i have a dual boot with windows XP and kalyway leopard on the same hdd.

1) I formatted the hdd with the kalyway disk utility, partitioned 15 GB for kalyway, 138 for XP.

2) I formatted both as a MBR, and the windows as a FAT32 partition, and kalyway and Mac OS Extended (Journeled)

3) I quit disk utillity and installed XP on the FAT32, which i converted to NTFS.

4) After the XP installation, and a few updates, I installed kalyway on the other partition.

5) One kalyway was loaded, i couldn't boot into XP, since that partition wasn't active anymore, the kalyway was, so I restarted the system with a GParted Live CD.

6) Under GParted, I went to the XP partition, and under flags, i checked "boot".

7) Then I booted into XP, and i copied this line into boot.ini, "C:\chain0="Mac OS X86"

8) Then I copied the "CHAIN0" file off the kalyway disk, and into the C: drive.

9) Now I have the option to boot into Mac OSX or XP, using the XP bootloader, and Darwin.

so far, kalyway has been working great, except for a few setbacks which I plan to fix up

Hi,I have 2 Hdd in Acer T180-X42 AMD.

(a). WD IDE 250 Gb in 4 Partitions

(i). XP 60Gb

(ii). Vista 32 100Gb

(iii). OSX 10.5.2 50Gb

(iv). FAT32 31Gb

(B). HT SATA 250 Gb also in 4 Partitions

(i). Part 1 - NTFS (mostly for DivX videoclips from Stage6)

(ii). Part 2 - NTFS (mostly AVI's from Veoh)

(iii). Part 3 - Free

(iv). Part 4 - FAT32 (for OSX user files)

I like to install JaS 10.4.9 Tiger to :

(a)(iv) or

(B)(iii)/(iv).

Upon checking during OSX Disk Util I found the Tiger/Leopard DVD detects good and no errors whatsoever on the hdd.

Why do I need 10.4.9? - It's the cube thingy ....

It has been 3 weeks attempting to install 2 OSX's (Tiger and Leopard) but only one sucessfull in my Acer AMD PC.Does OSX support multi OSX boot on multi drive etc?Meaning that I can use Tiger and Leopard in one PC.rolleyes.gif Or do I understand differently?

Thanks,

This worked really well for me. Only problem was the Leopard partition was too small to load many apps with. Not sure if there is a way to install and run mac programs through the shared partition or not. I assumed I would be able to but I couldn't figure it out so maybe I assumed wrong. I was hoping to be able to install both my Vista and Leopard applications and run them from the shared part. Is that not possible? I couldn't figure it out, so I reinstalled and followed your guide making a bigger leopard partition this time and all works fine. Just was curious if I missed something on the shared partition thing.

Triple boot on an HP Pavilion dv2617us: Vista, Ubuntu, and OS X. I installed vista first, then OS X, then Ubunutu. Grub works great; Ubuntu sets it up for you right away though you do need to add OS X to the list. All runs smoothly.

Hi...

Here is my story... success or not... Its being tested.

I have dual booted my R52 Thinkpad with Ubuntu 8.04 and Leopard 10.5.1 (the update for 10.5.2 is being downloaded as I write this)

I used the MBR option instead of GUID while installing the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD. This screwed up the grub of course but that was not a problem. I always have Ubuntu Live CD handy. So I booted up with the Live CD fired the Terminal went for the grub command.

My machine specs may also interest a few... so here they are

Intel Centrino Processor 1.73 GHz L2 cache 2MB

2 GB DDR2 RAM

ATI Radeon X300 Graphics card with 32 MB memory

60 GB HDD

Intel 2200 Pro Wireless

Broadcom Ethernet

Now what doesn't work

Touchpad partially works... no tapping scrolling. Enabling this from system preferences kills my trackpoint which is not acceptable to me

Successful Vista ultimate/ Leo boot:

Vista on partition 1, Leo on 2, all using vista's built in partitioner.

In cmd, I typed diskpart, set partition 2 active, rebooted of leo dvd, installed, and it was a OOB perfect dual boot! Not even a "corrupt" winlogon.exe for vista boot!

