volumename> prior to running /usr/misc/script.sh

Also, you MUST remember to "exit" the terminal, shut down the terminal application and select "Exit MacOS Installer". You will then get prompted to either select a startup disk OR Reboot. DON'T TOUCH the "Startup Disk" button!!! That will serious muck things up because on my computer, it does not recognize my Leopard install as a valid startup disk -- but it starts up properly ANYWAY. I suspect the ToH hack did something "under-the-radar" here.... So as long as you don't play with this feature, you should be OK.

2) b0 error / Memory Allocation error. Possible Cause? Multiple MacOS partitions. I suspect that ToH didn't count on people configuring custom partitions. They probably only figured people would choose a single Leopard partition. My FIRST successful install of ToH RC2 involved creating 2: a MacOS partition called "Leopard" and a MSDOS partition called "WinXP" for future addition of a dual booting system.

I ONLY started getting b0 and memory allocation errors when I did a reinstall of ToH, and repartitioned the disk to have 2 MacOS partitions. 1 named "Backup" and 1 named "Leopard." When in comes time to select which partition to install Leopard to, both come up in alphabetical order... so "Backup" came first and "Leopard" second. And even though I was careful to select the correct partition, that is the only time I started to experience b0 and Memory Allocation errors.

As soon as I re-installed ToH with my original "WINXP" and "Leopard" partitions, the install went perfectly once again.

Again, I may not know much about much, but I DO know that 1) It was important for me to unmount the target disk prior to running the shell, and 2) I was unable to create more than 1 MacOS partition without getting both b0 AND MEMORY ALLOCATION errors. So perhaps the problem has something to do with the actual naming/numbering of the partitions. Maybe if ANY partition but the one that Leopard is going to be on comes first, ToH's hack isn't built to handle that so it chokes.

Good luck to everyone who's trying this release. It worked for me -- but it IS very picky as to HOW things are done.

Oh yeah, 1 more thing... This has been mentioned many times all over this forum, but I'll mention it here again. DO NOT, under any circumstances allow Leopard to update itself from the Apple website. This will render your ToH install completely useless! Updating individual apps should be OK, but don't try to do a system update. I had to learn this the hard way! In fact, I just turned off the auto-update notify feature altogether.

If it ain't busted, don't mess with it! :)

My specs:

D915GAV mobo

7300LE GeForce NVidia (by MSI)

2.5GB DDR 400 RAM

SATA 500GB HD (OEM)

IDE (made to run as SATA with an adapter) DVD+R (generic OEM)

got all versions of tiger installed on this laptop (specs on my sig) but I cant make leopard work on it.. this particular install won't boot to the GUI. I've managed to install it using the pacifist method but it will stay on the apple splash screen. no error with -v.. it just stops at "MAC Framework successfully initialized" and then something about the IO buffer and header.. It may be related to my vid card or my cpu as I have found other people with the same specs and same thing is happening.. I hope someone can give us a solution for this.. thanks.

I honestly Can't figure this out.

Hi there, just wondering if you have had any luck with this problem? I have an IBM X32 which I believe to be pretty similar in spec and have exactly the same problem!

Cheers.

Timmy1980:

No.. No luck..

I picked up a T43 and got a little further.

Repeating Welcome Screen. It has you select your Country, Keyboard Layout and then asks if you want to transfer a .MAC account.. Then Repeats ALL OVER AGAIN and never proceeds any further.

That sucks!

that sucks indeed!!! I have no issues installing jas 10.4.8 but with anything else I have problems, anything using 8.9.1 kernel seems to stop on first boot with grey screen, using -v shows that it stops at "buffer headers".... i did find out what this meant a while ago but have forgotten now.

I also have an hp nc2400 but am snookered by the battery life and the fact that the appleintelintergratedframebuffer.kext does not allow the screen brightness to be changed on the gma950 to help with battery life. also that the bios whitelist blocks the atheros pcie card that I bought!!

I just thought i know i'll try the good old X32 again but have had no luck with TOH or anything else for that matter...

Oh well back to the drawing board.

Thanks for posting a reply.

Hi,

I'm able to "skip" that problem. I have re-installed ToH leopard many time, most of them I cannot proceed because this problem. Earlier I found one post that suggest I need a working ethernet/wireless to successfully install leo. So, I just plug in my USB wireless adapter, re-install leo and I didn't face this problem again. However, after running script.sh to install the boot loader, I cannot boot into my vista. So, it is another problem now. After a couple of re-install, the USB wireless trick seem cannot fix the "Welcome" loop anymore. Then I try another trick, upgrade from tiger. I install 10.4.8 tiger (JaS), and after that I upgrade to leo using ToH dvd. Finally the looping problem is gone, and leo installation is successful. Furthermore, my boot loader already installed, no need to run script.sh anymore.

I think you can try this trick. Good luck. :)

I did the same as you Kizwan.. Basically installed 10.4.8 and logged and created a profile.. Then installed Leopard without erasing the HD..

That worked and I got to the desktop but if you did "About this MAC" it crashed. NO NIC drivers.. Sound worked though.. and a few of the apps would just randomly crash..

Very unstable..

For the heck of it I decided to install EFI 8.0. The install went well but upoun reboot it flashes up the Gray Apple Background and then immediately Panics. a -V displays an issue with IOPCCARD. Tried removing that Kext but it still Panics.

Seems there's always Something a miss.

Too bad. It seem this "trick" only work on some pc/notebook. I didn't get any random crash. All of the software is working as it should be. I haven't tested the Time Machine yet. However, there is a slight problem:-

1) I use usb wireless adapter. If I unplugged it before shutdown, system will crash at the shutdown process. The Grey Screen of Death.

2) Problem with mouse pointer when using firefox. It just left a trail of mouse pointer. No big deal, just annoying.

For no. 1, I have tested my system in a different scenario before I know the usb wireless adapter is the cause of the problem.

Overall, ToH Intel RC2 release is not really stable for my notebook. I have to wait for another release. However, I maybe continue to use this setup if there is no more major problem. If not, I maybe have to switch back to good old 10.4.8.

Cheers. ;)
