osxfan156
Will you need to pay to upgrade (legally) to leopard when it comes out or not? I am currently on Mac OS X 10.4.9 on a macbook pro.
rollcage
Yes, you will have to pay for an upgrade. It will probably stay around what Tiger is now. The price for Tiger is $129 for a single license, if you have more than one computer they have "family pack" that includes 5 licenses for $199. Pentad
I don't really mind paying for the upgrade. Unlike Microsoft, Apple is actually innovating and I want to vote with my $$$ for Apple. You know, $99 or whatever it will be (lower for students) isn't that bad of a deal compared to Vista Ultimate. Look at it this way, pirate Vista, buy Leopard, and you STILL save money!! ;-) -P
Guest:
You can just ask a friend who has a copy and you can install it. There most likely won't be any CD Keys or the like so getting it off of those torrent websites and installing it should give you the "complete" leopard, with no drawbacks compared to someone who actually dished out the cash. mr.manatane
sure as hell you'll pay! Welcome to the world of Mac. Yes, because in the world of Windows, it's surely free ... Tried
nice one mr.manatane ... yea if you love the Mac OS, and if you can afford it (as a student or not), pay for it. Yes, it's people like Guest that should be shot out of a cannon into the sun.. No offense to anybody but the continuious threads about leopard leaks, where to download them from, and statements like "i don't plan on paying for it, (even though the developers deserve the money for their hard work)" just annoys me. This forum has turned into a good group of good programmers from what i've read into nothing more than where can i download the latest build. t3mur
With my knowledge of minimum 32 ways of getting leopard, i will still go out and buy it. (Apple FREAK!)
Pentad
With my knowledge of minimum 32 ways of getting leopard, i will still go out and buy it. I'm with T3mur. I'm willing to put my money on something that has a fair price for a great product. Now, I wouldn't mind getting a gold copy before my original arrives but without a doubt I plan on paying for my copy. Apple isn't perfect but I think they do a good job and deserve to be paid for their work. When I read complaints from people about paying for Leopard I'm really surprised. Sheesh, its only around $100, look at how much Vista Ultimate is! -P
Guest:
What consolation said. I guess most of the people on these forums should be put in a cannon and shot out into the sun. And if you've ever illegally downloaded a music file, application or the like, than you too should be put in a cannon and shot out into the sun soup4you2. Unless you really "need" those animated backgrounds and nifty speech controll. M$ is also innovating. Perhaps not the way some ppl like it but (just as Apple) M$ also copies from others and improves upon. In that respect it just the pot versus the kettle. Nonetheless it appears that Apple charges much less for their OS but has limited choices (which isn't necesarily a bad thing). Ofcourse if 10.4 serves your needs well then there's no "need" to upgrade at all. There are still ppl using 10.3 or even 10.2 on some older Apple kit. In my own case I intent to stick to 10.4.7 as that serves me well (and I don't like the fact that you can't revert to a previous version if something doesn't suit you in the updated 10.4-series). The saying "Don't fix it if it ain't broke." is real valued one ;-) Also these forums are indeed a weird place to complain about these things. As someone mentioned before: What's your HackIntosh running today ;-) EPDM
mr.manatane
Hackintosh is not the same thing dude, you can NOT run legally Leopard on it even if you buy it.
sandmanfvrga
Well duh you have to pay, unless you download it on the net for your Mac or wait till the geeks crack it for Hackintosh. My question is, IS IT WORTH IT? I don't now.

Rez.
This site really confuses me sometimes. Is it still a site for computer nerds to convene and discuss running OS X on everday Hardware? Or has it become another mindless Mac enthusiast playground? Anyway, I'm sure some of you will be pleased to know that I've already reserved my copy of Leopard at this quaint little Swedish site, Their prices are quite reasonable ...