If you have two separate physical hard disks, then you don't have to worry about which OS you install first, since the operating system will install the boot manager to one disk.

I current have 4 hard drives in mine and Vista and OS X are on different disks. I dualboot using a very intuitive bootloader from Hiren's Boot CD. But you have to becareful though. Be aware of the disk numbers and names that your BIOS gives to the disks, because that can seriously cause you headaches.

I have (at last!!!) a dual boot system: Asus P5B (vanilla) + Intel Core2Duo 2.00 Ghz + 3Gb RAM + 2xSATA HDD + SATA DVD-reader/writer.

Leo4allv3 installed on my first SATA HDD's first partition/MBR and SUSE10.3 Linux distro on the second partition of the same drive.

The bootloader I use is GRUB from my SUSE distro, which is a normal GRUB without any special features like EFI support patch. As I installed into MBR partition, such special features aren't needed. And I used MBR, because EFI GPT didn't work out for me -- it wouldn't even launch the Darwin bootloader.

The Leopard entry in GRUB's /boot/grub/menu.lst file looks like this:

rootnoverify (hd0,0) ## option to be used when root is on the partition type unknown to GRUB

makeactive ## self-explanatory, isn't it?

chainloader (hd0,1)/boot/chain0 ## the same procedure they recommend with Windows XP!

Here, the last string "chainloader (hd0,1)/boot/chain0" tells GRUB where to find the chainloader binary. As can be seen, it is located on my Linux partition in the /boot directory, where I just copied it from the installation DVD.

The key factor why no other configuration works is, that GRUB cannot access HFS+ partition, which you will see if you try to put "root (hd0,0)" instead of "rootnoverify". Accordingly, if you use "chainloader +1" , it will give you "HFS+ error" message -- as it kept giving to me until I modified my configuration like above.

Another thing I noticed with Leopard is, that it would only boot from a HD, which is physically the 1st hard drive. Otherwise the boot process would freeze with the message "still waiting for root device" -- and it will faithfully wait forever.

(There may be many philosophycal  doctrines trying to explain why this happens; I guess kernel is accessing BIOS in order to find out which HDD is 1st and boot only from such one.)

Aw'right! This is how it works for me anyway. The system boots/halts quick like lightning, works quick as well. When I have my sound ADI1988A working, my happiness will be complete. And it will work one day -- as it does work in Solaris/FreeBSD/Linux and any other OS.

PS: as there are questions here as to what was installed first, here is how I did it:

During the Leo4allv3 installation I let the disk utility format the whole HDD into HFS+ type of partition (MBR) and then divided it into 2 primary partitions. Installed Leopard into the 1st one. Later I just deleted the second one with GNU parted utility and created a Linux ext3 partition, where I copied my existing SUSE10.3 installation from the other HDD (it started failing! :hysterical: ).

Then I installed the GRUB from the resulting Linux installation into MBR, using Knoppix LiveCD(Ubuntu/Xubuntu CD will work fine as well) and using its GRUB command-line shell like this:

grub>root (hd0,1)

grub>setup (hd0)

Which installed my Linux GRUB into MBR. Then I just added the entry mentioned above to my /boot/grub/menu.lst file -- the only thing one really needs to change.

From my experience with multiboot systems, such configuration would also work if you put 3 or 4 OS's on the same drive. The most difficult trick was to make GRUB boot MacOSX. All the other systems are easily booted with the chainloader option.

i followed many different threads ideas but and all i did was, install zeporith's AMD.EFI.REV2 on a 70gb partition in the same disk as my windows xp and under customise chose dual boot option on the leopard disk and added my drivers from that list (none of which worked), so yeah wouldnt boot, so i copyed boot.efi info my C:\ folder and added the line

C:\boot.efi="Mac OSX Leopard"

to the end of my boot.ini, and it works fine!, now ive got to get my internet, sound and GFX drivers working :/

I have a question. Especcially it addressed to Dell Inspiron 1520/with 8600GT owners. I have such notebook. OS - MS Vista was not reinstalled or so since buying. I don't want to delete it at this time. But want to install MacOS and use MultiBoot feature.

