how to run cpus=1

i put dvd - run setup with cpus=1 installed os - now it restarts with error - how to start system with cpus=1

You could key in cpus=1 manually at startup or put in into com.apple.boot.plist under the kernel flag key http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Tips_And_Tricks

!!! INSTALL KALYWAY 10.5.2 on MSI P35 Platinum !!!

Tried many hackintosh Leo ISOs before but they all stacked at the boot with kernel panic. This is the first ISO which let me go far enough to boot and install Leo - without any patches and "cpu=1 -x -f" things.

IMPORTANT ! The boot worked only with these BIOS settings (as someone mentioned here before):

MPS 1.4

IOAPIC En.

ACPI S3

HPET En.

EIST Dis.

ExecuteBit En.

My default BIOS setting differ from the above - and kaly 10.5.2 did not boot till I changed to the abovementioned.

NOW the problem is that I stack at the Grey Apple screen when booting to Leo. But that is a huge step further after months of not beeing able even to load the installer. I suppose now have to try different combinations of patches and drivers during reinstall. Any recomendations highly wellkomed )))

My IRONZ:

MSI P35 Platinum BIOS 1.8

CoreDuo E6420

SATA DVD

HDD 1 - 250G SATA

HDD 2 + HDD 3 = RAID

(sata is set in raid mode - maybe it should be in AHCI - ill try to reinstall with this mode later, yet i suppose the raid mode is backward compatible with ahci)

Guys... Has anybody succeeded with a BIOS hack on MSI Neo -P35 (no-F version).

I'm facing a typical CPUS=1 problem on my quad core intel 6600. I've downloaded the BIOS file , followed instructions to use USB utility, and finally flashed the bios. Everything went smooth. I'm using leo4all installer. Installation proceeds only with CPUS=1 flag. Any suggestions?!

Installation with 9.2.2 kernel from Leo4allv3 gives (even with cpus=1):

using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

I've used Delete Firewire kexts (during installation).

Any help is appreciated...

using leo4allv3 on MSI P35 neo-F, with the hacked bios from here http://osrom.net/biosmod/but still got the "still waiting for root device" problemI enabled the "ACPI" to S1 and "AIPC function" (spell may be wrong...)got any ideas?Anything specific I should select when installing Leo4all?

Just to let you know:Leo4Allv3 supports the ATA controller on the MSI P35 NEO (Marvell 88SE6111). With the bios hack and Leo4Allv3 you can now build your MSI p35 based hackintoshs without any problems. Just make sure to boot with maxmem=2048 from the CD when you have more than 2GB RAM installed otherwise the installation freezes at the end.

Leo4Allv3 constantly freezes on install at the line

"CODE SIGNING: cs_invalid_page: p=128[lssave] clearing CS_VALID"

I've tried multiple bios settings, disabling devices, and a bunch of different switches and it always stops at this exact line every time.

Any suggestions/help?

TIA

DID IT!

Here's the short version on how to get things working with MSI P35 Platinum:

When you flash from Windows, you can use this prog from AMI:

Remember that in Vista you have to start AFUWIN.exe as Admin.

Disable Firewire in BIOS. I have only SATA-drives, so IDE is disabled, AHCI enabled.

 • Install Kalyway 10.5 with vanilla kernel, no other options checked.

I installed it on mbr partition.

 • Boot up and install JaS 10.5.3 Combo Update.

 • Works OK I think.

Thanks Derdomi,

Did you use any switches on install? (eg. -v -f ... I know that you shouldn't have to use cpus=1 anymore due to the modified bios).

I didn't try the kalyway install, but I think that I'll probably give it a go as Leo4allv3 has always left my system frozen on the above line.

Any bios modifications? Were you running optimized defaults after installing the modified firmware? Any other tips etc. that I should know about?

TIA

kk

@knew know: no switches on install. only thing i disabled in bios is firewire and the old stuff like serial and parallel ports since i don't need them.

@starblob: I'm running vista business sp1 on the same machine, no problems for me so far.

works like a charm...

thank you so much for sharing this, my mb is MSI G33M.

im using kalliway 10.5.2 efi8 iso...

Ok, so here's where I'm at... I have now tried 3 different releases and I have problems with each one. I'm running Winxp on disk0s1 and installing osx to disk0s2. Here's my explanation..

Kalyway 10.5.1

Installs fine, but on reboot to setup profile it hangs with a black screen and flashing cursor. Darwin does not load. I then proceed to boot with dvd in drive and use "cpus=1 rd=disk0s2" which gets me to the setup and into osx without problem. Onboard nic works fine, usb ports work properly etc...

