Guys, don't you know why my Intel PRO 2200BG is recognized as "Third party card"? Also when I'm trying to connect to our network - there's no networks in range.

Tried to set use_10_4_8 to 1 and p_disable to 0 - the same result.

Well, I'm kinda lost also now: anybody can tell me what versions of kexts are needed for the iwi kext?

I'm on 10.4.8 B9 Semthex and have a Centrino with 2200BG...

Here's what I get in System Profiler - System Extensions:

iwi2200:

Version: 1.0.0d1

Last Modified: 29/01/07 20:18

Get Info String: Copyright Joel Thomas 2005

Location: /System/Library/Extensions/iwi2200.kext

kext Version: 1.0.0d1

Load Address: 0x36e3d000

Valid: Yes

Authentic: Yes

Dependencies: Incomplete

Dependency Errors:

com.apple.iokit.IO80211Family: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kernel.iokit: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kpi.bsd: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kpi.iokit: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kpi.libkern: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kpi.mach: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.kpi.unsupported: No valid version of this dependency can be found

Integrity: Unknown

Here are the versions of kexts I'm using:

IO80211Family.kext 1.3

IONetworkingFamily.kext 1.5.0

IOPCIFamily.kext 2.1

Another thing: whatever I try my IPW2200BG is always being listed as en2 (so not en1) when entering IFCONFIG in Terminal: does it NEED to be en1 or is this supposed to be working with en2 as well? If it needs to be "en1": how can this be changed???

What's wrong???

Thx for your help!

Take care,

Tek_No

Hi,

I got the following information under AirPort Card Information:

Wireless Card Type: Third Party Wireless Card

Current Wireless Network: AirPort is currently turned off

How do I turn it on?

don't mind the airport cpanel in osx. rather check out what 'ifconfig' says

Congratulations guys! A couple of questions:

I'd like to submit my log files. What's the best way of getting at these?

I managed to destroy my OSX installation (by setting p_disable to 1). I've read about booting into "single user mode" to repair things, but don't know how? Any advice would be apperciated!

Yes - I am a newbie to all this, but am learning slowly!

Ok sorted out single user mode (press F8 when it says starting Darwin, then do the -s stuff...)

How do I get at my log files now?

Hi folks. Ok I got at the log files with:

sudo ioreg > ioreg.txt

sudo dmesg > dmesg.txt

both files are attached. I hope they are helpful!

Also, I have some strange behaviour. If I load the kext manually with kextload, everything works fine - my card is detected as an Airport device and I can get on the internet. If I reboot however, and the kext is loaded automatically, it results in kernel panic, and I have to reboot into single user mode to repair it each time!

Best of luck, and congrulations on the wonderful work. Getting there!!

dmesg.txt

ioreg.txt

:2cents:

working on my ibm thinkpad x32!

using:

<key>p_disable</key>

<integer>0</integer>

<key>use_10_4_8</key>

<integer>1</integer>

10.4.8/b9

can only (blindly) manually associate with open network. no browsing wlans etc.

however, mac address filtering on open networks works.

awesome! looking forward to encryption support. great job!!!! wow!@

well, i guess so far for ppl who are worried about having open networks at home, the best you can do is to do mac address filtering... though that is not very safe at all, but it is a layer of deterent for war driving ppl....

edit: My system crashed and panicked again, second time in two days since i started using this new driver... seems to be a random crash... but seems to be after a prolonged use of about 30 minutes or more....

Good to see progress!

jalavoui, Im running my 3945 under linux, tell me which logs exactly you would like to see. I will post whatever I can find currently regarding the 3945 within a few minutes.

EDIT I will wait to see what you need exactly since the /var/log/messages does not prove very useful, nor does dmesg. I will try and get something out of ipw3945d --debug=0x?????? --log-file=/var/log/ipw3945.log , so far i get nothing into that file.