I have already downloaded Kalyway 10.5.2. I planned to use Acronis OS Selector (this is its official name). But didn't know how to use with my notebook. My comp have a lot of partititions. I don't want to delete them by the time. Will it be OK, if I make Acronis Boot partition not in the very begining of the disk? Or is there any other ways, may be with out Acronis? Please, help me!

PS. As an offtopic: Is Dell a good for Kalyway 10.5.2 or it will be better to use another realise?

Thanks a lot anyway!

Ooo, first post!

I tried Pyros03's method, and for some really bizarre reason, doing it that way caused hibernate to fail for me due to the Intel 945GM graphics on my Inspiron 6400. It would start going into hibernate, screen would blank, then it would bounce back out into the desktop again.

However, tried doing the install in reverse, doing Vista first, then OSX on a second partition, then using easyBCD to set up the link from vistas bootloader into OSX, and it works a treat!

Thanks all!

I followed the most part of the tutorial you seem to used.

Installed XP on a 30GB FAT32 partition (from a 120GB HDD)

Then, on windows command prompt:

diskpart

select disk 0

list partition

create partition primary id=af (to create a partition with the remaining space)

list partition (to check)

select partition 2 (the new partition I created)

active (to set as the active partition)

And then I installed Kalyway 10.5.1, on the second partition. Non-journaled.

When choosing the components to install, I selected the bootloader for MBR.

Installed the system, and Done.

I didn't even touch chain0 or boot.ini.

Now, when I turn on my computer, by default, OS X will boot, but if I press a key, I can choose the other partition, from winXP.

It's working :P

I have a quick Chain0 question:

I am trying to duel Win XP + OSX on 1 HDD; Darwin sees both and works just fine with darwin though i want the chain0 method instead... So i edited the Boot.ini as instructed and made XP the active partition though when i choose Mac OS X from the list it goes to Darwin and loads XP back to the menu... just a biig loop of fail :P

This question has been posted several times though no one has answered it so does anyone know of the solution?

I have a question. I would like to make a bootable OS X Leopard USB drive. I can set my motherboard to boot off USB drive and I want the whole OS to be on that drive. I did this before w/ XP w/ alot of editing of the install disc. I dont know if I would have to do the same to the OS X Kalyway CD or if it would just install onto a USB drive.

If not I can add a partition to my already active 3 partitioned drive. Partition 1 is XP partition 2 is what is left of the drive for programs and files, and Partition 3 Vista. I still have enough free space to just slap another partition on w/o reformatting the drive. I did it before to add the vista partition and it worked fine (thats why its on partition 3). It pulls up in my boot screen which OS I can boot from w/o a problem. However my question is due to how my hard drive is currently set up. Can I just make another partition and install Leopard, and will it show in the list of what I can boot off of along with XP and Vista? I really dont want to have to redo the whole drive as it has so much stuff on it. That was why I was opting for making a bootable USB hard drive so I wouldnt have to do that.

Hi,

I have two HDDs in my case:

on hdd0 I have installed Win XP x64 and then install iATKOS 2.0i on second HDD hdd1.  In my BIOS I choose boot from HDD0 SATA, then I boot in windows xp and add file boot.efi in C:\ and Edit boot.ini with this code

C:\boot.efi="Mac OSX Leopard"

to the end of file.

But when reboot and Win Loader shows me the Dual Boot options Win / Mac OSX, and I choose Mac OSX then loader go to Black Screen with Blinking Cursor on the Left Top Corrner -- I waiting more then 10 mins but nothing happens, my keybord works, nothing of my hardware wasn't hanging...but no succes to boot in MAC OSX.

When I change in my BIOS the boot sequince to HDD1 SATA (where I install Mac OS) the Mac OSX Loader boots default MAC OS, and all works fine, but when I try boot from MAC OS Loader to HDD0 WIN XP lebel -- I have an error no os found or something like that...

If some one have any idea what is the problem with boot from Win XP loader to MAC OSX or vice-versa let me know, pls!

Thanks!