Kalyway 10.5.2

Installs fine, darwin loads, but on reboot I get "using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" error. I can then proceed to boot with dvd in drive using "cpus=1 rd=disk0s2" which again, gets me into the setup and into osx. Onboard nic works fine, but USB ports act strange. I can plug a usb hard drive or flash drive but I get nothing on the desktop. When I look at "about this mac" and check the hardware, it shows that I indeed have these devices plugged in, but I can't access them. My usb mouse/keyboard work fine though. Strange.... Another problem, is with this configuration, if I boot into winxp using darwin, it hangs right before the profile selection screen.... I can still move my mouse, but it never gets past the blue screen with windows xp logo in the center.

Leo4allv3 - 10.5.2

Installs fine, darwin loads. I still get the "using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" error, but again I can get in using rd=disk0s2. Oddly enough, my nic does not work, and usb is giving me problems just like on 10.5.2. I tried installing the nic kexts (realtek 8111b is my nic) and can't get it working. I tried using darwin to boot into winxp and it works fine with leo4allv3.I have no idea what exactly is going on with the usb in 10.5.2.

Anyone else having this problem or more importantly has fixed it? Anyone fix the "using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" error? In leo4all I chose to delete all firewire kexts and I still have the problem. My system specs and bios settings are a few posts up, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

kk

I Had the same Problem with usb in 10.5.2.

Update to 10.5.3 fixed it, usb acts correctly now (Install kalyway 10.5.1 -> update 10.5.2 by kaliway -> update 10.5.3 by kalyway)

For the "buffer headers" error, it's been a while since i haven't encoutered it ... Try the bios configuration for P35-Neo F a few posts ago.

Well I just found this thread "http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95789&mode=linear" which should help me with the usb issue. I guess now my main concern is the "using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" error. Anyone else running an MSI Neo2 FR (no firewire ports) and has got it past this line?

Thanks,

kk

Thanks lioudow,

Yea, I think that updating to kalyway 10.5.3 will probably solve the issue as the usb and kernel kexts will probably match up like the fix in the post that I linked to above. I'm actually running those exact bios settings and still receive the error. Anything specific setting in the bios that you know of that would cause the error? If so, then I can try different things pertaining to that specific setting.

Thanks.

for anyone here who used the leo4allv3 disc...

what options did you choose?

because ive just installed it and IDE WORKS!

but now i have no sata...arrrrgghhhhh

I installed my Neo2-FR with Leo4all, but I couldn't get it working properly with my IDE rom drive, so I used an SATA one instead and everything worked great. I didn't get the common "waiting for root device" problem, the disc just would stop reading at some point through the installation (possibly a bad DVD reader). You should try using the ICH9 kexts that come in the leo4all config. That should hopefully resolve your SATA problems. Oddly enough though, the last time I installed it, I completely forgot to check off the ICH9 and everything worked flawlessly. Take a look at my guide at ... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109564. It's specific to Leo4allv3 users, and details what I did to get it working on my system.

Good Luck,

That's great. Mine doesn't wake up from sleep. What selections did you make in the Leo4all config? Are you using a Neo2? Running 10.5.3 JaS update?

Thanks,

kk

Is your ide rom set to master or slave? Didn't managed to get it to work with a sata ide rom combo yet but works fine on all ide.

Edit : did a quick test to set ide rom to master and it booted fine all the way into the installation screen.

Oh you got it working. Ignore my pm reply then.

Well, it's great to hear news about the owners of the msi p35 platinum getting their systems working so far. Sadly, I can't get mine to work with any of the available flavors. I tried with kalyway 10.5.2 and leo4all v3 with no luck. I keep getting the still waiting for root device error and I tried every chain of commands available on these forums (I think). I've updated the BIOS with the one found in the wiki... that guy said he got this motherboard to work with that BIOS, but of course he didn't say the config he used.

Well guys, I'm asking for your help here. :D Already tried plugging my dvdrw ide device to my computer via an usb enclosure. Same errors. Already tried with the BIOS configuration posted here also. No luck.

So... anybody got the MSI P35 NEO-F to work yet?

thanks for your time reading this... looking forward for your help.

Hi,

I already tried to install OSX to:

MSI P35 Neo

MSI P35 Platinum

MSI G33M

There seems to be an issue with the ACPI implementation of these newer MSI motherboards (I already installed OSX86 in a MSI P965 Platinum motherboard without issues). None of the OSX86 releases work (the computers just reboot a few seconds after booting).

The only thing that kinda works is JaS 10.4.8 in safe mode (useless) and with only one CPU core, with these switches:

-cpus=1 -x

This is not a SATA issue.

This is not a GPU issue.

This is not a general chipset issue (P35 and G33 motherboards from other vendors work, i.e. Asus and Gigabyte)

This is about something weird happening with the ACPI implementation. Researching about this problem, I found that this same strange thing is happening with some notebooks.

Anyone has any information about fixing this problem?

Thank you!

Just try Leo4all v3. This version works fine in the MSI p35/g33.
