Can i get a screenshot to compare or something?

Here's a screenshot of the menu drop down overlay.... i dont have 9a528d to compare to, cos i wiped my drive to put leopard inside... but, i think its easy to find one...

And did u guys notice, the ram usage seems to be way way way higher than Tiger with jus basic use... base ram use 350mb, the when i jus used safari and adium, it jumps to 800mb.... and its still climbing steadily... seems like ram usage optimisation is still damn right out..
I think the RAM usage is higher due to more aggressive caching, which should account for some of the speed boost we see here.

A subsequent launch of Photoshop CS3 happens in a few seconds. ;)

Mail launches instantaneously

Mail does that even if it is the first boot and its not cached. It has really picked up speed.

Oh thank God Steve. ;)

it might not be the aggressive caching.... after running my mbp for 13hrs non stop on 9a559, the ram usage hit 1.8Gb, and my VM was used extensively... i dun believe that was caching... i think its more like heavy memory leak...

That can happen. It also depends on which VM machine and application you are using. I have had VMware personally take 400 MB RAM with no guest OS' loaded. That is not Mac OS X's problem ;)

With what I'm hearing about RAM and performance, I'm conflicted on whether 9a559 will run well on my 2.0 GHz iMac G5 w/1.5GB of RAM. Any thoughts?

It will run very well. Actually the computer that has seen the most speed increase is not my powerhouse Macbook Pro, but my poor little PowerBook G4 12". This thing is very fast. I timed the boot, and it is just under 35 seconds. That is fast for a G4 laptop. Your iMac should run Leopard just fine. ;)

Yay! Heck, maybe it'll salvage my 1GHz PowerBook G4

ou. :D And for UNIX geeks.

My bash shows me the following:

Darwin hakierowo.pl 9.0.0b5 Darwin Kernel Version 9.0.0b5: Sat Aug 18 20:09:02 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1182~3/RELEASE_I386 i386

This is the result of: uname -a

Of course OS the same as is in my signature. ;)

Hey guys and gals!

You lot are doing a great job of keeping us leopardless in the know, thanks for that!

I was wondering if anyone has seen the new developer tools, and if there are any neat little apps which help you code using Core Animation? (Like the way they have Core Image Funhouse and Core Audio Tools).

Hell, has anyone seen any other instances in this build of Core Animation apart from Spaces and Time Machine? Would love some more screen caps!

Thanks a million!

I'm pretty sure Finder's CoverFlow view uses Core Animation, making it 1000x smoother than CoverFlow in iTunes :)

for us 9a599 users, the uname -a gives:

Darwin AKillTorture.local 9.0.0b5 Darwin Kernel Version 9.0.0b5: Tue Sep 18 20:47:38 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1207~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

That's exactly a month after the other one.

Release date Oct 18? :)

Ok, I'm an idiot, shoot me. :D

Hey everyone.. Very happy day for us all. Anyway, i'm really interested in whether in the new build A2DP bluetooth stack is implemented (a.k.a. wireless stereo over bluetooth). I think that this can be seen when you try to discover a new device and the radio button dialog appears with the options : "Phone, PDA, Mouse, Keyboard.. etc", there should be something like Headphones or A2DP or... multimedia whatever..

So ? could someone provide a screenshot of that dialog?