The easiest way to do multi-boot with Vista bootloader:

1. Get EasyBCD and add a new entry for Mac OS Leopard.

2. Get chain0 from /usr/standalone/i386, its a hidden file in Mac drive.

3. Rename chain0 to nst_mac.mbr and put it in C:/NST.

Now you can boot into Mac OS X or Vista, using Vista bootloader.

SUBJECT: DUAL BOOTING with/ GRUB2 (Latest from Debian Sid)

NOTE: READ THOROUGHLY

PLATFORMS: DEBIAN SID LINUX & OS X KALYWAY 10.5.2

HARDWARE: ASUS BAREBONES VINTAGE 2-PH1

DRIVES: 2 SEPARATE DRIVES, 1 320 GB SATA (hd0,1), 1 80GB PATA (hd1,1)

CPU: Pentium D 940

RAM: 4 GB DDR2667Mhz

OBSERVATION: Chainloader is not the solution, Multiboot is your friend

MODULES: hfsplus.mod, boot_v8 from pc_efi_v80

REQUIREMENT: PC-EFI-V8 found on this site must have boot_v8 (56k) file installed under /boot/ of your Linux distribution resulting in /boot/boot_v8 being along-side your initrd images.

SOLUTION: For Debian based distributions.

--------------------------------------------

Debian multi-stage GRUB 2 process requires all other OSs to have their own loading executable script to be added to the GRUB2 update process.

From Ubuntu Forums the following Idea helped:

Create the 11_otheros [naming convention arbitrary but in this case 11_winxp would be a logical choice] filename under /etc/grub.d/ and give it executable privileges.

#! /bin/sh -e

echo "Adding WIndows" >&2

cat << EOF

menuentry "Windows XP"  {

             chainloader (hd0,1)+1

}

EOF

-------------

PROBLEM: Doesn't work for GRUB 2 and MULTIBOOT aware Operating Systems like OS X.

SOLUTION:

#! /bin/sh -e

echo "Adding OS X Leopard" >&2

cat << EOF

menuentry "OS X 10.5"  {

             multiboot (hd0,1)/boot/boot_v8

             module (hd0,1)/boot/grub/hfsplus.mod

}

EOF

$ sudo chmod +x 11_osx

$ sudo update-grub2

-------------------------------------------------

OBSERVATION: (hd0,1) comes from the fact that Debian houses the GRUB2 environment and the set root value is already set for your Linux Kernels. I'm running Vserver and non Vserver kernels within a Pentium D 940 Processor.

You don't need to pass the following initial command:

set root = (hd0,1) as it is already set earlier in the Grub2 boot loader process.

--------------------------------------------------

Reboot your system and from the advice given in the PC-EFI zip archive you select your newly listed OS X 10.5 menu item.

From there you quickly read the command that asks you to then choose whether your drive 80 + (n) is the drive upon which you have your previously installed Kaylway DVD installed 10.5.2 Leopard on.

Since I have only a second drive my drive choice is: 81

If I had 4 drives my drive choice would be 83 (80 + 3)

-------------

FINAL NOTE: iATKOS v4i - 10.5.4 is my next version to test against GRUB2.

FINAL NOTE UPDATE: iATKOS v4i - 10.5.4 works flawless against GRUB2.

I can boot into Mac OS X or Vista, using Vista bootloader and EasyBCD ver.1.72.

I refer to SageV2 post #323 is very helpfull for me.

My laptop works Pre-install Vista.

1) Use Acronis True Image. Backup Vista DiskImage and MBR.

2) Install Kalyway 10.5.2(format harddisk).

I used disk utility then created 2 partition 1st is HFS+ and 2nd is FAT32, select option MBR.

3) Boot up kalyway 10.5.2 and copy chain0(hidden file) to USB memory stick

cp /usr/standalone/i386/chain0 /Volumes/usbstick/.

4) Use Acronis True Image. Restore Vista DiskImage to 2nd Partition and MBR.

5) Boot Vista and Install EasyBCD.

6) Use EasyBCD and add a new entry for Mac OS Leopard.

7) Rename chain0 to nst_mac.mbr and put it in C:/NST.

8) After reboot, I was able to select Mac OS X or Vista Using Vista bootloader.
